Sabres will pick either 1st or 7th through 11th (depending on where they finish, between 7-10, and if a team below them wins the #1.)

idk who Mohanen is but it sounds like a good hockey name :P

Anyways, if I had to actually sit down and predict the draft as of right this moment in time with the current standings (1 change being philly overtakes us and we drop 1 slot) and barring trades here are my top 10 selections:

1) Florida: Jones (D)

- need a star defensemen, I got a star defensemen

2) Colorado: MacKinnon (C/RW)

- This team is a mess and needs help, with Statsny a UFA after next year I think they grab a center but its Colorado and they just kinda wing it

3) Tampa Bay: Nurse (D)

- With a stack of forwards boasting NMC/NTC and considering how craptastic their defense was, they take a defender who has been compared to Shea Weber

4) Nashville: Drouin (LW)

- one of the weakest offensive teams in the game, Drouin fills a need and will instantly make them better, they have every reason to take him

5) Edmonton: Ristolainen (D)

- they have forwards for their forwards and need defense, they will take the best defensemen left to them and I think that is Rasmus (also a possible trade down candidate)

6) Carolina: Nichuskin (LW)

- taking a bit of a gamble they draft probably the 2nd best winger in the draft and assume it pans out in 2-3yrs, they are deep at center so it makes sense

7) Calgary: Barkov ©

- they may take Monahan if they are concerned with Barkov's shoulder but I think they will want a guy they believe is very close to NHL ready

8) Buffalo: Monahan ©

- if he is gone they take either Barkov/Lidnholm because I see no way that Regier passes up on getting a #1 center prospect again, but Monahan is the prize IMHO

9) Philadelphia: Fucale (G)

- having ridden the goaltending carosel long enough, they burn a first and get the guy of their future and worry about offense/defense some other time

10) New Jersey: Lindholm ©

- with basically a brand new roster look for next season they take a C who could be their #1 for years to come

In my ideal world we use St Louis 2nd round pick and our 1st to move from 8th to 5th, trading with Edmonton and assuring them we are drafting a forward. I think they will bite because they foresee the run on forwards that I do and are not worried about dropping a little if they add another 2nd round pick. In this case we still draft Monahan unless Drouin/Mackinnon (LOL) falls to 5th.

I agree with most of this. Edmonton would be my target for a trade to move up because they have loads of front line talent, an extra pick/player could bring them depth and after Nurse there is a gap in defence prospects so it is unlikely anyone would take one between their 5th and our pick

I also think Carolina gambles on Nichuskin because they missed the playoffs due to Ward's injury and so they are not relying on this pick as much as other teams, and if it works out they might have a Malkin - makes perfect sense for them.

Realistically I want DR to do everything he can to get Barkov or Monahan, they are not the top 3, so i think trading up is possible, we have a lot of picks over the next few years and this would give us a real top centre candidate. Also both guys like to play both ends of the ice, which is what i love in a player

you would be correct in your math,

Jeremy White@JeremyWGR 59m

#Sabres draft note. Will pick between 7-10. Odds for lottery win are more than doubled if it's 7th.

Thanks.

So basically if anyone is scoreboard watching to end the season the only teams that can effect us are New Jersey, Philly and Calgary. Hope they win and we lose for a better spot.

Most likely pre-lottery landing spot is 8.

IF we did trade with Edmonton:

Buf: 1st (Buf) 2nd (St Louis) to Edmonton for 1st (Edm)

Buffalo in this scenario takes Barkov I think. I should say that his injury and how Buff's draft board gets put together could make the 5th pick Monahan. Either way it depends on if we think we need to move up to get the guy we want.

Edmonton will either still take Nistolainen or go completely off the board and grab Radorov whom I think is a defender worthy of a higher pick than he is ranked.

or 10th with lottery unluck

The possibilities of drafting 10th just dropped.

If Buffalo loses they will draft in 8th. or 9th if the Lottery screws us which is highly likely. With Philly winning and NJ winning, all signs point to us sitting in 8th. I would guess that Colorado wins the lottery. I would also guess that if Darcy wants to move from 8th to 5th it is possible considering the number of 2nd rounders we have (2) and the fact that DR should be aggressive in this draft.

