If anyone still plans on attending games, note that HARBORcenter construction has begun and streets around the FNC are now closed. Also the Sabres are offering 2 hours free parking in the arena parking ramp for box office and Sabres store patrons. (Not at game time, obviously.)

That suggested alternate route is insane on game nights. Michigan Avenue turns into a parking lot, both to and from the game. (Not on you, PTR; I know it's not your suggestion.)

Suggested alternate alternate route (especially since it's getting warmer): take one of the East-Wests, park, walk a few blocks.

Even better triple alternate route: park near Tupper, Chippewa, or Huron streets for about $5, grab a drink, and hit the free metro.

I parked in a lot near Washington and Genesee for $3 and took the train from the Fountain Plaza stop. It's something out of Bombay on the way back.

It's also a six or seven block walk and it's getting warmer. But yeah, the trains on the way back are crowded. Now you know why people leave early when the team is down three goals with five minutes left.

An even better alternative, stay home and watch on TV. Park in your driveway for free, can find other things to ntertain yourself with when things get ugly also

(if your set on leaving the house, another option is to go to a local bar/restaurant playing the game and support a business that also took a hit when teh Players and Owners fought to make sure they got the biggest piece of the pie)

They really couldn't wait another few weeks and start this project after the season is over to limit the issues with people attending the games? Is there gas under there or is TP just eager to show off his newest toy/gift to the people of Buffalo?

Construction. Cold weather city. This isn't abnormal and it isn't related to TP's ego, PA's conspiracy theories, the price of donuts, or anything other than you start construction as soon as you can here.

What the hell is the matter with you?

This.

If the ground's not frozen, start digging. According to the proposal, the street closures could've happened as early as January.

Yeah, I understand construction very well, my point is, with only about a month and a half left before the arena is used much less, they couldn't have waited to start the work thats gonna require closing the major roads in front of the main entrance? There isn't other parts that can be done now that will limit blocking the roads to the arena until the seasons done?

They can still dig when its frozen too, it was a pretty mild winter around here.

Nope.

The streets are being closed as crews relocate utility lines, which are buried. Once the utility lines are moved, construction above ground can begin, and heavy machinery should appear at the site late this month or early in April, Gilbert said.

Washington street is a one way so it's not going to affect getting home after the game. People only use it to get to the parking lot on the other side anyway.

So I believe they have contracts in place for teams to play there and penalties to pay if they dont have the rinks up and running by September 2014 a short year and a half away and you want them to delay a month and a half? What about when next hockey season starts up? Stop the project?

It's construction and that causes issues. We're not really familiar with construction of buildings around here and the resulting traffic issues are we?

The hotel being a secondary priority is opening late 2015 and they can take their time so to speak on that portion of the project but the rinks are full throttle first chance they get.

Probably a dumb question, but you can still walk down Washington St. to the game, right? I usually park down by the baseball field. Just want to make sure they didn't cut that route off entirely.

Looking forward to seeing some construction stuff in downtown Buffalo.

I'm fairly certain that you can, but if not, Scott to Main is a very short detour.

The sidewalk on the East side of Washington is open. Perry is too, just big fences surround the site. The old Aud site is more interesting to look at now. You can see the forms for the canals.

Hey all, apologies for the thread revival. I just picked up some tickets for an upcoming game and I haven't been in a few years (definitely not since the Harborcenter), so I'm wondering where you'd recommend parking if coming from the Southtowns? IIRC the last game I went to I ended up in the paid lot on Scott St. down by Michigan Ave. From reading this thread I'm thinking I might park in the ramp by Coca-Cola field and walk, depending on the weather. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

FWIW, I take the Smith St. exit, make a left and quick left onto Exchange St., down to Washington, take a right and go to the $3 lot at East Chippewa. You're only a block down and a block over from the Pat La Fountain Plaza Metrorail stop. And if you want to walk, it's still an easy, though maybe about a 15-minute, walk.

I agree with this. I try to park here often, as it saves you $$ and you get the choice between exercise if it's a decent night, or a 'nice' train ride.

we had friends join us at the game on saturday. we took the light rail; they drove. they described the access to the area around the FNC as difficult, at best. as others have suggested, i would very much recommend avoiding the FNC area, and just park down toward fountain plaza and then train it.

as for the train being crowded, it's a small inconvenience, IMO.

I have been to a few games this year and have parked in one of the lots near the arena I want to say on perry? In between the arena and the casino and havent had any trouble with traffic. I honestly think its easier now than it was before the construction.

A tip to avoid traffic. After the game just take your time leaving if you can. Stop by the filming of the post game show in the 200s(depends on securit. Usually they will let you watch as long as you dont do anything dumb)or just browse through the store. Once you leave the arena almost everyone is gone. You dont have to stay long, maybe 15 mins.
