I couldn't help but think earlier when looking at Zagrapan's career stats what league the top two forwards in this year's draft come from as well...

I think Sabres fans are a little paranoid about Zagrapan - plenty of QMJHL players play in the NHL

There's definitely a stigma attached to that league though. I'd be curious to see if it is justified or not. Someone with more time than me is going to have to look at how many players come out of each league. My guess is it would wind up being pretty close to 33/33/33 and the whole thing is just a stereotype that guys like Don Cherry like to push, but it would be interesting to see.

Okay just looking at the 1st round of the last 3years of drafts:

OHL: 11-2012. 11-2011. 9-2010. (total 31)

WHL: 6-2012. 4-2011. 7-2010. (total 17)

QMJHL: 1-2012. 5-2011. 1-2010. (total 7)

USHL: 6-2012. 3-2011. 4-2010. (total 13)

Is that players drafted, or players playing in the NHL? I think that was the point, the Q doesn't produce as many regular NHL players as the other junior leagues, not that players aren't drafted.

Players drafted but I think it goes hand in hand. If you draft more players from the OHL I would assume they are better and more likely to play in the NHL. Just like if the QMJHL only has 7 first round selections from the last 3 years I would guess that fewer of those players are making it to the NHL.

Exactly. The last 3 years of the draft is not going to tell you anything. If someone was bored, they'd be better off going through every NHL roster. That still wouldn't account for people who switched leagues though.

I think Liger is right that it goes hand in hand. I'm surprised the first round picks are so heavily tilted *away* from the Q, although I probably shouldn't be given my own skepticism about the league.

Pominville is the best guy we've drafted from the Q that I can think of and I don't even know who I'd submit as the second best.

Turgeon? Audette? Barnaby? Biron?

I think Darcy's plan is for the Sabres to suck hard and nosedive the rest of the season into a top 3 pick, then he's going to move back up and grab one of Barkov, Monahan, or Lindhom to compliment that pick.

Colorado is much better at home than on the road. Home record: 10-6-1 Away record: 2-14-3 (wow!) 7 of their remaining 12 games are at home, including a four game homestand.

...on the other hand, Calgary finishes the year with a 4 game roadie. Their road record to date... 3-11-2. :(

Every single year.

Sabres climbing out of the cellar to push for the 10th overall pick. Every single year, as sure as the turning of the earth.

I think we can come 4th. I think top three is a pipe dream (unless we win the lottery).

It would take a miracle to land in the top 5. A miracle. If I've learned anything about the Sabres the last few years, it's that they will suck most of the season and then pile up a bunch of garbage points to end the season and end up nowhere.

We're looking at 8th or later. The Sabres late season win streak is already underway.

We have:

NJD

WPG (away)

MON

PHI

TBL

BOS (away)

NYR

PIT (away)

WPG

NYI

A lot of those teams are in the hunt for a) playoffs (NJD, WPG, NYI, NYR, PHI) b) NE division (BOS and MON) c) President's (PIT)

That is a lot of desperate teams with something to gain by winning. We played a beaten up Ottawa and a Pens team that needed to be reminded they are mortal.

I think we beat NJD, PHI, TBL, maybe NYR and maybe one of the WPG games - so i predict:

4-5-1

To give us 45 points,

West

COL, CGY are too good at losing - they take the bottom 2/3

DAL I think get 10 out of their last 24 points to give them 45 points (they have a tough schedule), but beat us on ROW to go behind us

NSH and PHX won't be a threat

East

TBL are a bit of a nuisance, they could get only 10 points, but i think with their new goalie they scrape 11/12, giving them 45/46 and beat us on ROW

CAR are also trouble makers (damn that weak division) and I think they might only get 9/10 points to give them 43/44

PHI won't be a problem, i think they get to 48 points minimum

WPG have a huge homestand coming up - again I think they hit the 48 mark minimum

So:

1st - Florida

2nd - Calgary

3rd - Colorado

4th - Carolina

5th - Buffalo

6th - Dallas

7th - Tampa

Carolina is the team that worries me - they have had a major melt down since Ward was injured (1-8-1)

4 back with 10 games to go. This isn't over. We might not even be eligible for the lottery.

5 really, because we're not beating anybody on the tiebreaker. And teams in front of us have games in hand. It's not happening. Just lose baby!

Don't get me wrong. I fully appreciate that it is better for the team if they lose.

They're not going to lose.
