My feeling is that Colorado is definitely trolling Florida hoping to move down one spot, still get Jones and pick up a 2nd rounder or something in the process.

I think they are rustling the bushes a little to see if any birds fly out.

LOL. I nearly squirted coffee out my nose.

Is there any chance Nichuskin falls like Grigorenko did last year?

Yes. He could get mononucleosis.

Or mumble something about how much fun it was playing in the KHL.......

Lazy Russians. I take Valery over Lindholm. The big ones that can fly... that's rare.

There's always a chance with the Russian Factor in full effect.

It has nothing to do with him being Russian for me. I really don't care where he is from but in the clips I have seen he is not tenacious in his puck pursuit and his back check is lacking. I simply am valuing a more compete player over Valeri and that player is Elias.

So if you are confident that Nurse goes before Monahan can you please put up your 1-8picks. Who takes what? How does Monahan fall outside the 7? Who is taking Nurse?

I think Edmonton takes Nurse (at the latest) if they keep their pick. Just a quick mock up, not anything official (I will have something more official later):

1. COL - MacKinnon (believe the Jones stuff, especially considering Sakic INSULTED him instead of just stating he won't take him)

2/3. FLA/TAM: Jones and Drouin. Not sure of the order, but I think those two will go 2/3.

4. NAS - Barkov.

5. CAR - Nichushkin

6. CAL - Lindholm

7. EDM - Nurse

8. BUF - Monahan

I like Elias more. Nichushkin will be in the NHL faster (but that also might be because he appears prepared to refuse to play in the AHL). So it depends on if you're worried about NHL-readiness. I think Valeri's potential is higher and he brings more to the table that we don't have already.

It would be very interesting if Nichushkin fell to us. He's a massive boom/bust prospect and I'd love to see how he would do on a line with Grigorenko.

If anyone were to take Nurse which is possible I would also guess Edmonton at #7. They could use him on defense. That being said I would not complain at all if Monahan fell to us at 8.

As for the 2nd, I like Elias more but think that Valeri has a higher ceiling. I think they both bring things to the table we do not currently have on the team but in Lindholm's case we have Girgenson's as a solid defensive center and Hodgson as a playmaker so some of his skill set is covered. Now if Armia is the sniper with size than we have some of Nichushkin's projected skill covered. Again it comes down to everything I hear about Lindholm is that he works hard on and off the puck. You don't hear that about Valeri and I think it has nothing to do with his Russian ties but with the fact he has never had to focus on back checking and such.

we could also draft Zykov and have a line of Zykov RW (6'1" 215) - Grigorenko C (6'3" 204) - Nichushkin LW/RW (6'4" 202) and all of them within 1 yr of eachother at either 18/19yrs old

the tag line for them could be "From Russia With Love"

Nichushkin

I wouldn't call it "falling" for Monahan to be at 8. I think that's pretty much his slot or maybe even a little above. We're in the PERFECT position to miss out on each and every elite prospect.

I hope they draft Nurse just so all the puck bunnies that end up at Trocaire, D'Youville, and Medaille, end up getting his jersey.......then I really hope he takes #69.

If it comes down to D at 8....Is it Nurse or Risto? Why in either case.

Nurse. Higher potential. I think he's hardly much lower than Jones. Pretty much excels in every area that Jones does. Just not quite as much. Think, in the end, Jones and Nurse end up right about the same player.

I wasn't trying to say that you didn't like him because he's Russian, I just love taking the piss out of the media machine that loves spinning every Russian player as a ticking time bomb.

As for Armia becoming our big winger with size, Armia just doesn't seem to me to be the type of player to use his size very aggressively (he strikes me as more of a Vanek). I also like the idea of having as many big wingers as possible.

I'd rather have a line dubbed "from Canada with hate"

Foligno - Monahan - Mantha... that is as close as I can get without us drafting another top winger.

So it was being rumored I guess that the Avs don't want Jones and are looking at Barkov? Saw this yesterday on a ticker on one of the sports shows

I know there were some here who wanted him and speculated he could be the guy the Sabres are after which may be why there has been more talk of a Sabres/AVs deal

risto. RHD and already playing against men.

I'm not sure if it's the same person saying this every time the subject comes up, but two questions:

- Sure he's playing against men, but is the level of competition better than the Major Juniors? He could be playing in a bar league and still claim to be playing against "men". Plus, the main thing about "men", I would think is physical play. Which the euro leagues are not known for.

- Is he playing on NHL or Olympic ice? D seems to be very dependent on angles and experience. If he's playing on different ice, he's going to take time to gain experience on the ice the Sabres need him to play on.

I'll hang up and listen to the answers.

I keep flipping around on this... UHHHHH Lindholm is good but just seeing Monahan play and listening to him talk there is a strong person there with a lot of skill. We need to trade with Calgary and just take both Monahan and Lindholm.

video made me want lindholm even more. but i would gladly take both as well.

pretty sure it was the first time i had mentioned the "men" thing.

the average age of most teams is around 26 years old. with players as old as 30's. i consider these men. and for an 18 to be playing at that level, especially D, i consider it to be more valuable than a 18 year old playing with other 17 and 18 year olds. the level of competition should be way higher considering it is considered europes 2nd best league. this is the same reason i want lindholm. oh and i agree it is going to take some time for him to adjust. but it is going to take time for most every player to adjust. Especially for a Dman.

The Finnish elite league is a higher level of play than junior A.

Probably more in line with the AHL.

As an aside on Barkov, at 17, he didn't just play in that league, he was one of its best players.

That's why he is such an exciting prospect. Think Mats Sundin.
