IKnowPhysics Posted May 22, 2013 Author Report Posted May 22, 2013 Doesn't mean the Sabres were part of that mix of course. John Vogl @BuffNewsVogl At Phil Housley's intro news conference in Nashville, he says he had other offers on table to be assistant coach, but Preds were great fit Good tidbit. Probably why we haven't heard anything from the Sabres yet. Also Vigneault is about to get cut loose. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=423778
Stoner Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Surely he'll want to come to Hockey Heaven and be associate coach and teach Rolston a thing or two. Can't hurt to ask.
26CornerBlitz Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 @BuffNewsVogl Reading between lines of this story, rumored Sabres assistant coach candidate Mark Morris is ready for a change ... http://www.unionleader.com/article/20130507/SPORTS0702/130509408/1003/sports …
IKnowPhysics Posted May 29, 2013 Author Report Posted May 29, 2013 So now that Vignaeultfarfj and Tartersauce have been fired, while I don't expect (or want) to bring them aboard, they might have assistant coaches that are looking for jobs. Anyone we should cherry pick? Again, not recommending, but Mike Sullivan is probably available. http://www.nhl.com/i...ge.htm?id=26142

He's got the track record. Rick Bowness? He has miles of coaching experience.

Needless to say I think he was good at one of those and not so good at the other.
nobody Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Sullivan had dual duties with the Rags, defense and PP. Needless to say I think he was good at one of those and not so good at the other. Why do the D coaches also coach the PP while the O coach also coaches the PK? Why not the PK with the D coach? I haven't paid too much attention to see if this is standard or just a quirky thing that Lindy, Torts and others might do.
BetterDays06 Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 You would think the Sabres would want to hire their assistant coaches soon and get them involved in the draft. Any word on a date when we might hear??
chileanseabass Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 You would think the Sabres would want to hire their assistant coaches soon and get them involved in the draft. Any word on a date when we might hear?? I doubt they want them involved in the draft. Face it, most of the kids they draft won't even see the assistant coaches except maybe at a prospect camp. They'll probably be working for another team by the time the draftees eventually make it to the NHL, if at all.
bunomatic Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 You know what. It would be real nice if the Sabres hired people who didn't feel threatened by assistants. At the G.M. position as well as the coaching position. All this talk of guys hiring guys who they don't feel threatened by is odd. If you're good at your job and secure in your abilities it would seem you'd be more capable to get the job done. The thought that guys that work for the Sabres fill their boots with piss every time someone that may be more capable walks into the room is disturbing.
dudacek Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 You mean Ronnie's new helpers won't be Vigneault and Torterella?
bunomatic Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 You mean Ronnie's new helpers won't be Vigneault and Torterella? That makes a lot of sense. Anyways. Someone else mentioned that the final 4 teams all had asst. coaches with previous head coaching experience. Seems to be working. Had Regier waited to hire he could have had an experienced coach or two.
IKnowPhysics Posted June 1, 2013 Author Report Posted June 1, 2013 Word around the campfire is that Rick Bowness and Newell Brown, both former Canucks assistants with long resumes, are attracting attention from teams.
dudacek Posted June 1, 2013 Report Posted June 1, 2013 I don't know enough about the assistant coaching market to name names, but I know my first priority is finding a guy to work with Tyler Myers. Number two is fixing that god- awful power play. How a PP that has Ehrhoff and Vanek at its disposal could be that bad is beyond me.
Trettioåtta Posted June 1, 2013 Report Posted June 1, 2013 I don't know enough about the assistant coaching market to name names, but I know my first priority is finding a guy to work with Tyler Myers. Number two is fixing that god- awful power play. How a PP that has Ehrhoff on Vanek at its disposal could be that bad is beyond me. I have a theory that Vanek makes the PP worse. And I don't mean when he is not there it gets better. But I think having someone so good, but in a passive role means we spend our entire PP trying to find him and if we can't find him nothing happens. Furthermore, if he wasn't there coaches would have to develop better strategies and players would step up and be creative more. Like i said, the reason it is an issue is that Vanek has to wait, whereas Ovi (another PP king) is on the point so can take the shot or it is easy to pass to him. Vanek is normally double marked and given little room to move and the PK tactic is stop them getting it to Vanek Out 2nd PP is rubbish because of lack of talent - poor Coho
spndnchz Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Rick Bowness will be officially named an associate coach of the Lightning today. Former head coach of five NHL teams. Although with a record of 123-289-48-3

LGR4GM Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Anything? It seems we are not doing anything. I haven't seen anything about interviews or nothing. So? are we just going with Rolston as the only coach?
chileanseabass Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Anything? It seems we are not doing anything. I haven't seen anything about interviews or nothing. So? are we just going with Rolston as the only coach? There was some speculation at one point about Rolston teaming up with Jeff Blashill, who is coaching the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL finals. Obviously if he was a candidate he wouldn't be interviewing until after the season is over. But, there is also speculation Blashill could be on the short list in Dallas with Jim Nill the new GM.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Dave Hakstol. Just sayin'. That's the perfect name to add to the franchise..... Is there a coach out there named Billy Schlubcrap?
IKnowPhysics Posted June 10, 2013 Author Report Posted June 10, 2013 Dave Hakstol. Just sayin'. Want to never get rid of Stafford? Hire his coach from UND. :D He could be one of those I'm-staying-in-my-academic-fortress-types like Jim Roque. UND is big on hockey and long on hockey-related money (see also: Ralph Engelstad Arena); Hakstol's last salary (up to'12) was $210k.
