Good stuff. I hope Pommers lights it up with the Wild.

It's interesting how many people are hoping Pommers does well with another team despite the fact that would directly hurt the Sabres. The better Pommers does, in thorey, the worse the Sabres first round draft pick is. A good topic for another day is do we enjoy watching The Sabres or do we enjoy watching certain players on the Sabres? To me it's the former, but I think many would choose the latter, which explains why fans hate this team so much. <Monologue over>

Well that's one of the more ridiculous things I've seen posted on here in awhile.

Guys, the Wild pick will likely be well after the top 10-15 picks, where they slot after that in round 1 matters very little in my opinion. If you're motivated to root against guys to gain a better position in the draft, then start with the team that Sabres fans love to boo at home.

My comment was about wishing Pommers well on a personal level, the guy was nothing but class here and I really wish him all the best in his career

Wow, that's really saying something :w00t:

I wasn't personally trying to attack your post by the way, I've read alot of other posters saying the same thing. I guess our opinins on whether the Sabres pick 18th versus 28th matters more to me than to you.

You're right, I take that back. It's still ridiculous, but it's not up to snuff when compared with some of the other stuff.

I think some posters may have favorite players and are sad to see them go, but I'd be shocked if there is anyone here who would put their rooting interest in a single player above the fortunes of the team. In regard to draft position, historically I'd guess that past drafts would show that player outcomes don't correlate to draft position when you get to second half of round one.

While doubtful, but the Wild could still miss the playoffs.

Imagine if Sabres draft 8th, but the Wild won the draft lottery?

Picks 20 - 30 tend to level out in terms of value.

If you don't have some favorite players, some guys that you watch develop and grow to like, you're just rooting for laundry, as far as I'm concerned.

Stiff upper lip big guy.

You can still root for him and be our LastPommerFan always.

You should be happy for him that he escaped the Sabres' mess, while he still has very much to give.

I hope he and his family will be happy and I hope he gets his cup.

I love watching some of our guys develop in front of our eyes and root more for certain Sabres than others. Maybe I'm just jelous of not having won a championship but once they leave I'll only wish them well if it doesn't affect the current team.

Up and to the right of Pommer's head is a smirking guy in the background... It's Miller!

The tall guy with the super long neck two or three seats to the right of Ryan.... is that Tyler Myers?

 , but not sad  .

Classy guy and classy organization. I wish him all the best and for the Wild. {b}I will go so far as to say I hope they win the cup before the Sabres.{/b}

Really?

I don't want them to win it this year because that means their pick can't win the lottery for the Sabres. Regardless of where the Sabres slot in this year, I want the Wild's pick to be the lottery winner.

And I don't want them to win it next year, because I want the Sabres to win it next year. (Yes, I am fully aware that seeing a flying pig is more likely than the Sabres winning the SC next year, but that doesn't mean I don't WANT it to happen.) After that, the Sabres COULD be legit contenders, so I don't want Minny winning 2 years out either.

I root for the team above any single player. The team should come first in any discussion especially if moving said player improves the team. Same goes with the coach. I've hated moves where a player I enjoyed watching left but if it improves the product and gives the team a better compete level so be it. Move on. Pommer was a class act but he's gone. I don't really care how he does now. I don't wish him ill will I just don't care anymore how he does production wise and I don't understand how anyone can say they hope he wins a cup with the wild before the sabres do. That one is puzzling.

Just to be clear, I didn't say anything about this year ... ;)

For the record, I will say that I absolutely do not want the Wild to win the cup this year, and it goes beyond the draft pick slotting. It would go against my misery loves company rooting philosophy when the Sabres are out of the running in any given year. The Wild are one of the teams that have yet to win a Stanley Cup, and I will never root for one of those teams to win one before the Sabres do. The never won one list has shrunk by four in the last decade (Canes, LA, Anaheim and TB), imagine if the Sabres are the only team left one day? I suppose I could root for the Wild if they met another team that's never won a cup like Winnipeg in the finals, but that's a highly unlikely scenario.

I can get with this.

I can get with this.

And then there were 11...

Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Ottawa Senators (expansion), Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets

As we stand now I don't see many teams on that list that are in worse shape than the Sabres.

edit:

and it gets worse when you remove the teams that haven't been in the league as long as the Sabres have, then you're left with:

Buffalo, St. Louis, and Vancouver.

Ugghhh, so depressing.

Claude admittedly I'm too lazy to do the research but I wonder how many G.M.s those teams on that list have gone through in the time Regier has been in Buffalo. I'm guessing it would be more than a few.

Not that it makes anyone feel better, but I have no problem including Washington on that final list as well. 1974 is close enough.

With all the views of that Pommer photo, I'm kinda surprised that no one has commented on the chickidoodles up front.

Also, I really like Weber's game. Not only that, but he is kind of a hottie too, in that rugged, yet playful, way ...
