Nichushkin '100 percent sure' he's ready for NHL

Sports agent Mark Gandler confirmed to NHL.com Tuesday that his top draft-eligible client, Russian right wing Valeri Nichushkin, has terminated his contract with Moscow Dynamo in order to play in North America next season. But there is a provision.

"If he's not playing in the NHL, he's going to have to play for Dynamo," Gandler told NHL.com. "The termination [of his contract] occurred without compensation to the team. This is what we would owe the team for that provision."

I'm not sure why so many are willing to disregard Tampa as a landing spot for Miller. Tampa has the talent up front to be in a win now mode. With St. Louis and Vinny getting up there in age, they should be in a win now mode. Sure, they can wait for Bishop to continue to mature, why would they if hey can pick up Miller and a take a run now. Miller, Sekera and the #16 for Bishop, Pouliot and the #3 would be an interesting idea.

Going into the trade deadline Stevie Y knew Tampa was toast. Why would he trade a possible Calder finalist (Conacher) for Bishop if he wasn't somehow in the long term plans? Tampa's biggest problem is it's defense. I'm not saying they'd never go after Miller, but I can't see it happening, and if it does, it just makes Yzerman look foolish having overpaid for Lindback, then trading for Bishop the following year. That's a lot of assets spent (wasted?) on two goalies. Sure one of them could come back in exchange for Miller, but I just don't see it happening.

You beat me to this. I was about to say the same thing. I live in Tampa and we have a great sports talk show in the afternoon. The host Steve Dumeg, has contacts within the Bucs and Lightning that makes his word very reliable.

The Lightning will try to get to number 1. Their target is Jones. They need defense. They already can score with anyone. They have a lot of offensive prospects in the system.

If they cannot get to 1 and be assured Jones then they would consider trading out of 3 because they will target Nurse next. This brings buffalo and 8 into the mix. However, Miller would not be involved in any deal. Tyler Myers is who they want. If the lightning add Myers and Nurse to Hedman they have a pretty impressive young defense.

Now mind you this is not a rumor. Just my opinion from what I hear on the talk shows down here. Do you trade Myers and 8 for 3?

Miller became a non-issue when they picked up Bishop. End of story.

I lived in Tampa for a few years and have a number of close friends who are season ticket holders and I've heard similar things from them. If Tampa sticks at 3 (and if he's available) Drouin is the logical choice, as St. Louis can take him under his wing, but what they really want/need is defense. The logical solution for Tampa is to pony up and try to get #1 from Colorado to grab Jones, and if they can't, move down and add assets. From Buffalo they'd probably want someone like Myers, but I wonder if a package of #8, #16, and Sekera would suffice? With 8 and 16 they could get two quality defensemen, plus Sekera would easily be top 4 for them.

Another thing to remember, is that when Stevie Y was having success in Detroit, it was largely done without an "elite" workhorse goaltender. I think he's trying to replicate that with Lindback/Bishop (a duo like Osgood/Vernon?). I don't think Miller fits that profile.

gp.

I think the best reason not to trade for Miller is the chance that Tampa could land Fucale in the 2nd round.

But I fully expect this comment to kick off a slew of absurd proposals to get the Sabres to #1, which I still believe is nigh impossible.

Can I be the first to pitch Stafford, one our seconds and the rights to Al Kotalik?

I'm sure Colorado would jump all over that one and be happy to give you the 1st overall pick.... in the 3rd round. :w00t:

I'd take that deal for a 3rd round #1 minus the second

Stafford is worth keeping or trading for a decent return.

We are not cap strapped, so why trade him for nothing? Stafford has played at roughly a 50 point level for 5/7 seasons.

Tim Connolly played at roughly a ppg pace for most of his career, doesn't mean he can and I don't think Stafford is that good at all.

Scouting combine seems remarkably quiet so far.

I'm sure we'll hear more after they get farther into the testing of some for the top prospects with some results to report.

MacKinnon is back to #1 in the latest ISS top 30: http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30/

These kids were born a year after me. What am I doing with my life?

I think Horvat will be gone before 16. I wouldn't mind seeing him in blue and gold.

He'll be there at 11.

Philly gets Miller, 2nd, not having Bryzgalov

Buffalo gets Couturier, 11, Bryzgalov

This tweet is rather interesting:

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie 3m

Talked to NHL GM about COL shopping No. 1 pick: "Who are we supposed to call there?"

Patrick Roy, apparently. Greg Sherman GM in name only.

Whaaaaa. Goalies are crazy, man. If he's GM/Coach, that franchise could melt down. I could see his coaching motivating players, but for him to have total control of an NHL franchise?

... maybe it will be dealt ...

(I'm still assuming this is fake or untrue somehow)

Interesting, very interesting. Drafting 8th and 11th and 16th would change a lot of things around here. It would certainly be a huge splash.

So this kid has largely been left on the peripherals of most people's radar. He plays RW is a bulky 6'1" 215lbs. Valentin Zykov. He just turned 18 in May and played for Nova Scotia's hated Drakkar last season accumulating 40goals and 75pts in 67 games. Also of note is he played with Grigorenko in the Subway series and has only been a NA skater since this past season. He is not a sure thing and needs from all the scouting reports work on his skating. That being said he is also dangerous. He drives to the net, has a killer wrist shot, soft hands, and projects to be a power forward. Projected to go later in the 1st round (20-25) he would be someone worth trading back into the first to get. The catch is he is probably 2-4years away. In all honesty I see him taking 2 more years in Juniors and then 2 years in the AHL with occasional call ups. He has high offensive potential and the type of skill and grit we want. He something we should consider.

I'd never take Bryzgalov, he's a cancer. Plus why would we even think about sending Miller to a pseudo-rival.

i pitched that one earlier (with a Bryz buyout) and don't think its unrealistic. Depends on what Philly thinks of Couturier and of Miller.

Adding Couturier, along with, say, Ristolainen, Horvat and Domi would certainly fit with Darcy's stated goals at the press conference.

Of course, Housley, Cyr, Andreychuk and Tucker looked like a pretty good foundation too at one time.

You trade for Bryz to buy him out and do philly a favor. You trade Miller to Philly because at best he has 2-3years of prime. You have a low chance of meeting him in the playoffs and next season with the new realignment and Philly being in their own division, they are less of a rival.

Adding Couturier along with Ristolainen, Shinkaruk and Erne :P ;)
