Eleven Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 How does everyone feel about the hit by Neil in the Ottawa New york game tonight ? He'll get away with it. He always does.
Kristian Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 He'll get away with it. He always does. Just like Mike Richards always gets away with whatever cheap crap he decides to pull.
deluca67 Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Going by the standings, the Sabres are a hell of a lot closer to the Sens and Caps than those teams are to the Rangers and Bruins. And yet the significantly worse teams (by the standings) are winning. And I fail to see your point on the hits. The Rangers are out-hitting the crap out of Ottawa....and losing. The Sens are out hitting the Rangers 169-167, and are winning. The Sens are a team that is stepping up it's physical play. I've gained a great deal of respect for the Sens teams watching them this series. The Sens could have folded when Alfredsson was injured and didn't. Not to mention the job Anderson is doing. Watching Anderson and Holtby brings a smile to my face as I think back to all the Miller discussions.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Whatever. If Hossa didn't have a glass jaw it would only have been two minutes. I'll say it again, 25 games is ridiculous. No its not Torres is a guy that will never learn........I hope he never plays in the NHL again.
deluca67 Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 No its not Torres is a guy that will never learn........I hope he never plays in the NHL again. I have to wonder, how much of the anger directed at Torres has to do with his stint here in Buffalo? How does everyone feel about the hit by Neil in the Ottawa New york game tonight ? The Neil hit was fine. The penalty against Rupp for charging was a complete joke. There is definitely a heightened sensitivity by officials when it comes to strong physical plays. There have been a great number of hits recently that should not and would not have been called earlier in the playoffs. It's like the game is being Lindy-fied.

Maybe they should just have robots play the game, like in the Jetsons. That way, nobody would get hurt. Although, I'm sure some Violence Against Robots (or are they called synthetic people, not sure what's PC these days) supporter would come on complaining about illegal hits to the CPU.
Taro T Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 The Raffi suspension is great. Look at the NFL. If you do something crazy and get suspended for two games, that's 12.5% of a regular season. 25 games of an 82 game season is 30%. When you put in "potential" playoff games it almost evens out. I think the NHL could learn from this. If When future suspensions inevitably don't align with this precedent I will be disappointed. Fixed.

I've been looking forward to Philly/Pitt game #6 since the final horn of game #5. I hope the officials stay out of it. Some of the calls the past couple of games have been horrendous. The game misconduct to Zac Rinaldo was one of the worst calls all post-season. Malkin got two minutes for knocking down a Flyer Dman around the net, two minutes for being bigger and stronger? Goals, off-sides and icing should be the only calls the officials should be focused on. Let the players play and dictate the outcome of the game. Not the cries of those with no stomach for the more physical aspects of the game.

Weave Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 How does everyone feel about the hit by Neil in the Ottawa New york game tonight ? I only saw a replay of it while I was in a crowded bar. My initial reaction was clean hit. Unlike the Torres hit, Boyle was actually playing the puck at the time of impact and Neil didn't leave his feet to make the hit. Was there even any contact with Boyle's head? And it is pissing me off that Ottawa may move on. Every game I see Konopka play this post season the more valuable to me he becomes. I think Ottawa re-signs him now. We need a player like Zenon Konopka.
millbank Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=629080 Apart from him not leaving his feet hit and he not having a past history, this hit not much different than Torres hit. Boyle did end up with concussion.... just saying appearances, not that i think he should get a suspension, but if league is going to be consistent don't see how this not a suspension as well. Cannot be a muddy grey area, hits to head need be suspensions or process becomes almost a personality contest rather than one of right and wrong. yikes 12:00 noon and its time for hockey , got to be tough if you live on the west coast and have games on for breakfast.....
carpandean Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Apart from him not leaving his feet hit and he not having a past history, this hit not much different than Torres hit. But those are two of the main factors in Torres' suspension. Another is that the puck was long gone, which also wasn't the case here. That really only leaves principle contact being to the head (which I can't tell if it actually was) and the resulting injury. Neil's hit was perfectly clean as recently as last year, while Torres' hit hasn't been clean for decades.

Breakfast with the playoffs would be awesome! Neil targeted Boyle's head, and I can't be convinced otherwise. And the only reason he has no past history is because the league has consistently looked away when he's done this. I have no idea why.

I ok , I am aware at being alone, just did not see two hits as being a great deal differently. If hit had been reversed is suspect, Torres gets suspension for same hit Neal dished out. Interesting watching Don Cherry last night, he showing Torres past hits and the present one, this certainly did make the point strongly the justice in Torres suspension. Frankly was surprised even Cherry on side with suspension. Hit on Crosby, seconds later 32 seconds in 1- 0 Flyers......

deluca67 Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 What a start by Giroux, big hit on Crosby and a big goal early.

Remember back in the day as University student out West, following sporting events football, baseball, hockey ect. many starting early morning, very different experience for a east coast person.
deluca67 Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Ten minutes in and teams combined for 7 shots and 15 hits,
millbank Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 the toll of such a hard hitting series has to come into play as teams continue on further into playoffs. 2-0 bad guys? good guys? admit to just watching have not found team to root for. Surprised at Ottawa's play and do find them much more likeable. Strange always could not stand them...

The confidence level will be high.

TheChimp Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 How does everyone feel about the hit by Neil in the Ottawa New york game tonight ? Hate it. The difference in a half-second is what separates Neil's hit from Torres. The intent was exactly the same. Take advantage of a guy who just got rid of the puck and isn't braced for a hit and hit him high. But because someone's gonna say that Boyle was without the puck for a full half-second longer than Hossa was, the whole league is going to justify Neil targeting him for an ambush hit, and then they'll act all pious and start admonishing everyone about the value of "keeping your head up" and a myriad other bully statements. I love hitting in hockey. What I hate is the sheer lack of gamesmanship by the players and integrity of the front office.
