New forum rule: All posts must be some sort of creative poetry/prose. Let's turn this place into a freakin' role playing forum if the team doesn't get better.

I said it months ago ...

STINKIN' FOR MACKINNON!!

Although, I'd rather have ... SUCKIN' FOR DROUIN!!

Since you prefer Drouin and have seen both play, how close do you think they are in terms of pure talent? I guess what I'm asking is, is Drouin superior enough to discount the positional value of center over winger?

I have seen both play.

On a pure talent level I would say they are pretty much equal, as "can't miss elite level" future NHL players.

I also watched Crosby at the same age, when he was playing in the Q. MacKinnon has been described as the next Crosby by many and I would agree with that. I think MacKinnon could even end up better than Crosby, only because MacKinnon is much more physical. In the last Mooseheads game he levelled two guys on the same shift.

Drouin is just pure magic with the puck. Youtube him. It is just unbelievable. And he can / does play centre, but I would have him on the wing. A pure goal scorer and assist machine. And is quite physical, as well.

When they play together for the Moose, which is often, everyone stands, because everyone knows something amazing is going to happen.

I said up thread that it would be an extremely difficult choice if both were still available, but I would pick Drouin. Just because of his magic with the puck and his uncanny ability to score goals and for his strength on the puck, to get the puck, to keep the puck and to dish the puck perfectly for a goal.

From what I have read and watched, Drouin is a pure goal scorer stickhandler with insane skills. MacKinnon has less stickhandling but a really great eye, hockey IQ, work ethic and he is physical. If I were GM I may consider trying to blow up my core to make Drouin/MacKinnon my new core. Find a way to draft both.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. Always good to hear from someone who watches both play and doesn't talk in scout-speak.

You call one call the next Crosby and then say you'd take the other guy. Your Halifax bias is showing through on this one. ;)

We're undervaluing Crosby quite a bit with this one. That's the kind of post that winds up having half of this board thing that every single prospect we draft is the second coming.

Thanks, guys ...

Thank you, too. I will freely admit to my Halifax bias ... ;)

Maybe, I shoud have described Drouin as the next Selanne, but just on the opposite wing.

I sent a reply to your PM, by the way, in case you haven't read it yet.

I also agree with LGR that the new Sabres GM ( ;) ) needs to find a way to draft both MacKinnon and Drouin, oh and Fucale ... the Buffalo Mooseheads. I like it

Fucale is definitely a possibility. I've seen him going early in the 2nd round in a few mocks, and to the Sabres there in a couple of those.

With an early 2nd round pick to move up with, the Sabres should be able to double dip at Center as they did last season. There was a prospect ranking that had 12 centers projected in the top 30. Flooding this organization with center prospects is a great idea. As someone said previously, it's easier to move a center to wing than it is to move a wing to center, if you had to. This is similar to Mike Schopp's idea of drafting a QB every year.

I like this thinking. Other than goaltenders centre ice men are a rare commodity. They have more value so stockpiling them is smart. We've won 5 times in our last 16 games due in part to our lack of centres. Vancouver is 5-17 right now with no offence beyond their first line and they have a lack of centres. Build from the centre ice position out. I like it.

Sabres win tonight and are now tied with Calgary for 4th least points. They have 1 less than TB and Philly, 2 less than Edmonton and Nashville, and 3 less than Dallas and NYI.

I've been saying it for a while, but definitely don't get too attached to the notion of drafting MacKinnon, Jones, or Drouin.
