Except if you listened to Devine last year, there was no way in hell they would be taking a Russian.

okay? last year there was no way in hell the 4th best prospect was going to drop to 12th either.

Devine had a faint hope, that's why he played the Russian factor so hard.

I'm not saying he's blowing smoke again, just that there is reason to be skeptical of what he says.

I would be content with Risto and Erne.

ooo okay I follow you. Yea I agree I would be skeptical. I would be more skeptical of Erne being the pick as he mentioned him by name but the Finnish thing was interesting. Maybe they are trying to hint they will take Ristolainen but really they will take a forward. Who knows, gotta wait a month

The more I look at this I think Nischusckin, Lindholm, and Monahan are gone at 7.

Damn good thing we saw all of those momentum building wins at the end of last season. :rolleyes: They'll likely have to move up to get one of them.

If I'm Edmonton at 7 and I don't want the forward - I might trade down to 9 -13, and I can still probably get Nurse or Ristolainen, Pulock, or Zadorov. The same with Carolina if they want a D man, they can trade out of 5.

I don't think Edmonton can take a forward at 7 if noone outside Jones has gone off the board prior. They are so weak on defense they are practically begging for a good defender with size and they can have 3 to choose from. I think Lindholm falls.

which is what I have been arguing. Carolina or Edmonton if they want defense are our 2 possible trade partners.

I really think Carolina is going with a forward. They have a few good young d-men (Faulk, Murphy, Biega, Lowe), but lack dynamic young forwards outside of Rask. I don't think they'll trade the pick, and they'll probably take a F.

 

Regarding Edmonton, I concur... move down, and snag some d-men. They really need it.

Why wouldn't u consider trading the pick? He would be getting a ton back in return.

 

The vast majority of people on here have said that none of the teams in the top 3 will trade their picks because they never do. That's all.

 

Tallon has mentioned all year long that he's ready to start making the transition from rebuild to bringing up the rest of his picks, now he wants to fill in the holes with proven veterans.

Wasn't Malkin the same way? I mean he barely speaks English now, and it's his 6th year in the league. I know Nichushkin doesn't have Malkin's talent, but I don't think the language barrier should matter at all.

 

He couldn't even finish the VO bike.

 

This, on the other hand, is troublesome. If Monahan/Lindolm are gone I'd still roll the dice, but I understand the concern many would have.

Would u want Darcy to trade picks 8 and 16 plus whoever to try to move up into the top 1-4?

 

For me I see way too many good young players with potential then to trade the 8th and 16th to move up. I would really love to see both 2nd rounders into a deal for another first!

I'm all for staying at 8 and 16. This franchise needs to load up on as many prospects as possible. I wouldn't mind if they even moved down and picked up additional picks (trading #8 to Columbus for #14 & #19 for example). That being said, if they were able to move Vanek and/or Miller and pick up additional 1st rounders I wouldn't mind seeing them move up. The guys rated at the top of this draft surely are talented, I just am not sure about burning multiple assets to acquire one on the players.
