Trettioåtta Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 :( Brown with 9 points in 7 games! I think he is lost to me now :'( The west seems to have much wider games than the east, both in scoring and it series leads. Weird. I hope a western team wins the cup, i would not mind the Preds, Yotes or Kings winning it
shrader Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Kings Coyotes sounds good to me. Hope I didn't just jinx them. From a purely selfish point of view, those are the last two teams I want to win. It leads to more late starting times. I bet those are completely fine with you though. :D
TrueBlueGED Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 There was a lot of crying going on last round, crying about more than just those two hits. If a little more boring hockey is what it takes to silence that, then I guess that's a good thing, right? I fundamentally reject the idea that hockey has to be boring to eliminate the dirtball hits.

The intermission is the only natural shut off point for the games.
SwampD Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 I fundamentally reject the idea that hockey has to be boring to eliminate the dirtball hits. Me too, but there was a lot,.. A LOT, of complaining about hits that were clean, as well as the, let's call it "gamesmanship" that took place in the first round that to me just looked like some good Playoff hockey (it really is different than regular season hockey). ...that's a horrible sentence but get my drift.

The problem is that when there is so much of the bad, it taints the good. What Torres did was despicable. And that kind of action calls everything else into question. Look at it this way: One NBA Ref admits to fixing games, it follows that every marginal call by every other ref in that league would be suspect for a while.
millbank Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 http://predators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=630266&navid=DL|NSH|home two Nashville players suspended for violating team rules.... Radulov and Kostitsyn

I think the primary reason for it was the NHL. Fan bases of the teams involved in a specific incident are always going to battle over it and have skewed views...but when just about everyone is left debating if a hit was clean, if there should be a suspension, etc....that's a clear indication to me that the NHL has failed miserably to clearly define what is, and what is not, legal. Another factor is that a lot of this stuff happened in probably the most highly visible series (Pens-Flyers) for casual fans, so coverage and everything got ramped up. Lastly, I think the fact that every game is nationally televised and ratings are the highest ever also has something to do with it. More people watching more games, social media, youtube clips 5 minutes after something happens. There's fewer games overall, but they're all on TV...each game means significantly more than the regular season, combined with hyper-attentive coverage results in "more whining". Assuming the NHL continues to grow I'd only expect this to get worse in the future, and will really only be mitigated by the NHL fixing its enforcement. http://predators.nhl...vid=DL|NSH|home two Nashville players suspended for violating team rules.... Radulov and Kostitsyn Strangely, I think this may actually help the Preds. Remove two of their better offensive players and they may have to start playing more lockdown defense. It's certainly not the only reason, but a good part of the reason the Preds are down 2-0 is they're leaving Rinne hanging out to dry an awful lot.

Hockey at Noon says reason players suspended is because of curfew violation.... not very bright on their part
shrader Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 Hockey at Noon says reason players suspended is because of curfew violation.... not very bright on their part Two of their bigger "deadline" additions this year. I wonder how they feel about those moves now after having to deal with idiocy like this. And it's funny. Nashville has been influenced quite a bit by the US college system. Nearly the entire front office spent time at that level. Now with suspensions due to curfew violations, they really do resemble a college program.
millbank Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 much talk about Ovechkin last evening play a career low amount of time. Hunter choosing to use both Semin and Ovechkin far less and thus far having great success. Thus far Hunter's after game comments have been that Ovechkin better used this way to be fresh for use on power plays, (evidenced thus far shows this to be true and most successful) also that Ovechkin a team guy, onside with team concept where more defensive inclined players used when defense needed. It said Hunter cares only about the present, it not clear he will return for next season thus could not care about players sensitivities. .... He and brother had a excellent thing going with London Knights. Knights currently in OHA championship series . This team has been excellent for over a decade. These guys good hockey people. Getting Capitals into final eight quite a accomplishment.
darksabre Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 It took until the 18:30 mark in the second for Philly to get its first shot of that period.
TrueBlueGED Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 It took until the 18:30 mark in the second for Philly to get its first shot of that period. Even better was Pierre, at around the 12 minute mark, going on about how they were controlling play and the Devils had to pick up the pace to compete. Glad he's on the broadcast
Fire Lindy Ruff NOW Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 wheres the phoenix game? aw its on tomorrow? lame.
TrueBlueGED Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Hugely impressive game by the Devils tonight. They're just beating the crap out of the Flyers in pretty much every aspect of the game.
Fire Lindy Ruff NOW Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 Hugely impressive game by the Devils tonight. They're just beating the crap out of the Flyers in pretty much every aspect of the game. only in the third period dude. philly was up 1-0 the whole game.
millbank Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 only in the third period dude. philly was up 1-0 the whole game. New Jersey out shot them 35 - 20.
darksabre Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 New Jersey out shot them 35 - 20. Yup. New Jersey won this game through solid effort. Bryz was the only thing keeping the Flyers in it. Philly barely had a shot on goal in the whole second. Hard to win games that way.
millbank Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 A little more on suspended Nashville players. Turns out they both were out a bar at 4:00 am night before game. Bar 1 hr away from team location. Interesting to read former players tweets on matter. Modano on twitter, "you guys got all summer to party and get drunk, I am sure your team mates are thrilled."
