Yes. The Bills haven't succeeded with Eric Wood (for example), but if the Bills traded him for a second-string TE, there would be trouble brewing over at Scott's other site.

That said, I'm still waiting to hear the total consideration for Pominville on this one.

I know the full deal is now complete, but I personally hate the henpecking that goes on with these things. Are there people here who think Darcy turned DOWN better offers? You can only accept what youare offered. Darcy's only decision was to take the best deal offered today vs. waiting for a better deal tomorrow.

What you or I or ThirtyEight wants in return is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the reality of the real offers.

No reason to send him down this season.

Absolutely right, unless Rochester needs/wants him for a playoff push or something. There's no NHL roster limit anymore, either.

Waiting until summer was a possibility and could have brought a more developed player. Moving Pommer was a good idea for the right return, though; I completely agree w/ you on that.

Now that it's complete, I'll stand by what I said in the other thread: Not a fleecing and not what I wanted (I wanted the quick turnaround) but this looks like an even deal now.

With the picks involved, I'm fine with the deal. It's precisely the type of quantity for quality deal I expected.

I still think it signals a long-term rebuild helmed by Regier, but only time will tell on that.

The deal is night and day different with the picks included. Just the two prospects and it would have been a bad deal IMO. With the picks included it is a necessary step in the right direction.

Will miss Jason and disliked the deal w/o picks earlier. Feeling, much, much better. Now if only that darn rumor re Stafford and Caps could be confirmed, this would be a pretty good day. I'm with SDS. Can't feel too bent out of shape on a bottom dwelling team (but I can be concerned with Darcy remaining in charge of the rebuilding).

If picks are becoming the currency of the realm--as Darcy says--then all these picks might be packaged in some form for real live current NHL players this Summer. This is especially true with the cap relief they get from the trade, and cap issues other teams may have this Summer. I don't think we know the approach just yet-- if Darcy even has a clear approach vis long v. short term rebuild. But he has added lots of trade worthy pieces, it seems to me, if he wants to use the pieces as trade bait for a quicker rebuild.
