I liked the Devils' player's response - he grabbed Briere's stick and took it with him to the bench.

It's not like he'll be needing it any time soon.

The Isles haven't been close to the cap, might I say, never. They've always got 14-18 million in space.

Which means they're one of the teams fighting to stay above the floor. They're not going to do anything to remove his cap hit.

Good points, it won't really help the Isles that they get in-season cap relief. The Flyers, on the other hand, would probably love to be able to get some relief for Bryzgalov's contract. I'm sure they'll be one of the teams begging for an amnesty clause.

And this was always the unknown. People wanted to put ALL their eggs in a guy's basket with all world talent and a debatable attitude. People want to run Stafford out of here for a similar combo. You can't control how a player decides the play in the future. If AK has decided to step up then good for him, he could have easily just mailed it in and took the money.

If you are going to put your eggs in one basket, a basket that can hold 400 eggs (goals) is a pretty good basket to put them in.

I'm not going to respond beyond this to the Stafford comparison, Kovalchuk is a HOF talent, Stafford cashed in on a 35 game hot streak. It's really a bit of an insult to the game to include Stafford in any comparison to a quality talent.

Well that was quick. I think there's a weird stat floating around that Lundqvist has yet to allow a goal when the Rangers are down 1 in these playoffs. And Hunter Hockey dictates that a 1 goal lead means immediate Alamo mode...will be interesting to see what happens from here.

I think the problem is you don't want guys that talented to play well, you want them to be great. And great, they have not been.

Coming off the seasons both have had I will guess Cap fans are happy with the turnaround. Other that that I will agree.

Yea I doubt there's many complaints at the moment...unless they lose the series. It's like they can't find a happy balance as a team...last year they were exciting and lost in the second round because they couldn't stop pucks from going in the net at any point during the game, this year they're boring and might lose because they can't stop pucks from going in the net at the end of games.

If Ovechkin would just head-fake that cut to the middle and continue outside, he'd probably blow by defensemen every time. But he doesn't, he always actually goes for the cut, which every defenseman in the league knows he's going to at this point and they just play his body and take him down or knock the puck off his stick. He needs to adapt his game.

He does seem quite predictable.

Gotta love playoff game 7s. I think the Rangers will be able to win it, especially if they come out with a lot of intensity early and can grab a lead. But they're really playing with fire here; if they can't put the Caps down early, I can definitely see an upset coming.

The Devils have to be happy to see the Caps and Rangers go 7. Philly certainly looked like they were feeling the effects of the Pens series and surely the winner of the Caps/Rangers will be a little more worse for wear.

If I see the devils and/or coyotes in the finals I will be more than tempted not to watch Any of it.

I actually think the Devils are fairly entertaining until they get a 2 goal lead, then it's still trap city. But hey, at least with them there's a chance for entertaining hockey for part of the game!

And the highest scoring team remaining in the playoffs? You guessed it, New Jersey.

Problem is that Game 7s rarely live up to the hype.. One team seems to have it and the other doesn't. My money is on Holtby.

You're exactly right. All of the game 7's even in the finals were all but over after 2 periods.

I really hate how refs swallow their whistles on everything...except the over the glass delay of game. Let blatant hooks, slashes, obstructions go...but that accidental puck over the glass, that's automatic baby! :wallbash:

I love that penalty. No subjectivity.
