deluca67 Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Hard to understand why the Preds gave up a first round pick for Goose, but didn't use him for any important faceoffs during the third period. Legwand took and lost most of the importnat draws. And, of course, the Preds gave up picks for A. Kostitsyn but didn't dress him. Odd.... IMO, they overpaid to keep him from being a Red Wing.
OverPowerYou Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 I wouldn't mind seeing Phoenix prosper in this league. The only part that bothers me is the fact that they have no owner.

deluca67 Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 theyll get one though. I hope so. As much as I would like to see a team back in Quebec, I would hate to see more fans lose their team. Phoenix may not be a hockey hotbed, that doesn't mean there aren't real hockey fans in Phoenix.
Iron Crotch Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 I wouldn't mind seeing Phoenix prosper in this league. The only part that bothers me is the fact that they have no owner. They've lost over $5 million per year every year since moving to Phoenix is 1996. They were several million dollars in the hole when they filed for bankruptcy in 2009. There is a reason they have no owner... The team is unsustainable in Glendale and all would-be owners know that. To buy the team is to basically acquire a ton of debt. The big question is where will the team move to??? http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/more-mixed-messages-phoenix-coyotes-ownership-future-202247926.html

Watched the game on TV and decided it would be cool to get tickets for Monday to see the Yotes close this out and many seats of the lower bowl is available for tickets. Upper level appears to be sold out. One my drive home I'll put on the local sports shows and most of the talk is Cards and Dbacks and it's like the yotes don't exist. I get high school sports and then "in other news...coyotes win a playoff game". Phoenix is like Atlanta. The yotes will leave to a (hopefully) Canadian city and the NHL will again shoehorn a team here like Atlanta only to see it move on again.

Legwand took and lost most of the importnat draws. And, of course, the Preds gave up picks for A. Kostitsyn but didn't dress him. Odd.... What's odd about it? Gaustad is a defensive forward. Yes, he wins the majority of his faceoffs, but you're playing a man down after winning the draw having Gaustad try to sprint to the bench to get Legwand onto the ice. If the game was tied or the Preds in the lead, you'd've seen much more of the Goose. I hope so. As much as I would like to see a team back in Quebec, I would hate to see more fans lose their team. Phoenix may not be a hockey hotbed, that doesn't mean there aren't real hockey fans in Phoenix. I definitely don't want to see another city lose it's team. And Jeanbe is proof there's at least 1 hockey fan in Phoenix. There's probably even a couple more and if the team has a couple of seasons of post-season success that could actually grow. Living in Phoenix and loving hockey I agree with this. Atlanta in 19 seasons never won a playoff series (as the Flames and as the Thrashers). In their entire history, the Jets / Yotes had 2 playoff series wins heading into this season, neither of which was within 10 seasons of the Jets moving to the desert. So both teams were trying to draw fans in non-traditional markets with NO on-ice success to speak of. You don't create fan bases out of nothing when you don't have a competitive product. Both cities have had seriously screwed up ownership. Denver had a similar situation with their 1st go at it. When they got a 'reasonable' team in their 2nd go around, the region caught the NHL fever. There was NONE for the Rockies, nor should there have been. That team was pathetic.
shrader Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 I think this explains it pretty well. http://sports.yahoo....-211640021.html I don't trust a word Medvedev says. It's funny that all of his comments are based off of Radulov honoring his contract, which is exactly what he didn't do in Nashville.
spndnchz Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Cool way to watch the game online. 3 different cameras to choose from with rewind etc... http://hqplayer.nbcsports.com/Player.html?PID=64&referrer=http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/

Certainly was not because of lack of not trying. charging penalty. just saying rule application need be understandable and consistent... He got his 2 min penalty and that is all that is deserved. The NHL's witch hunt needs to end. I know OV and Semin have taken a lot of heat and it has been well earned at times. Right now each is playing well and seem really focused with an added intensity to their game.
deluca67 Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 I'll be routing for the Devils today, a win puts them in position for the big upset.
rbochan Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 "After four games (actually almost five in playing time) have produced a total margin of five goals, it's increasingly clear that there isn't enough difference in talent between the Capitals and Rangers to decide this series. So the officials are stepping up..." http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opinion/stanleycup2012/2012/05/rangers-mum-on-officiating-in-game-4.html
OverPowerYou Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 So the Blues are playing the Kings on NBC this afternoon. It's incredibly rare that a team not named the Rangers, Flyers, Penguins, Capitals, Bruins, Red Wings, Blackhawks plays on NBC, let alone two at a time. I thought the NHL hated non-original six/hockey market teams? I honestly think Western Conferece playoff series involving non-traditional Hockey markets produce the most exciting games - teams like LA, Nashville, San Jose, St. Louis... NBC and NHL need to realize there are huge hockey fans in the west as well, and people do care about them even though they're not from a huge east coast city.
darksabre Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 And LA sweeps St Louis. Guess Hitchcock isn't such a miracle worker after all.
TrueBlueGED Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 And LA sweeps St Louis. Guess Hitchcock isn't such a miracle worker after all. And Brian Elliott started playing like Brian Elliott. But who needs a top notch goaltender, right?
wjag Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Hard not to admire what the Kings are doing and think that this late coming together of the team is just what we all thought might happen in Buffalo... I'll be routing for the Devils today, a win puts them in position for the big upset. Giroux with his second and a shorty,,, Not looking good for the Devils early...

Giroux with his second and a shorty,,, Not looking good for the Devils early... Depending on what happens with the Caps, could say the same about them. And I have zero confidence in Philly's ability to hold a lead. With Bryzgalov in net, no lead is safe.

TrueBlueGED Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 I wish my hockey pool predictions were as accurate as my "Philly coughing up leads" prediction.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 And LA sweeps St Louis. Guess Hitchcock isn't such a miracle worker after all. Yeah, he only lost to another coach hired mid-season for a floundering team......... ;)
TrueBlueGED Posted May 7, 2012 Report Posted May 7, 2012 Well, that play isn't going to be on Briere's highlight reel.
