I know we got a fair amount of 2nd round picks and another 1st rounder for the Pominvile trade. What is the total amount of picks this year and next?

Posted

2012: 1,1,2,3,5,6,7,7

2013: 1,1,2,2,3,4/5,5,5,6,7

2014: 1,2,2,2,3,5,6,7

2015: 1,2,2,3,4,5,6,7

14 picks in the first two rounds in four years.

Reminds me of when Scotty Bowman loaded up on High Picks. Didn't turn out that great. Here's to DR and the Sabres faring better this time around.

Time for me to compare the team to 1983 again. It's been a day or two.

Maybe Regier will take Dudacek's daughter with the Wild's pick and you'll be able to make that comparison again. ;)

Get. Jon. Drouin. That's what all these picks mean to me. Man I'd love to find a way to get Drouin AND Mackinnon. Similar to Vancouver getting both of the Sedin twins. We'd likely have to give up Vanek or pretty much all our picks to get another top three pick, though. I'm hoping for Drouin over Mackinnon purely because we're kind of "loaded" with youth up the middle (Hodgson, Ennis, Grigorenko, Larsson, Catenacci). Could really use a young stud winger (other than Vanek, there are no definite top six wingers on the roster).

I said the same thing if they could somehow land both that would speed up the rebuild quickly. But then again i would mind keeping almost all the picks and load up on offensive players with size, skill and skating ability. You draft skilled offensive players in the system because they are much harder to come by then defenseman. You can always trade for defense later. Just my opinion. This organization lacks alot of quality offensive players in the system and their is no better time in the next couple of years then to load up.

Winning games isn't helping us towards that goal :(

Ennis is a definite top 6 winger. I think Leino is too, but I'm in the minority.

If Ennis didn't have the build of a 14 year old boy he would definitely be top line talent.

Wait now...Angry Ennis made a showing tonight. And, if you go to games, he does lay hits. I think Ennis needs to be put back on the wing to see what kind of talent is there. Hopefully next season we'll see what he can really bring the team after they sort out the center situation, seeing as they have a few now, and may get another over the summer.

Getting them both would make us all forget about D&B

Don't no where to dump this, so I'll dump it here. Direcltly lifted from Wiki

"A total of 49 different players have been selected first. Of those, 38 have been Canadian. Six Americans, three Russians, two Czechs and one Swedish player have also been taken first. Every first overall pick taken between 1968 and 2005 has played in at least 299 NHL games.[3] Three players retired without ever having played an NHL game.

The Montreal Canadiens have had the most first overall picks of any other team, selecting five players first between 1963 and 1980. Five players have come from the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, more than any other team.

Eight players have won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year: Gilbert Perreault, Denis Potvin, Bobby Smith, Dale Hawerchuk, Mario Lemieux, Bryan Berard, Alexander Ovechkin and Patrick Kane. Six have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame: Perreault, Potvin, Guy Lafleur, Hawerchuk, Lemieux and Mats Sundin."

I've always liked Ville. He needs to stay healthy though.

You guys aren't the only Leino supporters. He has 6 points in the 8 the games he has played in this year. Even though he has only played 8 games, Leino finally looks like the guy I had hoped for when Buffalo picked him up. And as you said, Potato, he just needs to stay healthy.

When the playoffs start and we get deeper into them, the impeding increases drastically and is allowed. 163lbs. is much more a detriment then. Just saying.