Here's to drafting 1st and 9th with Minnesota's pick being #1. Not likely, but one can hope.

I would crap my pants if this scenario played out. I am not even sure how to draft at that point. If that was indeed the case in my ideal world it would play out like this.

1) Seth Jones

6) Sean Monahan, Trade with Edmonton (Our 1st, St Louis 2nd)

Just heard that if the Dynamo deal is approved Nichushkin can not play in the NHL next year and is extremely likely he can not in 2014/2015 either.

With that said I think that in my original top 10 I would change the Ninchuskin pick to either a trade down, Monahan or the most likely candidate for Carolina, Hunter Shinkaruk.

Mock drafts agree on top pick -- and that's it: http://www.nhl.com/i...id=nhl:topheads

(D) Darnell Nurse, (C/LW) Hunter Shinkaruk, and (D) Zach Fucale at #9 respectively

(G) Zach Fucale, (D) Shea Theodore, and (D) Shea Theodore at # 18 respectively

Note: Didn't know Nurse was Donovan McNabb's nephew

Wow, all three of the "Part 2" mock drafts on NHL.com have Lindholm available when the Sabres draft -- and the Sabres passing on him each time.

After the Big 3 and Barkov, Lindholm is definitely my no.5. He'd be our top prospect if we landed him.

Barring a draft lottery shift, the Sabres are drafting 8th or 9th. I'm starting to brace myself for 1-2 players I really like being available there and the Sabres going in another (wacky) direction.

I'm more shocked they have Monahan available when we pick and us passing on him every time. mynhldraft.com also has him going to NJD and us picking Shinkaruk

What I like about Barkov and Lindholm is that they're already playing in the top leagues in their respective countries and doing really well. That means more to me than any success in the CHL. These are teenagers who can already produce against adults.

That should also bode well for Armia.

I know these are mocks and all but there is no way in hell that Buffalo Drafts a defensmen with their 1st pick unless his name is Jones. Also there is no way in hell they take 2 defenders in the first. There is also no way they draft Fucale in the first. I call these mocks les conneries.

After hearing about Nutchuskin today I think he drops later into the 1st. I think Regier recognizes the need for more options down the Middle and if he can draft and #1 C, that trumps #1 D every day in my book.

Look we built a team from the wings (Pominville, Stafford, Vanek) and failed. Let us start by doing what almost every single cup winner since 05 has done and build from the center. Which player touches the puck the most? Center so lets stock up on them and if some end up is wings, who cares.

I could see them taking a defenseman. With Myers in a tail spin yet again this year, I don't think the Sabres have a franchise defenseman right now (first time I'm saying/thinking this since his rookie season). Darnell Nurse could be that guy. I know I'd like Lindholm better and I'd probably like Monahan better too, but there's a pretty good chance that they're gone by the time we pick. If that's the case, it could be Nurse or even Zadarov.

I think Nurse will be gone too. If Nurse, Monahan and Lindolm are all gone (very possible) I want Nichushkin. Roll the dice and hope he's willing to use the out clause in his contract after next year.

no. absolutley not. he won't play in the NHL before 2015... NO.

Did you miss the part where he can get out of his contract one year into it? Sure, it's a risk...but it's a risk on a guy who many scouts think, talent-wise, is in the same breath as the big three.

No I read it but I don't think he comes before it is over. It is a gamble this team can't afford to take anymore.

He's a ridiculous talent. If not for the contract issue and the "Russian factor", he'd be a top three pick this year.

I know he's said he wants to come over to North America, but it's really tough to gauge his dedication to playing in the NHL. In general I like taking the guys with the most upside, but the Sabres really need to do their homework before drafting this guy. Although this might be a good chance for Pegula to flex his muscles (i.e. his wallet).....

If the Sabres are never going to bottom out and get a top draft pick, they might have to gamble on high-risk, high-reward guys if they're ever planning on getting top talent.

For all we know, Nichushkin and Grigorenko are friends from the WJC and he might like the idea of playing alongside him in the NHL. Putting those two together on a line is really intriguing.
