Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Looks like Joe Sacco is coming in. That's a name I respect. Not sure of his coaching abilities, but I won't need a blue pill to get on board.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Sacco is a good choice for the staff. Can't remember whether is Corsi in or out?
spndnchz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Dammit. Vogl beat me by a minute. Sacco was assistant for the Av's farm team and got promoted to head coach of the Avalanche when Granato got fired. Sound familiar?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Sacco is a good choice for the staff. Can't remember whether is Corsi in or out? Corsi will always be in....he shells Darcy's pistachios in the press box....FACT!
shrader Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 A BU guy coaching under a former BC coach. Interesting.
spndnchz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Head coach of USA Hockey team that won Bronze Medal at the World Championships. Was assistant coach in 2009. Interviewed for head coach job in Vancouver.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Head coach of USA Hockey team that won Bronze Medal at the World Championships. Was assistant coach in 2009. Interviewed for head coach job in Vancouver. I'm in. Nice player, solid mix of coaching experience....and I do like Ron Rol. OK...let's re-ball this puppy....
That Aud Smell Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 So, this guy was a Jack Adams candidate once upon a time. It would appear that the waiting game was justified (or at least justifiable).
spndnchz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 So, this guy was a Jack Adams candidate once upon a time. It would appear that the waiting game was justified (or at least justifiable). Seems like he was waiting for this guy to get the head coach go-round first then come in and interview here for the Assistant job. From what I've read Joe's a grumpy guy.
Taro T Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Head coach of USA Hockey team that won Bronze Medal at the World Championships. Was assistant coach in 2009. Interviewed for head coach job in Vancouver. Probably a good choice. Like seeing an assistant w/ NHL HC experience being added to the staff.
spndnchz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Probably a good choice. Like seeing an assistant w/ NHL HC experience being added to the staff. And one that didn't play hockey for Buffalo.
LGR4GM Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 And one that didn't play hockey for Buffalo. Be the first time in how long we have a coach that didn't play here or coach here already.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Be the first time in how long we have a coach that didn't play here or coach here already. Kevyn Adams?
JJFIVEOH Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Who were his top choices? I don't see an issue because assistants weren't hired immediately. Nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes. Between meeting with the staff and the front office, setting a plan for next year, determining what needs to be addressed, and for all we know Rolston might be eyeing somebody who is still in the playoffs. This is the first time Rolston has been in a position to add input as to what needs to be done with the team. Not adding assistants the same week Rolston was announced as coach just doesn't seem like an issue. Good call! :flirt:
26CornerBlitz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 You barely beat me to it. Only guy I can think of with Lindy's looooooong tenure.
That Aud Smell Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 From what I've read Joe's a grumpy guy. Links? I mean, other than that picture that puck daddy loved to tweet.
Taro T Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 And one that didn't play hockey for Buffalo. Like that as well.
spndnchz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 You barely beat me to it. I know he was, just never thought of him as an assistant coach. More of a babysitter. (That's not a dig, I liked Kevyn) Him and Ott should get along just fine.
Stoner Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Probably a good choice. Like seeing an assistant w/ NHL HC experience being added to the staff. Yeah me too. :) Been beating this drum for awhile. Okay so there was someone. Someone from the Buffalo area though.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 @pham1717 Sacco officially named to Rolston's staff @BuffaloSabres Former Jack Adams Award finalist Joe Sacco has been named as an assistant coach on Ron Rolston's staff.
Eleven Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Okay so there was someone. Only guy I can think of with Lindy's looooooong tenure. McCutcheon would be another. I don't think there were more than 5 or 6 assistants in total over the 15 years.
nobody Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I'll be the first dissenter in terms of who it is - not the fact he is an outsider (that is not relavent to me as there are plenty of former Sabres who have proven themselves as coaches.) I don't see anything in his head coaching career that stands out to help the Sabres.
