Three first rounders in 2008 (CoHo, Myers, Ennis), two in 2012 (Grigo, Girgs), two this year, plus Armia (2011) and Pysyk (2010) and a bunch of future first and second round draft picks. If we can get a first plus some other "stuff" back for Miller, I do like the pipeline we're building...

Now if we can only win the draft lottery...

Ted Black on why Sabres' draft rebuild can work: "Our scouting staff has doubled or more than doubled since Terry took over the team."

Hmmmm.

Yea, but do they know their a$$ from hole in the ground? Hell, government adds people all the time and throws our tax money at a problem to fix a screw-up with no improvement. How is this different?

Any chance on Miller/Vanek getting traded in the top two? Someone earlier mentioned the Lightening, but seeing as they picked up Bishop in a trade I doubt they would be interested in Miller. Not sure Colorado would be willing to give up the first pick, but Florida may be tempted for the second-their goalies were pretty bad this year, but I'm not sure that's defense or just the goalies. They are in a rebuild like us though, so taking on a veteran goalie for a good amount of cash may not be their best option

No way Colorado does not pick Jones.

So just in terms of guys I'd want:

1. Jones

2. MacKinnon

3. Drouin

4. Barkov

5. Nichushkin

6. Lindholm

7. Monahan

8. Nurse

I'm not really sure that'll be the draft order though. Would picks 2 through 7 ALL be defensemen? Especially with Edmonton there at #7? Ristolainen, Nurse, or Zadarov probably fits their needs a lot better.

So which forward would fall to us? I'm sorta thinking Nichushkin. Then what the hell do we do?

So, Sean Monahan or Darnell Nurse or bust, right?

Depends on if someone ahead of us picks Nichushkin. If not, both those guys could be gone.

I could see Nichushkin falling to 8 . If he does, take him.

I think we have the means to move to 5 and get him

Nichushkin and Grigorenko

Girgensons and Larsson

Cody and ....

We'd be so much better off with a few less points right now. :(

My dream is for Lindholm to fall to us at #8. Or for us to trade up to #5 to get him.

For the #16 pick, I'm hoping Alex Wennberg is there.

For the #38 pick: Jacob de la Rosa.

So basically I just want all the Swedes in this draft.

Scenario 1: Nichushkin goes at #5 and Edmonton takes a defenseman

1. Jones

2. MacKinnon

3. Drouin

4. Barkov

5. Nichushkin

6. ?????

7. Nurse or Ristolainen or Zadorov

8. Sabres take Lindholm or Monahan

Scenario 2: No one wants Nichushkin due to the KHL contract and Edmonton takes a defenseman

1. Jones

2. MacKinnon

3. Drouin

4. Barkov

5. Lindholm or Monahan

6. Lindholm or Monahan

7. Nurse or Ristolainen or Zadorov

8. Sabres take Nichushkin?

Scenario 3: Someone takes Nichushkin and Edmonton decides they want MORE forwards

1. Jones

2. MacKinnon

3. Drouin

4. Barkov

5. Nichushkin

6. Lindholm or Monahan

7. Lindholm or Monahan

8. Sabres take Nurse or Zadorov or Ristolainen or Shinkaruk (note: this scenario pretty much sucks)

Edit: I *think* I could get psyched about Nurse if it came to that. Maybe Zadorov or Ristolainen too since our team needs top pairing defensemen for the future. Ideally our first pick would be a forward though, since there should be good defensemen available at #16.

Did they say Nichushkin is currently under contract in the KHL?

Yes, and for a couple more years. Although supposedly he has an out clause he can exercise. (And maybe Terry Pegula's billions could make a difference in getting things done.) Everyone is going to be researching the hell out of him in the next two months since he is as talented as anyone in this draft by all accounts.

Yes, he has two more years on his KHL deal.

In the WJC, he had 1g, 1a in 6 games. Not exactly an eye opening tournament for a guy to become a franchise guy. I will admit, i know very little about him, but his stats are not too sexy to say the least.

Maybe Terry can trade them fracking secrets?

Most 17 year olds don't play in the Under-20 tournament. And almost no 17 year olds play in the KHL. His stats aren't impressive because he's playing against much higher competition than most players his age.

In Soviet Russia....oil wells frack you!
