You people really want to see people with jerseys at FNC that say NURSE on them?

If the kid can play, with his size, I wouldn't care if the jerseys read CANDY STRIPER.

Agree 100%. This franchise needs players across the board. Forwards, defensemen and even goalies. It would be a huge error to fixate on "scoring."

That deliciously ironic coming from the person fixated on size.

Rumor has it that the Oilers are interested in Barkov because they want some size up the middle. We know they need defense but it does make some sense.

1) Barkov

2) Monahan

3) Lindholm

That is meant to be their list, or at least what Oilers media/fans think it is. But they might trade it if they don't get 1/2

I think Barkov is most team's aim. I think there is more interest in him than in the big three, as he is seen as attainable

So with the Nichushkin saying he will play in the NHL it sounds as though a team must bring him to the majors in the upcoming season or he may not come. That being said I don't think Any of the top 4 teams will take him because of talent available and in Nashville's case too much risk. Caroline could use him next year and the he can be buddies with Semin parallels are obvious. Calgary may take him if they rank him higher than any of the centers left as they need EVERYTHING. They have some young talent and a power winger would be grand. Edmonton I feel will pass as they literally just drafted a Russian winger but maybe that indicates a trend they are willing to continue. If he is left when the Sabres pick I don't want to but I think we take him.

In Buffalo he gets converted to RW which will work great with his LHS. I really don't think he will be there when we pick as he will be playing for Carolina. Again if this happens it helps us.

I still hold close to my mock as far as the top 8, forums.sabrespace.com/topic/21694-2013-nhl-entry-draft-buffalo-sabres-select/page__st__920#entry483005

I'd like Monahan, or Zadorov, or Nurse with the 8th pick.

I'd like the Sabres to move up a few spots for Bo Horvat with their 2nd first rounder.

Then I'd like the Sabres to work out a deal to get another 1st rounder in the early 20s and get Ryan Hartman.

That would make the Sabres extremely harder to play against.

Who they may be interested in:

Avalanche - 1st (Miller & Vanek)

Panthers - 2nd (Miller & Vanek)

Lightning - 3rd (Miller & Vanek & Buyout)

Predators - 4th (Vanek)

Hurricanes - 5th (Miller & Vanek)

Flames - 6th (Miller)

Oilers - 7th (Miller & Vanek)

Sabres - 8th

Devils - 9th (Vanek)

Stars - 10th (Miller & Vanek)

Flyers - 11th (Miller)

Coyotes - 12th (Miller & Vanek)

Jets - 13th (Miller & Vanek)

Blue Jackets - 14th (Vanek)

Islanders - 15th (Miller & Vanek)

Sabres - 16th

Plenty of teams would likely be interested in either Vanek or Miller.

There is no quick fix turnaround for the Sabres. Superhero has the right idea. The Sabres have been a night off for most teams. In order for that to change the Sabres need to start adding the right type of players to the organization at the base level.

Of the teams listed the Lightning are the closest to be Stanley Cup contenders. I can see Miller being a missing piece to the Tampa Bay puzzle. I don't see Vanek fitting into that scenario in Tampa, maybe as a trade deadline rental.

The Islanders could be very interesting this off-season. They have a boatload of cap space next season and can easily take on Miller's & Vanek's contracts. Miller and Vanek in Islanders uniforms could shake up the East a bit.

Trade Miller to get another first. Then you use two of the three in a package deal for Patrick Kane....But in reality just move up for Jonathan Drouin.

Trade Miller to Tampa for Lacavier's buyout and their 3rd overall pick.

Offer our 8, 16, and next year's 1st rounder to the Panthers for their #2

Get Drouin and MacKinnon and put them on a line with Vanek.

I wish more than anything that they could pull it off, but I think to realistically get #2 and 3 we're talking Miller, Vanek, Myers, Ennis, 16, 8, and maybe more. IDK who would go where but I think it would cost a pretty penny to move up... Miller + a free buyout isn't enough for #2 or 3.

Just for a change of pace, you should propose some trades that might make sense for the other team.

The Florida trade may be very stretched in logic....

But Tampa is practically a goalie from making it to the playoffs and doing well, plus they had interest in trading for Miller supposedly. So maybe the 16 and Miller for VL's buyout and the 3rd overall pick.

Think Miller to some team out West! Maybe Edmonton, Anaheim(which is close to Los Angeles since Quick isn't going anywhere) possibly Phoenix. This Miller to Tampa ain't going to happen so please people let that go. Plus Vinny isn't going to be bought out to come to Buffalo of all places. I think Darcy finds no way of moving into the top 5. But I can see him moving one second and the 16th pick to move up a few spots. The more I think about it, I sure hope he trades Miller. He is at least worth a first and more. It would be nice to have 3 picks in the top 20 with still possible keeping a second or two.

The lighting did just trade for Ben Bishop at the deadline, so I doubt there would be any interest in Miller.

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS!!!!

Hmm... Monahan available.

And I see my man Horvat is up to number 10.

So if Monahan were gone but all the top defenders were still in play minus Jones, what would you do?

All this talk of moving Miller or Vanek to get into the top 5 is driving me nuts. It's not going to happen. The teams that are in the top 5 are there because they need long-term, high end talent (just like Buffalo), and they aren't going to part with those picks. Maybe for a package of Myers, Ennis, etc., but not Miller/Vanek with only a year left on their contracts. If Buffalo had a top 5 pick in this draft, we'd think DR was crazy for trading it for anything other than an insane package of picks and NHL roster talent.

Unfortunately I just don't see Buffalo being able to move up from 8. This is a deep draft, loaded with "future stars," so the only way I think it happens is if DR severely overpays and that's not his way of doing things (I'm not going to debate DR here, just accepting him for what he is).

What could happen is moving someone like Miller to Colorado for a package including their 2nd rounder (which is just as good as a late first rounder IMO). With Roy coming in, I'd imagine Sakic isn't going to feel too comfortable with Varlamov in net, and will want to make a splash. I don't think Tampa is interested, even in exchange for Vinny cap relief. They have Bishop and Lindback and will sink/swim with that duo. Florida is high on Markstrom, so I can't see them taking on Miller. There are other teams that could be interested in Miller, but they're teams that are close to contending, not building, and would only be able to offer late first rounders, not top 10's.
