It could be. He's not exactly in a league where you get your head taken off if you go to the dangerous parts of the ice.

I also haven't heard anything special about his leadership skills and the write-up X just posted up above makes him sound like he might even be a head case. I'm not seeing Dustin Brown here.

After the Magnificent Seven (congrats to whoever coined that term in this thread), I like Nurse/Ristolainen/Zadarov, Horvat, Wennberg, Pulock, and Shinkaruk. So worst case scenario is we get one of those defensemen at 8 and then all the rest are gone by 16. At that point, maybe Kerby Rychel from Windsor? The Sabres picks are weird because (at 8 and 16) each one seems to come after a group of good prospects should be gone and another tier begins.

Plus a lot of this depends on what the Sabres can get from moving Miller and Vanek. If we can pry Strome out of Long Island (or a comparable prospect from somewhere else), that'd give the Sabres some flexibility.

I thought it was fitting and my dad likes the classics.

Anyways I still think there is always a good chance any one of the teams in front of us may draft someone outside that 7 in which case we get a damn good player.

Generally, I want one of the top 6 forwards....I'm not that excited about defense at 8 - because I'm not feeling patient enough to see he develops.

Ristolainen sounds like the most NHL ready at defense after Jones. Nurse could be a home-run...but he sounds like a longer development trajectory.

I can agree with this. I'm really hoping we unload Miller and a couple of seconds to secure 1-2 more first rounders. Miller for a first doesn't seem out of line. Move both second rounders and maybe one next to secure another first. It would be huge having 4 first rounders. I don't even mind if Miller to Philly for their first rounder.

I think you've got to get more than a first out of Miller. A top prospect and a first would be decent for me. Such as:

Miller to NYI for Nino Neiderreiter and 15 (or for Ryan Strome straight up).

To PHI for Couturier and 11

To PHX for Henrik Samuelsson and 12

To EDM for 7 straight up might be fair, but maybe we can take on Hemsky's contract (they said they're moving on from him) and get a prospect out of it.

Many more options. Miller is worth FAR more than a mid-first. He's worth a TOP prospect and a first.

miller is a one year rental to a nj or a philly...that is all he is worth..before either trades for him there will be a very subtle conversation with his agent, asuming the team in question is on his list, and if his agent tells them how badly ryan really wants to be with his wife....his value is that of a one year rental. and to make matters worse the price is highest now, it goes down even more as the Sabres move forward.... a middle 2014 first as a loaner is as good as it gets imo and with maybe a bottom six nhl winger ..good luck on a nhl ready prospect with any real top six talent levell potential as part of that deal..maybe Briere//lol.. they do not have to buy him out and danny gets to be the big gun in Buffalo again .Briere and Leino together for atleast 30 games next year before they hit the ir.

Why is Fucale being talked about around here as a top 10 pick? He's barely a first rounder.

If the Sabres really want to change the future of this team, this is the year to trade up. Just do it.

I have watched Fucale for two years.

I'm ready to get back on my soapbox to campaign for the Sabres to pick Fucale at #8.

With no regard to Fucale's talent, the Sabres are way too desperate for NHL quality forwards to even contemplate a goalie in the first.

And I will repeat

Makarov, Ullmark, Enroth, Lieuwin

Jonathan Quick best Playoff GT last year... 1 game away from elimination

Henrik Lundqvist Vezina winner last year... already eliminated

Marc-Andre Fluery 1st overall pick - replaced by his backup

Bottom line wasting the 8th pick on a guy who will probably be there at 16 and maybe even 38 is as dumb as drafting EJ Manuel at 16. It is reaching and pointless. Especially for a franchise that had the worst puck possession numbers in the league.

You're also a blatant homer, but that's cool. :flirt:

Drafting a goalie at 8 and drafting Manuel at 16 aren't even remotely comparable.

Fucale will be gone in the top 20. He is that good. I think 8 is too early. My real issue with picking a goalie early is that it is boring - you won't hear about them or see them for 5 years. As a fan i want entertainment. Also of the guys you listed Markov is the only guy who is really interesting - Enroth might make an ok starter, but i would be shocked if he ever plays an all star game, let alone wins a Vezina (but then Miller is ###### and goalies don't matter so...)

I'm not too sure what your point is on the goalies though? Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Letang, Kuntiz and Iginla are 1 game from being eliminated as well - team sports require complete teams. You don't win with stars alone

makarov - enroth - hackett , we should be set in goal when miller leaves.

We don't need to draft another goalie for another 3 yrs :P

i agree. i really hope we get elias lindholm. he looks tenacious as hell. like parise imo. after what i have read, i really don't want erne at 16. and actually what do people think of Petan @ 16? this is definitely the most involved in the draft i have been. not only for the players that can be drafted, but the complete rebuild we can do in just one day is quite exciting.we may part ways with any combination of miller, vanek, and stafford for picks and prospects AND/OR take on another teams bad contract for picks and prospects! maybe i am getting my hopes up to high, but i am really excited to see what plans the sabres and darcy have.

I think Petan could fall to the second round. The kid has a skill set you cant teach - he's a witch. BUT.....he's tiny.

If he is available in the second round I would take him.

(I think Calgary grabs him)

he is quite small. unfortunately i had only see him play a few times this year. but i did like what i saw. i do hope we can trade the 16th to move up a few slots and grab another 3rd tier guy instead.

My issue with Enre is several scouts have questioned his effort and there has been mention he acts like a "diva" at times. How true this are IDK but there maybe better options at 16.

I'm not too worried about that diva stuff. An American kid that leaves home at 16 to play in Quebec - I have a feeling he'll be okay.

"owns the slot area" - - - - that negates any diva stuff for me too.

Yeah, scouts will have to do their homework, but I'm inclined to agree with you on this one.

I figure worst case scenario is Stafford, but I picture him more as Stafford should be - you know, with drive and aggression.

I'd be fine with Erne at 16.

If I am taking a winger at 16 I don't take Erne. I take Kerby Rychel, more points in a tougher league and no one questions his offensive work ethic. Also he has a comparable size to Erne and is considered a Power Forward.

I like Rychel too, but Erne has more tools - Iginla to Morrow, in their primes.

(Not saying either player will reach that level).

Also, this draft looks so good - I am sure we are talking 2003 again - but there are going to be busts, there always are.

What players scare you guys - at 8 and at 16?

I've been thinking the same thing that this looks like almost 2003 all over again, and if that is the case, I want the sabres to have as many 1st round picks as possible. I'm not sure we'd be better off bundling our first rounders to move up, then again Alaksander Barkov ... It will be interesting no matter how they chose to approach this draft.

I don't really think there is a bust pick at 8.

I would be worried about Mantha and Gauthier at 16. Big bodies - but size often compensates for skill in Juniors and the advantage doesn't always translate well from Juniors to the NHL if the skill set isn't there to begin with. Being big among 17 year olds can skew the numbers.

I like to grab the bigger bodies in the later rounds. Most mistakes in the draft tend to be overestimating bigger bodies, and underestimating the smaller ones.
