LGR4GM Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Still lives in the area. Listening to Rivet talk... would like him as defensive coach  He sounds intelligent and wise about how working hard in the offseason is important. Seriously the more I listen to Rivet the more I want him as a coach.

Seriously the more I listen to Rivet the more I want him as a coach. I dunno. I'm ready for the Sabres to hire coaches that don't require on the job training.
X. Benedict Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 I dunno. I'm ready for the Sabres to hire coaches that don't require on the job training. Al Arbour. He's tan, rested and ready.
Stoner Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 I dunno. I'm ready for the Sabres to hire coaches that don't require on the job training. What? Not a fan of one of the least experienced coaching staffs in the league? I thought it was a Lindy thing, but if it carries over to Ran, I'm going to start to wonder.

I thought it was a Lindy thing, but if it carries over to Ran, I'm going to start to wonder. Like I said. It seems like they're just not that interested in winning. Strange innit ?
Sabre Dance Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Like I said. It seems like they're just not that interested in winning. Strange innit ? I think the Sabres have decided that next season, they should free-fall to the bottom of the standings, then grab a blue-chip high first round pick (or two). That player will be the foundation on which the Cup-contending team will be built. OR, they don't care anymore, as long as there are lots of fannies in the seats at FNC. Your guess is as good as mine.....
chileanseabass Posted June 17, 2013 Report Posted June 17, 2013 What'll be interesting to see in all of this (after the coaching staff is finally decided) is what happens in Rochester. There's much speculation that Rolston will bring his BFF Chadd Cassidy along, leaving Chris Taylor as the only person returning in Rochester. Rolston was billed as the "professor" for Sabres University, so do they try to find someone with a similar pedigree or just say "aww, f--- it," and give Taylor the job? Just found this from Elliotte Friedman... 29. I mentioned a few weeks ago that Buffalo might be interested in Manchester Monarchs head coach Mark Morris for an assistant's job since he and Sabres head coach Ron Rolston have a connection. It appears Morris will stay in the AHL, so here's another possibility: Kurt Kleinendorst. He led the Binghamton Senators to the 2011 Calder Cup and just resigned as head coach at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

IKnowPhysics Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 http://www.wgr550.co...-assis/16621496 So interestingly Rolston still interviewing guys. I'm fine with that. I understand the reasons behind Regier (re-)hiring Rolston right away, but I didn't see the need for Rolston to hire his guys within "a week or so" as originally stated. Seem like every playoff loss made some new candidates available.
spndnchz Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Todd Reirden would be nice. Doubt he wants to leave the Pens. Mike Sullivan?
IKnowPhysics Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 It's possible, even likely, that we've been waiting for certain teams to exit the playoffs to see about particular coaches' availability.
TrueBlueGED Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 It's possible, even likely, that we've been waiting for certain teams to exit the playoffs to see about particular coaches' availability. In all honesty, what reason would an assistant from a Cup team have to leave to be an assistant for a team that missed the playoffs? I don't know how often assistants move around, but my assumption is it would be easier to launch a head coaching career from a winning team.

Probably unlikely, but we could pay more, offer more/different responsibilities, different company atmosphere, maybe the guy's a homer, etc. There's reasons to change, but pulling personnel from a cup team is unlikely. I was referring to personnel that may have exited in conference finals, conference semi finals, etc and probably just finished up end-of-season interviews- particularly guys that were under coaches that were fired.
X. Benedict Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Todd Reirden would be nice. Doubt he wants to leave the Pens. Mike Sullivan? I'd be happy with Sullivan. Interestingly enough, I think Sullivan coached Brian Rolston, Ron's brother IIRC back in Boston. Had to check, he did.
Marvelo Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 I think Scott Allen, would be ideal -- he ran the Isles special teams and forwards' stuff until Capuano made all his staff scapegoats last summer.
That Aud Smell Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 *bump* Is the team just waiting until after the draft? I seemed to recall there being a suggestion that the process would move forward quickly, back when the hiring was announced in early May.
Kristian Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 You know what. It would be real nice if the Sabres hired people who didn't feel threatened by assistants. At the G.M. position as well as the coaching position. All this talk of guys hiring guys who they don't feel threatened by is odd. If you're good at your job and secure in your abilities it would seem you'd be more capable to get the job done. The thought that guys that work for the Sabres fill their boots with piss every time someone that may be more capable walks into the room is disturbing. I've said it before - Yes men usually hire yes men.
LGR4GM Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 I've said it before - Yes men usually hire yes men. Rolston doesn't strike me as a yes man. Also I think he is taking his time because he has some type of specific coaching style in mind.
IKnowPhysics Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 And I think they were waiting for potential candidates to become available.
Doohicksie Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 So are we still assistant coach-less? I really expected some coaching hires before the draft. Now I'm wondering why I thought that.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 So are we still assistant coach-less? I really expected some coaching hires before the draft. Now I'm wondering why I thought that. Rolston talked about it yesterday on WGR before the draft: http://audio.wgr550.com/a/77370340/6-30-paul-hamilton-pre-draft-interview-with-ron-rolston.htm
spndnchz Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 So are we still assistant coach-less? I really expected some coaching hires before the draft. Now I'm wondering why I thought that. He said he'd rap it up this week.
Stoner Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 He said he'd rap it up this week. The Rolston Rap. Tell me there's snorting in it.
Taro T Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 I dunno. I'm ready for the Sabres to hire coaches that don't require on the job training. And this is where having TP as the owner was supposed to pay dividends. Having an owner with more money than he knows what to do with and wanting desperately to win a multiple SCs should enable the Sabres to bring in a strong, experienced coaching staff. Based on where the team stands - planning to move forward with younger players, a case can be made that a coach with a strong 'development' background is the correct choice. But, with that, they should be looking to give him the best tools to allow him to be successful. Hopefully they do.
