Dammit. Vogl beat me by a minute.

Sacco was assistant for the Av's farm team and got promoted to head coach of the Avalanche when Granato got fired. Sound familiar?

I'm in. Nice player, solid mix of coaching experience....and I do like Ron Rol. OK...let's re-ball this puppy....

So, this guy was a Jack Adams candidate once upon a time.

It would appear that the waiting game was justified (or at least justifiable).

Seems like he was waiting for this guy to get the head coach go-round first then come in and interview here for the Assistant job. From what I've read Joe's a grumpy guy.

Probably a good choice. Like seeing an assistant w/ NHL HC experience being added to the staff.

And one that didn't play hockey for Buffalo.

Who were his top choices? I don't see an issue because assistants weren't hired immediately. Nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes. Between meeting with the staff and the front office, setting a plan for next year, determining what needs to be addressed, and for all we know Rolston might be eyeing somebody who is still in the playoffs. This is the first time Rolston has been in a position to add input as to what needs to be done with the team. Not adding assistants the same week Rolston was announced as coach just doesn't seem like an issue.

Good call! :flirt:

You barely beat me to it.

I know he was, just never thought of him as an assistant coach. More of a babysitter. (That's not a dig, I liked Kevyn)

Him and Ott should get along just fine.

Yeah me too. :) Been beating this drum for awhile.

Okay so there was someone.

Someone from the Buffalo area though.

Okay so there was someone.

Only guy I can think of with Lindy's looooooong tenure.

McCutcheon would be another. I don't think there were more than 5 or 6 assistants in total over the 15 years.

I'll be the first dissenter in terms of who it is - not the fact he is an outsider (that is not relavent to me as there are plenty of former Sabres who have proven themselves as coaches.)

I don't see anything in his head coaching career that stands out to help the Sabres.
