I disagree with the part about 16 + 52. Maybe we'd do like 16 + 52 and Adam for 22/28.

Is this with the assumption that Luke Adam is garbage? Because that's what he is, a steaming hot pile of garbage.

One of these days, I hope you really break out of your shell and start expressing your true feelings on these matters.

Steaming may be pushing it. He's not all that hot. Maybe "smoldering pile of garbage".

Luke Adam is a throw-in that give little value to the trade. But he's cheap and could do well if he gets confidence.

Funny how far he's fallen from the savior he was after tearing it up early on.

Just as Leino was the benefactor of Briere and Hartnell, Luke found himself in the fortunate position of playing between Pominville and Vanek for a dozen games or so at the peaks of their careers. He was chipping in points so the rest of his flaws were hidden. Then he stopped producing, got demoted, played worse, got demoted again and then finally sent to the Amerks where I've had the joy of watching him make terrible play after terrible play. Maybe, just maybe he'll turn it around somehow. I just don't see it.

Laurent Dauphin C intrigues me. Saw the write up on him. 6'0" quick, projected coming out party this year. Stil skinny but with one of the later two 2nd rounders, could be lightening in the bottle. Still growing and needs fill out, but you can't teach hands and he has a motor and hockey sense. Good scoring the last two years. Will need time to develop but not bad latter round skill guy. http://lastwordonspo...ect-profile-43/

Watch the above video.

I want the Sabres to draft centers with skill and toughness even if they need time to develop for the later round picks. If a D guy is needed fine, just not in the first round.

Blowin' smoke as the draft is 6 days away.

I have a tough time believing that Sakic isn't being honest. I don't see ANY reason to take anybody but MacKinnon. He's an incredible prospect. I get that they need defense, but you can deal one of your centers to pickup more NHL-ready defense after you take MacKinnon.

More qualifying with "if today":

MacKinnon is the best player in the draft and number one on the Avs list.

But they like the other big guns enough that they want someone to make them an offer they can't refuse.

In the interview, he indicates that the plan would be for MacKinnon to be on line three. Duchene and Stastny as the top two center. O'Reilly moves to wing.

Ah yes, i see they are modelling their team after the successful 2010s Oiler's dynasty - tons of young forward stars, pretty much nothing on defence and a mediocre goalie

In almost every year, I'd say the Avs are crazy for passing up on Jones. But I think MacKinnon is too good to pass up. You can trade one of the young forwards for some defense if you've got balls (the Oilers apparently don't).

I've always felt that you pick the best player available regardless of immediate needs. This year there may not be a clear best player but if the Avs scouts feel MacKinnon is the better of the top 3 they should take him.

MacKinnon has been the number one pick in this draft for two years, ranking be damned!

Edit: Its just like McDavid...in two years there will be someone else in the conversation, but barring injury or a severe setback in his development, Connor McDavid will be a franchise C.

I said several pages ago the Sabres should take him and Justin Bailey in round 2. Dauphin is a guy I am very interested in.

Actually I need to post my final update for the Draft

With that post I am going to post my first 3 rounds of the Sabres draft:

8) Rasmus Ristolainen (D)

16) Alenxander Wennberg ©

38) Justin Bailey (RW)

52) Laurent Dauphin (C/LW)

69) Taylor Cammarata (C/LW

So I wanted to post my Final first 3rounds. This is it as far as my predictions go. It doesn't involve trades but if we just picked in our spots. I will also post 1 trade scenario that is possible and the picks for that.

Without trades:

#8: Elias Lindholm - Calgary takes Monahan and Edmonton Nurse

#16: Valentin Zykov

#38: Ian McCoshen

#52: Laurent Dauphin/Justin Bailey

#69: Taylor Cammarata/Zack Sanford

With trades: #8, #16, #38, #69 to Calgary for #6, #22, #28, #67

#6: Elias Lindholm

#22: Ryan Hartman

#28: Steven Santini

#52: Laurent Dauphin

#67: Taylor Cammarata/Zack Sanford

Substitute Adam Erne for Hartman, trade Miller to Islanders for 15 and Dipietro, buyout Dipietro and pick Curtis Lazar with 15 and you get my perfect kinda-plausible-in-a-fantasy-way-even-if-we-all-know-goddamn-well-it-will never happen scenario.

That would be a foundation.

God, I need some real Sabre news.

So anyone have a line on a draft pick twitter to watch (as in just the picks)? I'll be camping so I don't really want much nonsense, just the picks as they come in.

Phraseology...

"If today" we would pick MacKinnon. This means that no one has given them an offer worth considering but the draft is 6 days away so ratchet up the offers.

it doesn't mean they are picking him. They get to play all the head games. Unless they actually trade out of the position for a REALLY bad deal there is no way they can come out on the losing side of this situation. Worst case they draft a kid who everyone proclaims to be hockey ready and a superstar... what a bad spot to be in.
