We will miss Pommer now and going forward. Getting the equivalent of a low first, two seconds and a third for him is fair value.

We have tons of ammo to be in the lead for any first liner available in a clearance sale this summer.

And we've increased our chances for a top three pick.

Boo.

We'll have to wait until the summer to read the next chapter.

However, I think they may be targeting a quicker re-build than some may think. Larsson and Hackett could be on the roster next season, or at least Larsson, with Hackett waiting with the Amerks until Miller is traded at next season's deadline (assuming he's not traded over the summer). Keep the youth, bring in a couple of new guys who are young but ready to play over the summer, sort out your vets (which means Ott gets the "C") and let everything cook next season. Then look at 14-15 as the season to seriously start contending.

Time to turn the page. The team wasn't going anywhere with this current "core" group. Sometimes you need to take a step backward before you can take two steps forward.

The real test of the Pegula era? The fact that he begins to instill his own core (well, DR's really but the first new one under Pegula, and recently after he took over ownership) should really be the start of the "Pegula era" IMPO. Honestly, I'm excited. Limping along with the support beams year-in-year-out for a failed core was getting frustrating, not to mention utterly useless. New core, new hope

I wonder who Regier is gonna offer sheet with all these picks.

Are there any good ones out there this year? I know the UFA class is horrible

Good haul for Pominville. Love it.

Yes. Can't believe how much he got. Hate to say it, but great job on this one Darcy.

Ferraro on TSN said Sabres made out best today. Fire Darcy.

If picks are becoming the currency of the realm--as Darcy says--then all these picks might be packaged in some form for real live current NHL players this Summer. This is especially true with the cap relief they get from the trade, and cap issues other teams may have this Summer. I don't think we know the approach just yet-- if Darcy even has a clear approach vis long v. short term rebuild. But he has added lots of trade worthy pieces, it seems to me, if he wants to use the pieces as trade bait for a quicker rebuild.

This is what I'm hoping for. This team needs some elite talent to be a contender. (Pom is very good but not a true 1st liner.) IMO the front office has worried too much about depth and making sure the roster has enough role/3rd line/4th line players. If Gerbe, Kaleta, and Hecht were gone tomorrow, they could call up three Amerks who'd quickly grow into the role (see Flynn and Porter this season). So trade whoever ... say, Ennis, Foligno, another player or two, one or two top prospects and as many picks as needed (god knows they have enough now) ... to get one or two big, strong, tough, bona fide, top-flight players (either center, winger, or Dman) who can eat up 20-25 minutes a game on the top line.

Picks? Prospects? Player?

Based on the new information including a #1 and a #2 draft pick plus the two prospects, I like this trade very much now. I was almost certain he would get a #1 for Pominville at the very least and he did much better.

On the whole, I think Darcy Regier did an excellent job by trading Leopold, Regehr, and Pominville. They were not the foundation going forward. The future looks much brighter now than it did last week. Now it's up to the scouting staff to turn those draft picks into quality players.

Darcy has made some bad moves in the past buying rental players, but it seems he has learned his lesson finally.

Didn't we "win" the trade deadline last year too?

A 1st rounder for Gaustad? Slam dunk win for the Sabres. The Sabres also won getting Ott for Roy. The Sabres also won getting Hodgson for Kassian. The Sabres also won getting all those picks for three guys with no future in Buffalo.

You'd think that with the third highest payroll in hockey and with "winning" every single trade we make, we'd have a better record though. Huh.

It's the players acquired pre-Pegula that have regressed.

Imagine how bad they'd be if Ott and Hodgson weren't here and we didn't have two center prospects on the horizon.
