mistake at end of Bruin - Capital game gave Bruins 5 extra seconds. Imagine the fuss had they scored. Apparently game clock did not start at 9.5 seconds remaining, finally was started at 4.

I wish the tiebreaker foe playoff seeds was head to head matchups. We would definitely be doing better than Washington and Ottawa right now. Well, with a healthy Myers anf Ehrhoff that is.

I got the impression Sabre Dance was talking about recently, but if he was talking historically, then yes, you'd be correct.

In other news, the Caps look like a different team without Backstrom. Out-shot 10-1....although their one did go in.

Historically, you mean that 66-55-10 record the Sabres have all time against Ottawa? And that 12-7 record against them in the playoffs (3 series victories vs. 1 loss)? That's just as historical as ignoring the last two years against them.

Anyway, two consecutive nights without a suspendable hit? I never thought I'd see that this postseason.

Another sign of the Maya Apocalypse.

One day after I saw someone making a Lady Byng argument for Matt Cooke (which actually made sense). I think you're right.

Maybe the individual hit was worse, I'd grant that. But he's still a Norris-winning defenseman and all-star....Raffie Torres has a history of repeated head shots and is nothing more than a role player. Keith's hit may have been worse, but considering Torres' history I don't think they belong in the same conversation of dirtball.

Insanely.

Keith has a history, he just didn't get suspended. HNIC showed him losing it like he did on Sedin, retaliating but he got off cuz they didn't have the current headshot rule.

The Hawks are notorious for whining and also employ one Carcillo too. Torres plays on the edge but his hit on Hossa was way less dirty than Keith.

Fair enough. Screw Ottawa, I feel so dirty cheering for them against the Rangers. Hopefully they don't end up facing a team I hate even more in round 2, I don't want to cheer for them anymore.

Marleau came close to delivering a suspendable hit last night--if the guy he hit was maybe a half step closer to the glass it would have been boarding, and possibly suspendable.

The Rags have one thing going for them which would make me pull for them. Even if he has a ridiculously minor role, I want to see Marty Biron win.

Toews and his crew are one hypocritical group. I'm sorry but the Torres hit was a fraction away from perfection. To listen to the Hawks whine about Torres, you would think that they didn't have Duncan Keith on their team.

You know, the same guy who visciOusly elbowed Daniel Sedin cuz he was mad he got hit.

The Hawks sicken me from their coach down. Although I do like Hossa.

But to me, what Keith did was way worse than what Raffi did.

I agree it's hypocritical and every team looks the other way when it's one of their guys playing dirty (Chicago has Carcillo for crying out loud! Was there any Sabre last year that didn't get speared in the nuts by him in Round 1?). My point wasn't to show the hypocrisy, but to highlight that thanks to the league's horribly inconsistent way of dishing out discipline, players don't know what is suspendable any more than we do.

It happened 3 yrs ago. Bos vs philly

Right ... that's the "team ... as in one". He said "teams" had done it in recent years, implying more than one, which is only true if he counts 1975 as recent. Philly is the only one to have done it in recent years.

Edit: I suppose "teams" could have included the 2004 Red Sox, if we're going outside of hockey.

Time for the annual celebration as Todd Bertuzzi is eliminated from the playoffs! Congratulations to all!

Just got back from the game in Nashville. Damn it is fun watching (and winning) an elimination game. Bridgestone Arena was electric tonight!

I was prevented from this board by Verizon for a few days. Their customer service is just... I'll save it for the Complaint Thursday thread.

It was nice to watch some real hockey in the PHI-PIT series.

-Crosby got a pretty good bump on the head from Malkin, but he got right back up and kept playing. Maybe he can still have a long career. That said:

-Crosby and Malkin were MIA tonight and Jordan Stoll stepped up again. If the Pens can win game five with the two best players in the league not producing, then imagine how well they'd be doing with those two firing on all cylinders.

-The fact that the Penguins' third line center is better than all of our centers reminds me that I'd really like Regier to be looking for a number one center this offseason.

-My brother was in first row seats to Fleury's right and we saw him several times leaning forward and looking like a little boy on Christmas morning when they did the ice level cameras. He was sent to Pittsburgh on work and he picked up second row tickets for the game (250 bucks each). Nobody sat in the seats in front of him during the second and third periods, so he and his two buddies moved up. Four out of five goals were scored right in front of him. He sent me a picture message of Ilya Bryzgalov and said "The net is so humangas big." My brother is such a little braggart.

And I lost a tennis match pretty horribly today. The weekend couldn't come sooner.

Would have killed to be at a game like that. What was the most memorable moment from the Arena tonight?

Edit: I just read on NHL.com that they are announcing the Raffi Torres suspension tomorrow. Shamahan (Swamp's) is most likely delaying it to attempt to make an impact by suspending a fourth line scumbag for six games.

And every team defends their own. Look at Torres when he played for the canucks and hit Seabrooke. Or how Mario whines about his stars getting hit but employs Cooke. Its every team in the league that does it and they all point fingers while at the same time they throw dirty hits or cheap shots. No team is immune from the double standard.

Except the Sabres, you mean.

I would think Kaleta has thrown a few borderline and very dirty or cheap hits. I know he has. I've also heard Sabres staff members complain about dirty hits thrown their way so ya the sabres would be included in that.

Gaustad and the Preds oust the Red Wings.....our draft pick gets a little worse.

Not much, though. The first two rounds' losers are sorted by regular season performance for the 15-26 spots, so winning the first round doesn't do anything in and of itself, but eliminating Detroit means that one less team below them can make it to the conference final round. However, given the actual rankings, this only cost them one spot if Vancouver would have completed the comeback, St. Louis would have held on to win their series and then Detroit would have won their second round match-up against St. Louis. Otherwise, Detroit would have faced another team with a worse regular season performance than the Preds, which means the outcome of that round wouldn't have affected the draft ranking for the Preds. The Preds winning the second round would be a bit more costly for the Sabres.

Your right, I think I was including teams that came back 3-1 when I was thinking of 3-0 comebacks, which is my error. Even than the total is 3 since 2009.

looks like only 2 series might be blowouts...the rest of the series are dogfights. I've been surprised how chippy this year's playoffs have been so far. Teams never used to fight in the playoffs, now they're always fighting. Plus players are going off on stretchers on a regular basis. Used to be that teams were afraid to make mistakes so the play was close to the vest. It looks like a mean, new era out there. Sabres better get prepared and get the doggiest dog players on their side, plus shooters who can actually hit the corners, because that's the only real way to score in the NHL now.

Congrats to the Predators! Going into the series I didn't think they could do it. Their confidence right now has to be sky high.

The Pens/Philly series is great hockey. The intensity of game #5 last night gave me chills.
