qwksndmonster Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I don't want grown men who miss other grown men on my team Yeah. That would be g@y
Andrew Amerk Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I remember when people groaned when we gave up Kassian for Hodgson. Larsson will end up with a similar result. The kid is built like Hodgson, and has similar leadership capabilities. Less scoring touch than Cody, but much better defensively. He's been under the radar, and Sabre fans will be impressed in a year or two. Hackett is a dice roll. Played well for Aeros and Wild last season, but has struggled this season. Could just need a confidence boost and an opportunity. The draft picks definitely tilted this trade in the Sabres favor. If somehow Larsson blossoms into the next Alfredsson, this deal was a steal.
fiftyone Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I'll start by saying I like the value we got back for Pominville. After thinking about it though, I'm not sure what to think about the Hackett part of the deal. Going into the deadline, there was much discussion about acquiring a young goalie that could make Miller expendable either at the deadline or sometime in the near future (Bernier was thrown around a bit.) I remember Hackett being fairly highly touted after he was drafted, but that seems to have faded a little bit this season. With that said, does this move really mean anything for the status of Miller? I'm assuming nobody here really knows a whole lot about Hackett, so we will all have to watch and see, but I don't see at this point anything that makes me think he is a piece that really makes Ryan Miller expendable. Thoughts?
inkman Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Yeah. That would be g@y  No. It would be soft. I want hardened ;) professional men on my team, not dudes who are worried where their "buddies" might be next year.
Grumpy Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Whether Miller, or Van for that matter, is expendable won't matter if they want to test the free agent market.
Huckleberry Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I don't know if Miller became expendable, but maybe enroth has. It will all depend if Miller resigns or not. Don't know if they have much faith in enroth or hacket in becoming the #1 goalie of the future. or both are just considered as solid back ups.
qwksndmonster Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 No. It would be soft. I want hardened ;) professional men on my team, not dudes who are worried where their "buddies" might be next year. He can miss his buddy but it can't affect how he plays hockey. But I doubt it does so the point is moot. Pommer would go hard for anybody on this team.
bunomatic Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Whether Miller, or Van for that matter, is expendable won't matter if they want to test the free agent market. If we lose either of those two with no return there will be hell to pay.
Andrew Amerk Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Pommer would go hard for anybody on this team. That's just gross.
inkman Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Pommer would go hard for anybody on this team. Gay porn hard?
Johnny DangerFace Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 No. It would be soft. I want hardened ;) professional men on my team, not dudes who are worried where their "buddies" might be next year. You don't like soft grown men? Just when they're hard?
qwksndmonster Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Gay porn hard? Derek Wah getting manhandled by his teammates hard.
wjag Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Was listening to Sirius this AM. Phil Esposito was very positive on the Sabres trade. Says Darcy got the better longer term deal and that Minnesota got the best two-way forward available. They were very positive on Johan's potential. This trade certainly turns up the speculation on Miller's future in Buffalo. I for one want them to rebuild around Miller.
Assquatch Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Players still have to play and coaches have to coach. Darcy is getting the talent. PTR The Sabres are like a kid playing with Legos whose parents keep buying random pieces from garage sales. Yeah they're getting good deals but good luck building something better than your friends whose parents got less of a good deal on the Death Star set.
deluca67 Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Pretty sure that was less about him being desperate to leave the Sabres and more about him suddenly being offered $50,000,000 by another team -- an offer he knew he'd never get from the Sabres based on their demonstrated lack of interest in paying guys like Drury and Briere. Regier was the GM the last time we were Cup contenders, although by now that seems like more of a fluke than anything. Based on the fact that he didn't make any deadline deals in 2006 to help the team win, it doesn't seem like he knew what he had that year. And his moves for 2006-2007 only made that team worse. So we were contenders, except that Regier noticed too late and then didn't seem to understand why. And we can probably stop celebrating the "three AHL Rookies of the Year in a row" thing. One is Gerbe, best known for being a folk hero in Buffalo, and the other is Luke Adam, who the franchise basically gave up on. (The other is Ennis.) Vanek was willing to talk to other teams and leave the Sabres. Considering what has happened to this franchise over his time here, IMO, he is likely just as willing to talk to other teams and leave again. This time the Sabres wont have the right to match. I'm not the saying the reasoning is exactly the same, if anything Vanek has more reason now to look elsewhere.
kishoph Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 "Trade everyone, get rid of the core, OMG they traded Pomminstein, fire Darcy." I honestly don't know how Pomminstein got in there, I typed Pomm in ville, I don't know if it was a Freudian slip or if there's an auto correct that I don't know about. There is an auto correct that replaces Pomm in ville with Pomminstein, weird.

Most find it weird that you can't correctly spell the name of the player that was the captain of your favorite hockey team. Even with it correctly spelled in the title of this very thread. :)

Bad fans or stupid fans?

LabattBlue Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 If somehow Larsson blossoms into the next Alfredsson, this deal was a steal. I read this comparison somewhere else. If Larsson's offensive upside is less than Hodgson, he is not going to be the next Alfredsson who was a PPG player over his entire career.
LGR4GM Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I slept on the trade and woke up this morning having read up on the prospects. I still don't like it. If all goes well Larsson will be a solid 3rd line winger with leadership potential. Hackett could maybe be a starter, is likely to be a backup, and theoretically could never be more than an AHL call up. As for the picks, well I guess I will reevaluate that situation this summer. MN 1st is going to be a late first, I hope Darcy can use the 3 2nds we have and move that pick up a ways. Until the draft happens, I think this draft is meh.
spndnchz Posted April 4, 2013 Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 So nobody's taking the morning after pill?
