spndnchz Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Post your official Sabres first round and second-round picks here. We'll split off into pinned threads for each Sabres pick and/or trade.
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I'm far too optimistic to make legitimate predictions about the sabres here, so I'm just gonna wait and see where the cards lay. Always one of my favorite days of the summer though. Let's bring home somethin nice Darcy
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Anyone going to the party at the arena?
inkman Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I kinda feel like too much exposure has been given to the NHL draft. After the first couple of picks, it's all a crap shoot with a bunch of teenagers. Posters will pontificate to no end about kids who nobody has any idea about. They have tried to make it like the NFL draft, but there is a 5-8 year age difference. It's a lot easier to project a 23 year old vs a 17 year old kid.
dudacek Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I know I'll be pontificating. Likely targets Maata at 12, then we'll try to trade up from 21 for Girgensons. But I really like Kevin Allen's mock: Grigorenko at 12, Slater Koekkoek at 21. There are so many players I like in the top 20 and quite a few I like who are ranked further down that I see as sleepers. Unless we reach badly, I figure on going to bed happy with our picks.
LGR4GM Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I am going Faksa (our 1st plus a 2nd to trade up and get him) and Pearson with the 21st pick. I am going to Jersey so I wont get to watch the draft, hopefully the Sabres make something happen.

True, but they are just following the MLB who aired their 1st Round out of 30 or so rounds on their Network. Only the 1st Round is getting any real attention from the media, 2-7 are on NHL Network which is their channel.

deluca67 Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 If the Sabres walk away from the first round drafting at #12 and #21 it will be a huge disappointment.
Lanny Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Assuming Faksa and Teravainen are gone at #12 I'd like to see them pass up on D and take Girgensons. At #21 I'd prefer Gaunce, Laughton or Jankowski, but think that if Wilson is there he's who they will pick.
Eleven Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 If the Sabres walk away from the first round drafting at #12 and #21 it will be a huge disappointment. Yes it will.
OverPowerYou Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 If the Sabres walk away from the first round drafting at #12 and #21 it will be a huge disappointment. If Darcy said he won't move up because he doesn't like the prospects this year, why would he be content with picking two middle round players? What will end up Happening is we will trade for some old veteran who can't play anymore and then some 3rd line center from a crappy team and Darcy will try and convince the team that we are better then last year. When will management realize we need a superstar, not just a team full of 3rd liners and average players? The Bills finally figured this out (see: Mario Williams)
Sabre Dance Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I kinda feel like too much exposure has been given to the NHL draft. Agreed - I only really watch to see if any trades are being made. That's where the real interest is to me. The rest, as you state, is a crap shoot. Oh, one more thing - boys, when you are picked in the first round by a team, PLEASE don't spend ten minutes hugging relatives and friends! Hug Dad, kiss Mom and go put on the jersey. You can hug cousin Milo later...
Lanny Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 If Darcy said he won't move up because he doesn't like the prospects this year, why would he be content with picking two middle round players? He didn't say that. Devine said something along the lines of there not being consensus top players and the dropoff between 1-20 not being that great this year. So to have to spend both picks to move up to get a guy top 5 who might either be there at #12 or as good as the guy they'll get at #12 doesn't make sense.

I think half the fun of being a fan is pontificating about things you don't know a ton about. The entire NHL season is a crapshoot, yet most people still have opinions on how things will play out and what teams will do this or that, based on information which isn't any better than reading some scouting reports. If the Sabres walk away from the first round drafting at #12 and #21 it will be a huge disappointment. Yes it will. I think it depends how things play out. If one of the big names (Staal, Ryan, Nash) get moved for a package that the Sabres could have matched without entirely gutting the organization or a very good 3rd line center gets moved for a middle pick and prospect, then yes, that will be cause for disappointment and/or frustration. On the other hand, I have no interest in trading every valuable asset the Sabres have for a single player. Maybe we can improve the team and still use both first round picks? We do have roster players and NHL-ready prospects to trade. I don't think that would be the worst thing in the world.
Lanny Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Dreger Tweet: "Hoping this isn't the case, but could be quiet day on trade front. Not many top end guys avail and too many teams involved."
sabres1970 Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Dreger Tweet: "Hoping this isn't the case, but could be quiet day on trade front. Not many top end guys avail and too many teams involved." It'll break eventually. This draft is not all that promising after Yakupov and Murray (maybe I'm wrong on that, not an expert, but that's what it seems like). Teams will get desperate. Especially because the UFA market isn't awesome either.
carpandean Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 If the Sabres walk away from the first round drafting at #12 and #21 it will be a huge disappointment. Generally, I agree, unless Galchenyuk's injury/Russian blood somehow causes him to fall to #12 and the Sabres take him. Don't see it happening, but you never know. Not crazy about most Russians, but the kid is American born, will play for America internationally, and is (likely) going to be a very good center with a very complete game. After that, there are some players that should be available at #21 that would be nice to have in the system. I'd at least wait until 7/2 before any disappointment started creeping in under that scenario.

I get the name thing but I think the chances of this kid bolting to the K.H.L. are slim if he's American. I don't see the risk others have alluded to.

He was born in Milwaukee while his father was playing there, but mostly lived in Russia until he was 16 and came over to play in Juniors here. Not that different from Yakupov or Grigorenko.

It will be frustrating if some other team makes a move that the Sabres could have made. It will be disappointing if no move is made, regardless of whether another team makes a move that the Sabres could have made. Not as in "I'm disappointed in Regier," but just disappointed.
apuszczalowski Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 If the Sabres walk away from the first round drafting at #12 and #21 it will be a huge disappointment. You Disapointed? That never happens...................
TrueBlueGED Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Never knew he was american born. Why do people refer to him as Russian? I get the name thing but I think the chances of this kid bolting to the K.H.L. are slim if he's American. I don't see the risk others have alluded to. Not to mentioned he committed to the US international program (could have gone with Russia or US, went with US). I see zero risk in him leaving. Even Grigorenko....Dmitri Chesnokov (Yahoo's Russian hockey writer) said there has been zero interest from KHL teams in making a pitch, nor does he expect there to be. This stuff is oberblown. It will be frustrating if some other team makes a move that the Sabres could have made. It will be disappointing if no move is made, regardless of whether another team makes a move that the Sabres could have made. Not as in "I'm disappointed in Regier," but just disappointed. Got ya, and I mostly agree...but I'll wait to see any particular moves before I decide whether the Sabres should have done it, since I don't necessarily believe any move they can make they should make, if that makes sense.
sabres13 Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I believe Buffalo is going to make a good trade today with their 21st, 2nd rounders and some core player. Also they are going to pick Radek Faksa at 12th or move up a little higher just to get him. By the end of day Mcnabb, Roy, Sekera and possibly Stafford with be gone.
