162 for 8! England can do this!

But the Ashes are already lost :(

There has been a major revival. I'd bet half the country is fluent right now. Even when I was there (it's been a long time!), a lot of people spoke it and there was pride in the ability to do so. Some strange young woman wrote two pages in my journal, each was in Welsh. No translation. (I'm sure I know what she meant, though.) Signs were primarily in Welsh, and secondarily in English, for example. Newspapers were very much mostly in English, though; I'm not even sure that I saw a Welsh-language paper.

EDIT: Of course, location within Wales might play some part in it. I was in Snowdonia, and, more specifically, in Betws-y-Coed (a name that need do no more to betray its heritage). Maybe the southern part is more English or something.

No you're right there is a big push and welsh-only taught schools are coming back etc. It seems like a waste to me, but the welsh language is hilarious so it would be a crime for it to disappear. I think they are even making pushes to make it compulsory at GCSE (age 15/16 exams)

I really don't understand cricket at all. Its not on/I don't watch it enough/ever to become interested. It really is a tragedy, since the majority of my ancestry is Welsh (guess my last name).

For me, it was pretty easy to draw parallels to baseball. Last time I was in England, there was one of those 5-day matches (England vs. West Indies, I think) on TV every morning. Using baseball as a framework, it wasn't too hard to get the mechanics worked out. Rugby was the same same, there's parallels with American Football (league rules moreso than union rules).

Bump ...

I loved the Blue Jays when we lived in Toronto and they were winning the World Series.

Don't really follow them any more, but they are 13 games over 500 with a 5.5 game lead in their division.

Can't remember the last time this happened in June.

A long way to go, but they are looking good right now.

I was thinking about bumping this the other day.

My Orioles are having a solid start despite some injuries (Three of their best position players have missed significant time) but they still trail the Jays by 5.5. Thank god for the long season and the wildcard(s).

I've found that the last two years, as my oldest has started T-ball (I'm the head coach!!) all my old love for the game has come rushing back. My brother bought himself and me new gloves for my birthday last year and we get together about once a week just to throw. The sound of ball hitting the glove is so damn satisfying.

O's - Athletics is three MLB.tv free game this afternoon. I know what I'll be doing :-D

We sighted a real live Baltimore Oriole in our neighbours yard earlier this spring.

They are not seen in these parts ... must have been migrating.

Awesomely handsome bird, for sure.

Was it Ripkin and, if it was, did you get his autograph?

:P

You might be able to attract them. They make feeders for Orioles that you put half an orange and some jelly in and they love it. My mother started doing this after we saw an oriole once and now they know to come to her house because that's where the good stuff is. ;)

No, sir. No it wasn't Cal, Jr.

We read up on it and just cut some oranges in half and hung them around the yard and our neighbours yard too.

No luck with the Oriole, but we did attract many bees ...

We love bees.

Same thing happened to me. When my son started playing baseball I volunteered to coach. And it revived my love interest in the game.

Coaching kids baseball is the most enjoyable experience I've had as an adult. I ended up coaching my son for his entire trip through little league.

You may have to try for a while before the Orioles figure out that the food is there. It could take a whole summer but once they figure it out they'll always come back.

I hate birds. All they do is make noise and poop everywhere.

We have had nesting pairs of crows set up housekeeping in our yard for years now.

We feed and encourage them to continue to do so.

Our neighbours hate us, but F'em.

There is no better thing in this world then to be awaken for Fajr prayers (now at 3:37 AM) by baby crows.

With respect, I can think of a large number of things better than that :P
