TrueBlueGED Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 The word last year was that that was where they wanted him. His future as a LW was pretty much sealed when we drafted two centers in the first round. I hope he makes it. I know everyone is down on him after last year but he has a ton of talent and he fits into the 'bigger' team we're trying to build. The Sabres roster is still a mess though and they'll need to make moves to help sort things out. I'm not high at all on Adam at center, but Adam at LW is a different proposition entirely. The Sabres have literally no good LW prospects, would be great if Adam took off there. Apparently Adam's skating was much improved from where he was last season, which would be great news as well. Blah blah one practice, but hey, I'd much rather he look great out there than look like a turd. Edit: If you count Foligno as a prospect, the Sabres have a good one. To avoid confusion, I was referring to Rochester or juniors-bound guys.
Robviously Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I'm going to go all-out, hey criticize me, but this is not exactly what the boys need. Coke and hookers, no. Navy Seals, also no. Maybe I'm wrong. Eh. It's basically a macho version of doing trust falls for team building or whatever. It can't hurt (and, seriously, if any of these guys is so fragile that pretend Navy SEALS training causes them distress, they probably aren't going to lead us to a Cup). It's also probably not going to result in the Sabres being a team of total badasses either.
LGR4GM Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I think they brought in the Seals to teach discipline and team building, not toughness. But everyone is in bitch and complain about everything mode so carry on. ps. Ruff sucks, Regier sucks, Millers sucks, Pominville shouldn't be captain, and if Voldemort knew about navy seals that Potter kid would of never reached adulthood.
Lanny Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 This quote from Grigorenko should clear up what they were doing: "We had to go swim in the lake just to go there and make yourself wet for like 20 times probably and then go back and make yourself all dirty in the sand," Grigerenko said. http://www.wgrz.com/sports/article/174161/4/Sabres-Train-With-Navy-Seals-

Liger, you've not known me long, but you've known me long enough to know that if I'm in "bitch and complain mode," there's a reason.
nfreeman Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 11 -- I think those 50 points you were looking for, plus most of the additional 35 you want them to make up that relate to Roy, will come from better years from Ennis, stafford, vanek, Leino and hodgson. Separately, can anyone here corroborate TBPhD's barber's cousin's friend's description of Armia as he next Jari Kurri?

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 A reach around for Roy's info before the draft? Yeah.....put on the tinfoil hat why don't you? Everything is a conspiracy........ Can't you accept the fact the kid is talented and you have an astute GM that sees things the average GM can't?
LGR4GM Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Liger, you've not known me long, but you've known me long enough to know that if I'm in "bitch and complain mode," there's a reason. I am with you, I am worried about this roster going into this year because we are low on goal scorers and high on not much else. Ennis, Pominville, Vanek, Stafford and Hodgson most hopefully is the extent of goal scoring and thats roughly 80-100 goals if we are lucky. Where are the other 150 or so coming from? Some will come from the defense and some will come from the other 2 lines but thats a lot of ground to make up. another 30 goal scorer would go a long way to ease that pressure. The issue is the young guys. Oreo, Ziggy, Armia, and even Foligno. Are they ready? when will they be ready? What will they do and how soon? I can't answer these questions but Darcy if I know him, will not go out and pay for someone like Ryan or Nash if he thinks that as soon as this year and most likely next year, he could have 2 or so players that can put up 20 goals and 60 pts. Its been 41 years and I understand why ppl do not want to wait longer. Sadly my gut tells me that next season will be better and that we must weather another season of struggle. I only hope that the young players prove me wrong.

inkman Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Liger, if they do struggle (and I'm already anticipating they will), the Sabres can add another asset with a high draft pick. If Goose fetched a first, what would Vanek, Regehr or Leopold fetch? I'm willing to be patient if I see a plan in place.

I understand why those who have been around to watch more sabres hockey over the last 41yrs are not willing to be patient. I see a plan, it is just that that plan involves developing Grigorenko, Girgenson, Ennis, Armia, Myers, Hodgson, Foligno and waiting until they hit their prime. 2-3 yrs from now I could see us winning a cup but I doubt that this year unless some very special players come forth from the prospects.
nobody Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I'm guessing they brought the navy seals in to make the players think that Lindy isn't that harsh.
LGR4GM Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I'm guessing they brought the navy seals in to make the players think that Lindy isn't that harsh. here is my question... some people say Ruff is to Harsh on players but then he coaches the toughness out of his players... that seems like a paradox so which is it? He is to harsh or he coaches the grit out of ppl, it seems unnatural to do both. Just my personal opinion.

That's what I've been able to gather from various posts, anyway.

Pegula did say a '3 year plan' I think this year is get to the playoffs and make it past the 1st round. Oh and there seems to be an emphasis on bashing Boston into a bloody pulp as well but I'd say thats less relevant.
ROC Sabres Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 That must be why they have them jump into the lake at 5am... but why roll around in the sand right after? To add some extra grit.
spndnchz Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I really need to get going if I'm going. Just can't get going this morning. :(
qwksndmonster Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I can never get going in the morning, and tomorrow I'm supposed to be leaving at around seven.
shrader Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I really see it as more of a "look how lucky you are" type of training. These guys have to do this kind of stuff for a living and you have the chance to play hockey. Oh, and oreo is the dumbest nickname of all time.
