Weave Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Whoozyer money on tonight? I see NJ and Ott moving on. It pains me to say that I see Ott in the next round. There is only one player in this league that I truly cannot stand to watch on the ice, Chris Neil. Seeing that thug remove yet another player that I actually want to watch play adds more weight to my distaste for this guy. Nonetheless, it just seems to me that Ottawa has NY tonight. Nothing concrete to base it on, just a gut feeling. Anyone else with not so bold predicitions?

dEnnis the Menace Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 I really don't like Ottawa, but I also really don't like the Rangers. I have been just 'meh' in regards to my feelings on who wins, but the girlfriend is a Sens fan, so it would make my life better if they win tonight B-)

Therefore, I predict them to win starting a new 2 week period of whining by their fans. :wallbash:
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 shes a sens fan? how did that happen? She's from Binghamton, watched a lot of the players grow up thru the system. She goes up to Ottawa for one game a year. I can't explain it any other way, but it's fun to have a significant other who doesn't always root for the same team...makes for fun competition.

If there is one thing I've found out from engineering, there's not a whole lot that's random in this world...just stupid lol EDIT: not that I'm saying my girlfriend is stupid...just that people do things that are dumb haha! just wanted to clarify. She at least roots for the Sabres anytime they are not playing the Sens. her hatred for the Leafs though rivals mine, which is impressive.

BlueNGold Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 But he has Ovi so that makes the comparison fair, one star player each. In fact the Caps are a more skilled team than the 99 Sabres. If you want to compare Ruff against other coaches it is best to start with the year after Hasek left for accuracy sake. This is very true IMHO. In regards to Ovechkin, great great Talent, but thus far in his career he has had nowhere the impact that Hasek had. Plus a goalie in general is Way more important than a forward. And in regards to the comment about the 99 team having little talent. That is correct but says A LOT more about Hasek, than it does about Ruff. Lindy was just riding the wave.

Fun fact - Ottawa has also never won a game 7 since they came back into the league She's from Binghamton, watched a lot of the players grow up thru the system. My Fiancee is a Leafs fan, her family is split with Leafs and Habs fans, its alot of fun being fans of different teams, but its more fun when your team is doing better then theres

Both teams have/had one of the top players in the league playing for them, regardless of position. hasek couldn't do it all, he could hold them into a low scoring game, but he couldn't score the goals for them, and did let in the occasional goal or 2 a game........ Which I have yet to experience haha  :( You weren't with her last season?

TrueBlueGED Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Are you suggesting that if Leino played more his numbers would be better? I think the 15:55 and 75 of pp time was more than enough evidence to prove that it just isn't so. Versteeg is a better player than Leino hands down. It's really not even close. And to say that a player like Versteeg wouldn't greatly improve the Sabres, especially in place of the complete waste of a roster spot in Leino is curious to say the least. Hunter is doing it without Hasek. If you want to compare Ruff against other coaches it is best to start with the year after Hasek left for accuracy sake. Versteeg is far more consistent than Stafford. I see Versteeg as a difference maker, Stafford is just another player, IMO. The Hasek argument is so terrible. Just awful. Unless of course you're willing to concede that coaching is completely overrated. Go through every Stanley Cup winning coach in history, and I can rip away the generational talent on his team and he probably doesn't win a Cup. Coaches need great players to be successful. How in the world can you discount a coach's success because he had great players? It's a necessary condition! And you are severely overrating Versteeg. At even strength he had 1.9 P/60 (points per 60 minutes of ice time) 1st on his team, at 5v4 he had 3.64 P/60, 7th on his team. On the Sabres those exact stats (and again, I doubt he gets the same ice time here) he would have been 7th on the team in P/60 at even strength and 8th for 5v4 P/60, just behind the esteemed Brad Boyes. Would he have been better than Leino? Yes. Would he have been a difference maker that made the Sabres significantly better? No. I'm also surprised to see you love a player so much who had 54 hits on a season :P Lastly...of course Leino would have produced more if he played more. It's a relatively pointless argument since he didn't earn more playing time...but yes, he would have had better numbers and to argue otherwise is silly. Whoozyer money on tonight? Nothing concrete to base it on, just a gut feeling. Anyone else with not so bold predicitions? I'm going to go with the Rangers and Devils. Ottawa seemed to become really rattled and unglued in game 6. Will that carry over to game 7? I have no idea. It may work the opposite since all the pressure is on the top seed Rangers to close it out at home. But I still think the Rangers are the better team and I'll take Lundqvist all day over Anderson, even though the latter has been fantastic. Plus if the Rangers get a lead, the way they line 4 guys up on the blue line is just making it almost impossible for Ottawa to generate quality scoring chances (not to mention almost impossible for me to enjoy the game). As far as the Devils go, I flipped a coin and they won. At the end of the day they just generate more offensive pressure and I don't feel comfortable counting on Clemmensen to keep the door shut.

I am a little surprised they were so close to getting knocked out, but it made for one heck of a wagering opportunity the other night. I am pretty confident in them tonight, but they are -170 as opposed to the gift of -105 the other night. The only team that really surprised me was Boston. Pitt was a lot like the Sabres.....they went parabolic and just started to crumble back down to earth. Vancouver was a surprise as well, but LA is a really nice team with balanced talent. I would like to see LA or Phoenix make it out west.

darksabre Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 right on. Whatever it takes to keep Chris Neil from winning anything ever.

Should have listened to my analysis of their fundamental problems instead of only looking at their chart! :P I'll personally vomit if an NHL-owned franchise, which nobody wants to own and keep in Phoenix, makes it to the Cup. I could get behind LA because I really like Brown, Kopitar, Doughty and Quick...but having Richards and Carter almost makes them Philly-west to me, which I have a hard time rooting for. Maybe those aren't the best reasons for cheering against a team, but that's what it is for me. Actually, come to think of it, I dislike every team remaining in the West because of players, play style, or ownership.....uh, go East?

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Actually, the chart did it's job. Game 3 and 6 coming off the loss, as an underdog or pick'em..........Game 6 was even bigger because of 2 losses. Phoenix is pretty much like the late 90's Sabres. Good effort, roll a bunch of defensive responsible lines with a little bit of offensive pop, and great goaltending. Worst thing about it is there is no way Doan will walk if they keep going. Stoll may drive his price up in LA as well.
