SabresBillsFan Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 I would have loved to get Zucker in that trade with the Wild. Kid is very underrated. I live in Las Vegas and met and played against Jason in a pickup before the season. Kid can fly and has one wicked shot. I wouldn't mind seeing us try to get MacKinnion and Drouion in the draft. I have no idea how they could pull it off but that would be huge. I too don't have much faith in Darcy building a winning team.
Trettioåtta Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 My bottom line on the trade: - respectable return for Pommer. Not amazing, but good. - The team won't be any better for having made the trade unless they utilize the cap space and/or picks to bring in a high-end player. - I like what I've read about Larsson. - (BTW, when was the last time the Sabres had a good Swedish forward? I can't think of any.) - Hackett doesn't seem like much beyond a maybe -- certainly not a guy that they would unload Miller in reliance on having Hackett step in to be their starter. - Like the Gaustad trade, this one looks nice on paper/pixels, but I've lost all faith in DR's ability to put together a winning team. So it's hard for me to exult about this. - Pommer was a good player, but overpaid and ill-suited to be a captain. Good supporting player -- not a lead dog. Certainly it can't be argued that the team nose-dived under his captaincy. I'll definitely keep an eye on the Wild in the playoffs this year. - Just so we're clear: Darcy must go. 5.3 for a player who plays in all three zones, in all situations and puts up 60+ points is cheap, not overpaid

How many GMs get #1 picks at the deadline? Ours did two years in a row. Who was the GM the last time the Sabres were cup contenders? Who drafted the last couple of AHL rookies of the year? This reminds me of all the people who wanted Fitz cut from the Bills asap. Once he was gone all the same people realized the Bills had no QB. So now we are supposed to get rid of a GM who gets talent because the coaches can't make that talent play? PTR
papazoid Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Regier said he and Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher were discussing a different player when Fletcher told him he wanted to focus on Pominville. (probably Stafford). http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9130799/jason-pominville-traded-minnesota-wild-buffalo-sabres
Guest Sloth Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 better to get a jersey of a player who's jersey has been retired..... Does the NHL allow that? NFL doesn't allow fans to order Buffalo Bills jerseys like Jim Kelly. So can't have the number 12 and Kelly name on it.
Doohicksie Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Does the NHL allow that? NFL doesn't allow fans to order Buffalo Bills jerseys like Jim Kelly. So can't have the number 12 and Kelly name on it. Really?
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Interesting little factoid, just looked all time franchise leaders and points and Pommers and Satan have the same exact number of points and games played... what are the odds of that?
26CornerBlitz Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 http://nhl.si.com/20...-trade-tracker/ 4:21 p.m. TRADE: Jason Pominville to Minnesota Full details are now in on this deal…and they are stunning. In exchange for Pominville and a 2014 fourth rounder, Buffalo gets Matt Hackett, Johan Larsson, a 2013 first rounder and 2014 second rounder. Sabres fans? For all the grief you’ve given GM Darcy Regier–and heaven knows he’s earned every bit of it–he deserves flowers and cookies for this deal. Good grief, what a fleecing this is! Hackett can play as a backup in the NHL now, and has the potential to become a No. 1. I talked to a scout about him last week before he played against the Stars and he was very enthusiastic about Hackett’s athleticism and skill set. Larsson is a big-bodied pivot who plays a defensively-minded game. There’s not a lot of flash to him, but he’ll be a solid No. 3 at worst, and possibly a decent No. 2. Add in the picks and it’s great haul for a player who would have been tough to re-sign. The trick now will be convincing Thomas Vanek that dishing the captain is a re-tooling, not a rebuild, when they try to extend his contract after this season. It was a heavy price to pay, but not too steep for a Minnesota team that has a deep system and hasn’t made the playoffs in four years. Pominville plays a gritty, 200-foot game and can be used in all situations, which makes him a significant upgrade to their top-six and makes the Wild a much more dangerous team.

PTR Who was the GM that was given a pass for not winning enough or fielding a playoff roster enough simply because he was thought to be hamstrung by monetary restraints, then had all those restraints removed, and now has the team in worse shape than before? The best line of this whole charade was something someone said a couple days ago to the effect of, how is it that Darcy wins every trade and the team gets worse? I liked this trade. I liked the Gaustad trade. I like the Hodgson trade. But this was the worst Sabre team I have seen in a long, long time this year.

Trettioåtta Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Pommers gave us depth, let's hope Vanek and Miller bring A prospects at the draft

Guest Sloth Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 I'm borderline on this trade. Part of me is great, picked up a couple of prospects and got another number 1. Future could be scary good. Another part of me is dang, we will now lose Miller, think Vanek will stay, and the next few seasons will be brutal. Also, cap space has been created, but what upcoming legit UFA would want to come to Buffalo right now? Only way the Sabres can bring in a good veteran is by a trade this summer. Just my thoughts. Oh, and fire Darcy.

Guest Sloth Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 What legit UFA would Buffalo want? There are like 2 top-6 players in the UFA pool this year Didn't bother to look. Was trying to keep a glass is half-full attitude. Had high hopes more would be out there.
Kelly the Dog Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Players still have to play and coaches have to coach. Darcy is getting the talent. PTR Darcy brought the players in to be able to play at a high level or develop into a high level. And brought the coaches in and kept them to coach, and we got worse. I stuck up for him quite some time. But it just didn't work, and he needs to go.
26CornerBlitz Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 What legit UFA would Buffalo want? There are like 2 top-6 players in the UFA pool this year Trades might be a better route with the cap going down. They have some ammo to make things happen.
Iron Crotch Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 "Pominville plays a gritty" I think I saw him throw a middle school dance sort of check in a game last week. :flirt:
Trettioåtta Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Interesting idea: Vanek played for the university of Minnesota. Pominville and Vanek are friends. I wonder if Vanek moves along to Minnesota in on year

deluca67 Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Interesting, the Wild add Pominville in response to the Canucks picking up Roy. funny how things work out.
