I saw it a couple of times but my rationale is that he has a lot raw skill and great size but because of that we can't say he will round into a top pairing defender or simply be a fringe NHL guy when everything is said and done. Great size and a lot of raw potential with early indicators being he has what it takes means he is a high risk/high reward guy. That is how I see but I wouldn't mind us taking him.

Fair enough, I'd be surprised if he busted...especially if he's not rushed into the NHL and given the necessary time to round his game out.

I'd be pissed if Buffalo passed on Lindholm at 8.
Pissed? I'd be apoplectic.

Darcy, Kevin, TPegs, et al will sprint to the stage to take this guy if they stay at 8 and he's there.

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm already mentally preparing myself for them to have a chance at someone I like and then do something goofy with the pick.

I'm also pretty sure Miller and Vanek will both be on the team when the season begins this fall. It makes absolutely no sense so of course that's what they'll go with.

Well I should at least qualify that: If Nicushkin is available at 8, i'd be good with that.

I'd still go Lindholm. I think he is probably the most underrated and ignored 1 of the magnificent 7. Nichushkin's effort scares the crap out of me much in the same way Semin's does.

Lazy Russians. I take Valery over Lindholm. The big ones that can fly... that's rare.

Yea, I would too. But he won't be there unfortunately. There's some buzz that the Lightning will pass up on Drouin at 3 for Nich. They need some bigger forwards.

And with Joe Sakic coming out and saying that Seth Jones won't be their pick (could be posturing), MacKinnon and Drouin could be picks one and two which would likely make Jones fall out of the top three.

I wouldn't be mad if they took d in the first round. Might as well build from the net out and let our forwards continue to suck. But in a draft with this much offensive talent I think we have to go offense.

I'm comming around on the idea of taking the second best dman in the draft as well. The question is who will it be? Nurse or Ristolainen??

Is that your opinion?

Well, it's an opinion I've heard in many places.

If you look at their roster, a lot of their forwards are big. But not many use their size.

Nurse will be gone by the time we pick. We'd end up with the third best dman in the draft.

1) Who do you predict taking Nurse (maybe just mock out your 1-8 picks)

2) Ristolainen may be the 3rd defender taken but I think he is the 2nd best and if he played in NA would be higher than Nurse. He should be since he plays against men currently.

I think you can say that about Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, and Barkov but I don't think it's anywhere near a slam dunk that Nurse isn't there at 8.

There was a Colorado reporter on WGR last week who pretty much blew this idea off. If Colorado is going to move they likely to stay within the top three. His thoughts were the Av's may bluff at trading the #1 pick forcing Florida to give up something to move up to #1. The idea being that Florida wants MacKinnon and would be concerned about someone moving into the #1 slot and taking him.

I would think that IF Colorado is listening and negotiating with the Sabres, the deal would ahve to include the #8 and the Sabres 2nd #1 this your (or maybe next years) PLUS Grigs (now with Roy there, I he may really want his star from the 'Q') and more. Then they would probably try and move back into the top 4 if they still think they can get their guy and know that the Sabres are going for someone else. They may also work out some other deal that could be a multi team type deal that could allow them to move down in the top 4

If what has been reported about Ristolainen is true, I am inclined to agree with you. I have nothing against Nurse persay, but Ristolainen seems to fit the mold of what we have been missing. If we walked away with him, and either Zykov or Erne at 16, I would be satisfied. I would be more thrilled with Lindholm obviously, but I can see the first 8 picks go like this:

1. MacKinnon

2. Drouin

3. Jones

4. Barkov

5. Nichushkin

6. Monahan

7. Lindholm

8. Ristolainen

I just don't see Edmonton or Carolina going defense. Although Edmonton has issues currently on D, that is not their long term issue, as they have some nice defensive prospects already developing. I also think the Sabres, if they do want to move up, should target picks 4 or 5, and forget about #1. You can still get great value there, without giving up the farm I think (hope).

Miller will be traded.

I know this because WGR550 uses an Enroth highlight for one of their teasers, not a Miller highlight. (That's some in depth reporting right there!)

Truthfully though. Colorado could be playing Florida as well. Florida is suddenly worried, they give Colorado something to move to #1 and get their guy and they benefit. Who knows.. I think that if it makes it to the media it's a form of psychological warfare.

My feeling is that Colorado is definitely trolling Florida hoping to move down one spot, still get Jones and pick up a 2nd rounder or something in the process.

If Nurse is gone by the time we pick then I will be a happy man. That means we have the leftover of likely Lindholm, Monahan or Nishushkin. Just for message board sake I hope we don't draft Nichushkin.

I feel the probably is still high that the 'magnificent 7' go in the top 7. It would then come down to likely Nurse or Risto in that situation (I just can't get behind a Horvat or Domi pick). I've heard good things about both defenders and I guess I am content with either one.

The way I see it, the top seven will be (in no distinct order): MacKinnon, Drouin, Barkov, Nichushkin, Nurse, Lindholm, Jones. Those are also the seven players I think are actually what makes this draft "deep." I don't consider a guy like Monahan to be a part of what makes this draft class impressive.

What makes this draft impressive is the top (MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones, Barkov are all guys that would be number one picks in multiple prior drafts). Then it gets really deep again when you get into the teens/second round.

So you would obviously choose Nurse over Risto if the offer presents itself? I would lean towards Risto myself. They both seem to have similar type games but Risto is playing big key minutes in a mans league already.

So if you are confident that Nurse goes before Monahan can you please put up your 1-8picks. Who takes what? How does Monahan fall outside the 7? Who is taking Nurse?

This is exactly what is happening in Colorado IMHO. The only reason to announce to the world "we won't take player X" is to try to facilitate a trade down a spot or two or three.
