Eleven Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 But also naturalised American and played for the US internationally not too long ago I think. I think Pommer either resigns with Minny or takes the fattest deal he can get in UFA. And likely in a warm weather, tax-favourable state. EDIT: my British nephew's ipad autocorrected my American spelling. I think that under the new guidelines, we're supposed to report this or something.
LGR4GM Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I think that under the new guidelines, we're supposed to report this or something. The NSA already knows, he has probably called or emailed his cousin so they know.
Doohicksie Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 What was he supposed to do, deny the captaincy? This place would've been all over him. I know, damned if he did, damned if he didn't. It's not his fault Ruff was out of options yet again. And THIS is the root cause of that unfortunate situation.

26CornerBlitz Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 @mnwild Breaking: Jason Pominville signs 5-year contract extension! Read all about it here on http://Wild.com : http://ow.ly/psMGP #mnwild
LGR4GM Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 $5.6 million per for Pommer. umm yea I posted that? right where your post now appears.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 umm yea I posted that? right where your post now appears. No, that was in the Around the NHL thread.
LGR4GM Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 No, that was in the Around the NHL thread. dammit FOILED AGAIN!
nfreeman Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 I'd be interested to know whether posters here would have wanted the Sabres to keep him at that number. I would not have wanted them to do so.
TrueBlueGED Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 I'd be interested to know whether posters here would have wanted the Sabres to keep him at that number. I would not have wanted them to do so. I absolutely would. He's only making $800k more than Ryane Clowe's corpse.
nfreeman Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 I absolutely would. He's only making $800k more than Ryane Clowe's corpse. To be clear -- if you could wave a magic wand, would you un-do the Pommer trade and sign him to that contract? So he'd still be the captain and the Sabres wouldn't have Zadorov, Larsson, Hackett and a #2 next year? Or are you just saying that you would give him that contract as a UFA? He'll be 31 next month, BTW.

If I was a team that planned on contending in the short term, the latter for sure. While I don't like long-term contracts for forwards in their 30s, if your window of contention is open, you do it (even in decline, a $5.6MM hit should be manageable with cap increases). But as far as the Sabres go, no, I would not want to undo the trade and give him this deal. IMO the team simply isn't close enough to being good enough to sign 31 year olds to long term deals. I'd make an exception to this general rule for Vanek for a variety of reasons, but that's for another thread (and even then, I'm not overly enthusiastic about paying 35+ year old Vanek in the neighborhood of $8MM).
dudacek Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 I'd sign him at that money, but I wouldn't undo the trade.
Eleven Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 There always will be people who doubt him, but he's one of the best two-way forwards in the game.
spndnchz Posted November 3, 2013 Author Report Posted November 3, 2013 Pominville is tied for 4th in the NHL with 9 goals, tied for 1st with 3 game winners. **cough cough**
Robviously Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Pominville is tied for 4th in the NHL with 9 goals, tied for 1st with 3 game winners. **cough cough** "I f***ing hate Pominville. Never did anything for this team." - Guy sitting next to me at a game a couple years ago.
nobody Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Pominville is tied for 4th in the NHL with 9 goals, tied for 1st with 3 game winners. **cough cough** He should fire his agent. Should be making at least $7 mil.
deluca67 Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Pominville is tied for 4th in the NHL with 9 goals, tied for 1st with 3 game winners. **cough cough** Looks like Regier got fleeced in the trade.
TrueBlueGED Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Looks like Regier got fleeced in the trade. The market rate for a first line forward has been a couple picks and decent prospects for awhile now. Explain the fleecing.
dudacek Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Minnesota is going to suck next year. You can't win with Vanek and Pominville as your leaders. #evenscottybowmanlostinbuffalo

PotentPowerPlay22 Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Jason Pominville named the NHL's first star for the week. He has 10 goals already for Minn. this year. Would you still have traded him if you were GM? When does Stafford get his ticket out of town?
Hoss Posted November 4, 2013 Report Posted November 4, 2013 Minnesota is going to suck next year. You can't win with Vanek and Pominville as your leaders. #evenscottybowmanlostinbuffalo We don't know that Vanek is going to Minny. And who is Zach Parise? Heard he is a decent leader. Not sure, though. Koivu? Maybe. Suter...
