To be honest, I've totally lost interest. I've only been to a couple of games this season. Which is hard to say, as I've been going to games for over 30 years.  It's me and my Dad's time away from the rest of the famy! Haven't eveb watched any big  games on TV either for a couple of years. The games are really expensive now for diabolical football. I can go watch the Glasgow Clan play hockey for less money, and it's a far more enjoyable experience!

Official invitation to join the Football Club has been sent.  It's my club, so I can invite who I want.  I have not had to throw anyone off the island, yet.

Actually, we are a very good bunch in there.  It's not like some other clubs ... ?

So on Golf; I don't follow it very closely, but:

Is John Daly somehow relevant? I happened to see a Golden Tee arcade machine at a bar yesterday, and it was all "PLAY AS JOHN DALY!" with pictures of him and ugly pants (even by golf standards). Last I knew, 20 years ago he could hit the ball a mile but couldn't do anything else, and then became an outcast because of something crass or dumb.

OK, it just seemed strange. Like having some mid-2000s plug that had a miracle 20-goal season on the cover of NHL 2020.

He still has a bit of a following when he’s out there for senior events. He was here in Cary, NC last year and they made a whole big deal about where he parks his RV during the event.

He'll always be immensely popular as the people's golfer. Plus there's the 'Asian John Daly', as the announcers refer to him as, now too

I once saw John Daly lose $60k on $25 slot machines after shooting 1 stroke off the course record and then withdraw from a tournament.

I also once saw Tiger Woods walk into a casino, he wasn't thrilled with the music and asked for some DMX. This is a casino. It's elevator music controlled from God knows where...and he wants DMX! Sooooo we hooked my iPod up and Tiger got his DMX.

....I like them both

And they literally just played Party Up in Columbus after Bobs made that last save...

I just bumped into this story on TSN.  Yesterday, in his 6,827th plate appearance over 13 years, Joey Votto popped out to first for first time ever.  I have no idea how they are even aware of a stat like that, but that's kind of crazy.  That long of a career, and up until yesterday, he was tied with me.  Amazing.

It's been kinda a side story baseball people have been following for years now. Not only is that the first time he's ever done that, but he simply just never pops out to the infield either; he does it like 3-4 times a year, which is just insane

Is he a guy who makes a lot of contact during his at bats?

He has an incredible eye so he's never swinging at bad pitches. When he does swing yeah he makes solid contact

Here's the article. He's popped up, including that new one, 8 times since 2010. And in all of those seasons, he's only missed like 10 games max for one season

https://www.12up.com/posts/6122650-joey-votto-s-career-pop-ups-should-be-your-new-favorite-stat

It's a shame he's been buried where he is, because he's truly been one of the greatest hitters of the last decade

He's also notorious for being kinda an *****/jokster, which is hilarious

He's signed there twice, so he's choosing the market.  I can appreciate players like that.  Plants his flag and says, I'm all in.

Have we ever seen what's happening to the Red Sox happen before?  Championship teams have dismantled and been terrible but it's basically the same team. They are setting records for futility on the heels of breezing to the WS. I'll admit last season was fortuitous and it's likely they would come out with the so called hangover but it's full on panick mode in Bean town now. I'm sure most posters here are thrilled by this and I can't complain too much as the last 15 years have been a great ride but what is going on with them.

2013 Red Sox WS team was pretty much the exact opposite—bad team becoming good team with mostly the same roster.

Yeah but there were signs of improvement and growth. This year's squad just fell off a cliff. Only 3-4 players are even close to their norms. It's like they've been drugged.

Being in South West Florida I'm getting the opportunity to watch local programming. Things I normally never watch, like post game shows after losses I can comfortably watch after the Sox beat the Ray's and I these shows are so bizarre. Asking a pitcher what lead up to a grand slam is some ***** I can't comprehend. My answer would be "i*****ed up, the end". But these guys answer this ridiculousness to the end. More power to em. I'd tell the reporters to ***** off in a heartbeat.

Noah Syndergaard just threw a complete-game shutout and hit a home run in a 1-0 win.  Seventh time ever that's happened, last one was Bob Welch in 1983.

That's a good day at the office.

DeGrom should try this so that people will stop whining about him winning the Cy Young with a 10-9 record.

Gotta show a little love for CC Sabathia hitting 3000 Ks earlier this week. Only the 3rd lefty in MLB history to do so and 17th pitcher overall. For comparison, 32 hitters have recorded 3000 hits. This is a pretty elusive club!

I read this and thought kilograms rather than strikes.

I was going to say that it's impossible that he surpassed Bartolo Colon on that scale (pun intended?), but I never realized how much taller CC is.

5, 7, 1, 17, 8, 16, and 14. Those are my Derby horses in no particular order. I've got $24 riding on this race in various ways. I like the 1 to go wire to wire especially since they moved him off the rail and I like the 17 because a horse has to win from that post eventually, right...that's how math works, isn't it?  For a bomb let's toss 2 bucks on the 15 horse. He's Japanese and I like their food, cars and electronics.

I miss @Ghost of Dwight Drane
