Here is a snippet of an Avs fans Comments about what he thinks they should do... let me just say I wouldn't do this trade if I were Buffalo...

"The 8th pick would give us a very good defensive prospect, so that would help make up for not getting Jones. For the rest of the deal though I think the focus should be different. I wouldn't do the deal unless we were getting Joel Armia and one of Jake McCabe or Brayden McNabb in addition to someone like Grigorenko or Marcus Foligno. If they did this right, trading the 1st overall pick could set us up for years to come with quality young players."

So to summarize this guy wants us to give up 8, Armia, McCabe/McNabb, and Grigorenko/Foligno... so our top 2 prospects plus 1 of our top defensive prospects, plus 8... that impo is to steep a price to pay and would hurt us much more than MacKinnon would help us.

Have you seen some of the trade proposals that are made on here? maybe their fans are half nuts as well. You are correct though, no way in hell you make that deal. That is what scares me though - how much is management willing to give up.

It would hurt short term while we restock the system, but most of us expect to be bad for a few years anyway. It's easier to replace those prospects over a couple of drafts than to acquire a player like MacKinnon, so I'd do it. Don't get me wrong, those guys are all really good prospects, but there's not a blue chipper in the bunch.

It's steep but in my opinion it will likely cost that or more.

The ONLY way you can do a deal like that is if Miller and Vanek are used to totally replenish the prospect pool. We are in no position to gut that much out of our system for 1 player.

That's an insane trade. We may want to add a "blue chipper" but hockey is way too much of a team sport to trade that much talent away for one person. Our cupboards are not stocked with talent to make a trade like that.

I would think a period of "suffering" is the perfect time to make such a move ;)

Know what's funny about it? Colorado fans probably also think the trade is insane, albeit for entirely different reasons.

I'm tickled that we get to see the other side. Every newb and even some vets come flying in here with their Luke Adam, Drew Stafford and a 2nd round pick for #1 overall proposals; it's refreshing to get some perspective from the other team fans.

My only question is which side needs to throw in the brownies? Any do they need to have nuts?

There is a very very slight chance we could get to 4. There is NO FREAKIN' WAY we are moving into the top 3. Not going to happen. For those who are dreaming about this, don't be pissed when it doesn't happen.

Its interesting and a bit perplexing that Devine would openly admit that they've had talks. I'd prefer in a situation like this to keeps your cards facedown on the table. I haven't heard a peep from the Avs about openly shopping the pick. Suppose its in their best interest to listen to proposals.

Maybe the Avs aren't talking because they haven't stopped laughing yet?

Agreed. I cringe every single time I see a proposal that doesn't involve the Sabres feeling legitimate pain.

...but but but, Brian Burke did it 300 years ago for a 6-pack of Coors Light and a roll of abrasive toilet paper! Why not us!?!?!?!

So let me get this straight. You would trade Armia, McCabe/mcnabb, grigs, #8, and more draft picks for MacKinnon. So that translates to 3 top 6 forwards, a top 4 defenseman(if mcCabe), and additional picks for a #1 center. No thanks. Take the 8&16.

I wouldn't hate on 8, Armia, McNabb, Foligno for #1 overall. The only player in that combo that gives me pause is Armia. We still need wingers. I'd rather sub Ennis for Armia at this point.

Not sure if I missed someone mentioning this or not, but I'd be surprised if no one has.

Barkov.

Nashville taking Vanek, the 16th and a prospect/pick for that 4th overall.

The reason I'm keen on the Sabres interest in him is the comments on Buffalo looking for Fin's to pair with Armia.

Barkov centering and Armia on the RW appears to be a very good fit for this scenario, no?

Personally, it would NOT shock me to see TB take Barkov over Drouin at 3.

I as well.

I was looking at it from the multiple reports coming out of FNC in the last week or so.

The offer I put up was just a sampling, many more members on here have the true pulse of what it would take to get him then I.

But the point on the subject was his Finnish background and the comment on the Sabres looking to pair him (EDIT: him as in Armia) with Fins, it just appeared as at least an option to consider, but with this Devine interview comments, for all I know Buffalo could be looking to move up twice in the top 5, I just don't know, just spiffballing here is all.

Missed the key word NOT.....sorry about that. Blame it on being up too late and getting up early.

haha, I hear ya man, let's hope Regier keeps your schedule and gets a deal done of some type. With all the hype talk on the potential departures of Vanek and/or Miller combined with the recent sound bytes out of FNC, I'm actually optimistic Buffalo could be on the right path.

Who on the whole are equally ridiculous and uninformed in their opinions about what constitutes and reasonable trade scenario.
