LabattBlue Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 For the record, I will say that I absolutely do not want the Wild to win the cup this year, and it goes beyond the draft pick slotting. It would go against my misery loves company rooting philosophy when the Sabres are out of the running in any given year. The Wild are one of the teams that have yet to win a Stanley Cup, and I will never root for one of those teams to win one before the Sabres do. The never won one list has shrunk by four in the last decade (Canes, LA, Anaheim and TB), imagine if the Sabres are the only team left one day? I suppose I could root for the Wild if they met another team that's never won a cup like Winnipeg in the finals, but that's a highly unlikely scenario. I've subscribed to this in regards to the Bills and Sabres going all the way back to my youngin' days. More so than all the other teams that don't have their name on the Cup, it would kill me to see Vancouver win a Cup before the Sabres.

SDS Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Pominville's house for sale Link Are the silk sheets on ebay?
Eleven Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Are the silk sheets on ebay? No, Glass Case already has them. They're drapes, now, on either side of the shrine.
Derrico Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Since Pommers has joined Minni the Wild have been shut out 3 of their 4 games :w00t: Ryan Suter left the game tonight and did not return. Interesting times.
Derrico Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 It's a team game. Absolutely. I'm not blaming Pommers per say. Let's not forget there's still an outside shot at Minni missing the playoffs all together. After watching a few of the Wild's last few games I'm surprised their management decided to go for it this year.
qwksndmonster Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Gotcha. Hope they lose out, like we might. Wouldn't that be great if we both did?
Grumpy Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Wouldn't that be great if we both did? Yea, and they win the lottery.
SwampD Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Ideally, you want your favorite players playing for your favorite team. I can't remember the last time that was true for me.
SDS Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 It's a team game. Indeed it is. And it is more than just collecting parts like in baseball - the parts have to work together. If it wasn't, the Flyers and the Rangers would be our Overlords.
bunomatic Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Indeed it is. And it is more than just collecting parts like in baseball - the parts have to work together. If it wasn't, the Flyers and the Rangers would be our Overlords. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but Philly has surprised me this year. I never expected them to be sucking bottom scum with us. If we're as bad as we've all come to realize they must be real bad too. They'll be back a lot quicker than the sabres.

My hockey team is half philly/half Buffalo and they give a laundry list of their crap deals every game...

If we're as bad as we've all come to realize they must be real bad too. They'll be back a lot quicker than the sabres. You say that but why? They have to suck for a reason and I don't think it's injuries. Sometimes I think we like to think other teams are better than they are and that the fall from grace isn't so precarious but the Flyers average out about the same as the Sabres in regards to average finishing position over the past 6 years. They just happen to have a greater range. I'll freely admit that I did not believe they would be as bad as well, but still at the same time I think the names they've acquired haven't been as successful as what they believed would be the case.

nfreeman Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 OK, so this morning I listened to the interview on the WGR audio vault (from last week) with Michael Russo from the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He spoke very highly of both Larsson and Hackett. It was pretty encouraging. A few highlights: - He and some of the other local sports media guys were stunned that Larsson was traded - He compared Larsson to a "better Sami Pahlsen" -- which would be a great outcome for the Sabres - He thinks Hackett could be a #1 NHL goalie. - Hackett had been the Wild's top goalie prospect until this year, when he was passed in the hierarchy by a different guy who the Wild had drafted in the same year as Hackett. When the other guy got an injury callup to the Wild over Hackett, it seemingly lit a fire under Hackett, who played extremely well for the remainder of the season. - He thinks the Wild paid a very high price for Pommer, but the Wild also had a ton of prospects and not enough room for all of them, so they could afford to pay the price. - He has no inside info, but wouldn't be surprised if the Wild tried to get Vanek. He said the Wild have brought in other players who were friends with Suter and Parise prior to pursuing those guys. All in all, it was an interesting interview. Worth your time if you want something to brighten your view of the Sabres' future.

So I assume this is why Hackett had more games played in Houston than Kuemper did. That one has been bothering me for a while now, people calling Hackett the backup even though he had twice as many starts than the so called #1. Did he mention anything about why it was Hackett up with the big club in Minnesota at the deadline instead? Did he jump back over Kuemper on the depth chart due to that fire being lit under him?

I don't think he said so specifically, but he did say that the Wild probably decided that they didn't have room for both Hackett and the other guy in the system, so they were going to trade one at the deadline because they were looking to make a significant deal at the deadline (they lost out on one of the other big names, I forget which one) -- so I'm guessing that Hackett got that NHL game before the deadline in order to showcase him for buyers. He also said that although Hackett gave up 5 goals in that pre-deadline game, the Wild got smoked generally in that game and Hackett had no chance on the first 4.

Jsixspd Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Shouldn't the title of this topic be changed from "to Minnesota" to "to St. Louis"? ;)
