TrueBlueGED Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 But that doesn't mean that Lindy might still bench him. So? If a player is playing like cow dung (as Weber did last year), they should be benched. I don't think a vet like Ott is going to shut it down just because his little brother got benched.
darksabre Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 I think there's a difference between being benched and sitting out. Weber "sits out" a lot because he's not really a permanent spot-holder.

drnkirishone Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 your right there is a difference...... and he was benched all the way to the press box lol

I think this season Weber shows us what the rest of his NHL career will be like.

IKnowPhysics Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 Whaaaa??? Players making other players accountable? That sounds like leadership! I hope Weber steps up.
dEnnis the Menace Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 ASk Philly about this year, or last year for that matter. First round series don't matter. Final 8 series do. We did lose to Philly correct? I love Ennis and have been quite consistant on that. He has great vision and is a power skating coach's dream. I've said for months that there is room for one diminutive player on an NHL cup winner and Ennis was my choice. Gerbe and Roy needed to be moved. One down, and one to go. He(Ennis) will be tackled and you will see his production decrease if we move deep into the playoffs. 163lbs is the lightest player in the league. If Darcy makes us tougher, he will find some space. We are still soft down the middle, and he is part of that. We drafted to help that, but that isn't changing us by next May. Ask Martin St Louis how being tackled in the playoffs goes...oh wait. Nope, he did pretty damn well two years ago. he's only 10LBS heavier I believe, and the same-ish height. I really dont think he'll have the issues you're saying he will, especially with Foligno, Ott, and Scott around, not to mention Weber and Kaleta. (that's got a ring to it...). But I also think that this team needs Gerbe as well. I think this team can be succesful with both Ennis and Gerbe. I am more than happy that Roy is gone though.

I know the comparison to St Louis will always be there when talking about whether Ennis will hold up. I'm of the opinion that he won't and it simply doesn't matter that the Sabres may have bigger bodies to help with his protection. He will be targeted because he must be targeted. He will be centering what looks like the most dangerous line. It is simple hockey strategy to target him on every shift. I don't think his frame can handle the pounding it will take. The league is chalk full of Chris Neil types who are out there doing their job.

It's up to Ennis to continue to work that elusiveness into his game. He was centering the best line in Hockey for a month during a playoff race last year, and no one managed to kill him. His only injury all of last season was a freak collision at the perfect angle with the a stuck goal post.

Ennis was our best forward ( maybe 2nd to Vanek) 2 years ago in the playoffs vs the Big Bad Bruins with only a handful of NHL games under his belt. Remember that???
TheChimp Posted July 6, 2012 Report Posted July 6, 2012 I'd be real excited to have Leino on my team as the no.1 LW if we were an AHL team. Believe me, I'm with you. I do think, though, that Darcy signed him to that mega deal to replace Vanek, either sooner or later, and not be a center the way it seemed to be working out when he got here.

I do think, though, that Darcy signed him to that mega deal to replace Vanek, either sooner or later, and not be a center the way it seemed to be working out when he got here. There is no comparison between vanek and Leino either in terms of hockey (Potential 40+ goals vs Potential 20-25 goals) nor contract ($7.1M vs $4.5M)

inkman Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Leino being primarily a defensive forward He was not signed to be a defensive forward.
Robviously Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 He was not signed to be a defensive forward. Thanks, I was wondering if I was the only one who remembered him being signed because he was an offensive dynamo (especially under pressure) and a natural center. Oops.
Meathead Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 boy ville looked like a good signing at the time but after watching him all season id rather have milli

qwksndmonster Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 For me, the Ville Leino signing was a good one because of the way that Gare says his full name. Hilarious. In all seriousness, I like Leino and he's poised for a bounce back season (duh. any season is better than last season).

Look, I know the team needs role-players like Boyes (or Hecht), but FFS, the price they pay for them!

Look, I know the team needs role-players like Boyes (or Hecht), but FFS, the price they pay for them! If you would just toss in "hits" or "physical play" into every other sentence, I'd be convinced you and DeLuca swapped accounts to screw with us.

Look, I know the team needs role-players like Boyes (or Hecht), but FFS, the price they pay for them! Leino showed more in the second half of last season than Boyes ever showed in blue and gold. I don't think he'll ever justify his price tag, but I try not to let high cap hits affect my opinion of players too much.
RazielSabre Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Thanks, I was wondering if I was the only one who remembered him being signed because he was an offensive dynamo (especially under pressure) and a natural center. Oops. He was brought in to improve our puck possession, be a centre and score about 50 points a season. The fact his defensively sound is a benefit. Thats my read anyway.
