millbank Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Torres will end up being the fall guy for everyone. http://www.theglobea...e2406206/page1/ This is going to stir it up. Torres will get a heavy suspension to appease the critics, but it will mean nothing until the league starts doling out heavy suspensions for ALL of this stuff. Agree with this. No doubt had Hossa got up from hit, suspension would have been a game at most three. What has to be suspended is the action , not the result

apuszczalowski Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Did you watch the suspension video for the Smith hit. The whole way through you could insert Lucic for Shaw and Smith for Miller. http://www.nhl.com/i...s.htm?id=628346 Only possibly difference between the 2 was that Miller went forward out of his crease and was near the faceoff circle, some people believe goalies are "fair game" at that point. Smith was behind his net in the "trapazoid" area which is another "goalie protection area" like their crease. I never intended to argue with you on the fact that there really isn't a difference between the 2 hits
X. Benedict Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 In-person Friday hearing for Torres. That would mean he's "suspended indefinitely" seeing they play Thursday. Torres and the NHLPA requested the delay in the hearing. I assume to get everyone's tempers down before the trial begins. And IMO, to see if Hossa plays. Interesting way to handle it.
darksabre Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Interesting way to handle it. If Hossa isn't practicing I doubt he comes back. They wont rush him either.

I just saw the vid this morning and thought wtf, he's explaining the same incident he didn't do ###### about in November. We know Darcy as well as a few other GM's gave him ###### about it at the meeting afterward. In the interview afterward Shanny looked a bit like a kid that just got yelled at by his parents.

But he does give himself a little wiggle room WRT Miller/Lucic when he talks about this not being a case where a player was racing for the puck.
rickshaw Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 It looks like the Luongo era is coming to an end in Vancouver. The team will have Schneider in net for their biggest game of the season. Luongo has a huge deal we all know but I can't imagine he won't ask to be moved in the summer. This fan says he end up in Tampa Bay. His wife is a Florida native and they need a goalie in a hurry. He's been such a pro about this, putting the team first but Schneider is younger and cheaper. If a team is willing to take Luongo's contract then he's gonna be moved. I think he'll be the one who waives his no trade clause before he's asked. Should be an interesting summer.

darksabre Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Gotta think Florida or Columbus would take a crack at Lou.
rickshaw Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Not sure on the Cap room issues in Tampa. I know Yzerman is a big Louie fan. I'd agree on the Florida and Columbus idea as well. Maybe Nash to Vancity does happen.
K-9 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Brandon Bollig was on the ice when this hit happened. He's a young guy with a very impressive fight card. His presence didn't seemed to deter Torres at all and in fact ended up benefitting the Coyotes as he took the only penalty during the whole mess. The presence of guys like Chara and Lucic probably deters most of the hits from players with brains (Paul Gaustad for starters) but aren't most of these hits coming from players with dubious character? Torres is a maniac, I doubt much thinking is going on with him. From: HockeyFights I hope you're not suggesting Torres has dubious character. Because that would imply he has any character at all. GO SABRES!!!

Maybe Nash to Vancity does happen. Tampa looks to have a significant chunk of free cap space next year with no significant contracts ending this year. You'd have to think they're in for a bit of a remodeling across the roster and not just in net. They could make that contract work. Now in respect to a potential deal with Columbus, I can't imagine Luongo being too anxious to accept that. Maybe he does want a low key, low pressure situation, that's about the only thing I can think of that would make him want to go there.

TrueBlueGED Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Somewhere in Fla and he's gonna waive the no trade Any idea who they may want from Florida or Tampa? I'd imagine a guy like Ryan Malone would be a great addition: help open up space for the Sedins and teach Kassian.

TrueBlueGED Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 With that contract, Luongo is going to go cheap. Very true. It's interesting that Luongo might be the one to go rather than Schneider. Vancouver must be thoroughly convinced Luongo cannot take them where they want to go, since Schneider would probably bring back a much more significant return.

Vancouver must be thoroughly convinced Luongo cannot take them where they want to go, since Schneider would probably bring back a much more significant return. To me, it's a lot like this: Tyler Myers would bring back a far more significant return than Mike Weber would, but I know which one I'd trade first. Yeah, it's a crappy example because the money is completely different, but if you consider one guy to be a better option, that's who you keep.
rickshaw Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Simply put, Schneider's numbers are better than Luongo and there is very little to choose from in regards to who is better. But with age factoring in, Schneids is the logical keeper if they can move Luongo. However, his contract may make it difficult and then Schneider gets moved. Luongo's cap hit isn't all that bad, less than Miller's is. It's $5.3 million but it's $6.7 million for the next 6 years, then drops off the charts. So it's not impossible to move him. I will argue with anyone that Luongo was the reason the Canucks ended up where they were this year and should have been the team MVP. He was lights out for 3 months which masked a lot of issues on the team. I just think his pride will make him ask for the trade. He's got a lot left and can be a very good goalie for years to come. Possibly NJ would be an option too with Brodeur at the twilight of his career. Just saying. But I think he goes to one of the FLA teams. His wife is from there. She'll be happy. He'll be out of the spotlight and that may be a good thing too. But the Canucks have to bring back significant return for this to work. They desperately need someone who can ride the wings with the twins and also keep others honest. It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays out. http://postmediaprovince.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/luongoschneiderheadline.jpg
Eleven Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 With that contract, Luongo is going to go cheap. I got freaking roasted for this back in the day: http://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/983-luongo-turns-down-6myr/
TrueBlueGED Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Nice to see that the less-than-great goaltenders are playing to their ability. Anderson lets in 2, Fleury 3, Bryzgalov 2. Meanwhile, Lundqvist continues to shut down a very good Sens offense.
TheChimp Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Holy God, I looked and it was still Pre Game, looked again at they scored 7 goals between them.
Punch Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 My brain just melted trying to watch the end of that period.
TheChimp Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 My brain just melted trying to watch the end of that period. Why what happened? I dont even have the internet radio going today...
