I hate this, but there is someone counting on me being sharp tomorrow at 930. So I can't watch 2OT. Sux. I assume that I'll find out here how it went. Either the board will be covered in the residue of DeLuca/Kovy conjugation, or not.

Remember back in the day, Wayne Gretzky called New Jersey a mickey mouse organization, tonight they into seventh game overtime a loss and rats will rain down...

Well.... that stinks.

EDIT:

Nevermind. All Florida fans are fairweather. The millisecond that puck crossed the line 15,000 people jetted out of there and a few hundred stayed to salute their team.

why the hate for Brodeur..?

Just can't stand him. He look arrogant when he's giving interview and when he laugh, it's like he's mocking the other team.

Thus confirming that the NHL is fixed. The four teams from the most populous corridor in the east have all made it to the second round,...

got to rip a players guts out to lose such a game , just as it would be greatly exciting to win. Talk about highs and lows. Being goalie in overtime has to be amongst the toughest of positions in all of sport.

For me, the NHL has been fixed since that Bret Hull goal.

Oh, and wasn't there some sort of bet with someone about the Devils w/ Kovy winning a playoff series before the Sabres or Bills? Don't remember who had whom, but I seem to remember something like that.

There's just no place on the Sabres for a 40 goal scorer.

2-5? Who lost? The Luongo/Schneider combo? Quick is elite, unless you're only looking at contract...but he's going to sign a whopper of an extension. Rinne is elite, and beat Howard. The only non-elite winner was Elliot/Halak, but they beat another non-elite in Niemi. I suppose you could say Smith has had an elite season, but I need to see more than 1 to proclaim him elite. Plus, he beat Crawford, who is bad.

Taro's interpretation was correct. Smith, Rinne, Elliot, and Quick have all been elite this season. I'm actually not sure whether or not to count Elliot because I haven't really seen much of the Blues, but his numbers were absurd this year.

Florida losing was a little disappointing, but then I remembered that New Jersey has to play Philly. Jersey and Philly. Those two just deserve each other.

why the hate for Brodeur..?

He played behind an excellent defensive team which played trap and was always seen as the 2nd best goalie to Roy whereas Hasek played behind some shaky Sabres teams and set multiple league records and was always seen as 3rd string. My reason is just bitterness. Yet still it's heresy to say he should retire because his about as good a goaltender as Mason now.

theodore and clemmensen played pretty good actually...

True, Theodore does seem to be one of the better clutch goaltenders.

You mean "There's just no place on the Sabres for a 400 goal scorer."

Great game last night and great series. It will be interesting to see what Florida does this off-season.

They played okay. Arguably no better than the Brodeur Hedberg combo this year. But when it's on the line, Brodeur got it done. It's not surprising.

Well let's see if my round 2 predictions can be any less terrible than my round 1 predictions.

Rangers over Caps in 7

--I'm still not sold on the Rangers, but I'm not exactly a Caps believer either right now. I do think at some point home ice advantage is going to mean something in these playoffs. The Caps had a .400 winning percentage on the road in the regular season, so I'm inclined to believe beating Boston was somewhat of an anomaly. That being said I think this series is a virtual coin flip and if the Caps pull it off I wouldn't be surprised at all. But I'll put my money on Lundqvist out-playing Holtby enough to get the Rangers the win.

Flyers over Devils in 6

--I think Philly might be overrated right now having come off a series where they comfortably beat a very popular Cup pick. Bryzgalov is very vulnerable and I think the Devils have enough offense to exploit him to squeeze out a couple wins. Despite that, I don't think the Devils have the defense to contend with Philly's forwards. If Brodeur were 6 years younger I could see this going the other way, but I can't picture him stealing a series at 39.

LA over St. Louis in 6

--LA may be overrated because of what they did to Vancouver, but I like their overall roster more than the Blues. Both teams are going to struggle to score, but I think the Kings have more offensive potential and that's going to show over the course of the series.

Nashville over Phoenix in 5

--I was thoroughly impressed the way the Preds handled Detroit, and while I expect much of the same in this series, although Mike Smith may prove more challenging to score on than Howard did.

I say...

Caps over Rangers in 7. The Rangers are a great team, but they struggled to put down the Senators, and Lundqvist was good, but not great throughout the series. Meanwhile, Holtby virtually stole the series vs Boston, but also got enough goal-support from his offense to take down the defending champions. I think Capitals sneak away with this one.

Flyers over Devils in 5. Not to discredit the Devils any, but Philly manhandling Pittsburgh for much of Round 1 was all I needed to see. You have to think the Flyers are a superior team.

Kings over Blues in 7. Had an incredibly hard time picking a winner here. Partially because I just don't see enough Kings or Blues game throughout the season to make a prediction based on anything more than how they played Round 1, but knocking off the 'Nucks can't be taken likely, and the Blues were impressive in their own right, eliminating the Sharks and perhaps drilling the final nail into Joe Thornton's career w/ San Jose. I had to go with the Kings. Both teams have great goaltending, but I think LA's offense is a little more dangerous.

Predators over Coyotes in 7. Another tough one. Rinne is a Vezina finalist, while Mike Smith has been one of the best stories of the season with how well he's played. Not many flashy guys on either team's roster, but both managed to knock off perennial cup contenders in Detroit and Chicago, so no one can question whether or not they have what it takes to win the series. I'm torn on this one, but I'll just say Nashville because of Gaustad.
