bunomatic Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAQs8lq6KJ8&feature=youtu.be Damn. That is inexcusable. Didn't he get 4 games for a hit on Eberly this past season ?
SwampD Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Holy cow. How does Raffi Torres not get a penalty after leaving his feet to clobber Hossa? For those not watching, Torres laid out Hossa. Hossa taken off the ice on a backboard and stretcher. Ya know, guys leave there feet in every game to make a hit. I was expecting much worse. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Not you, weave, but I really am getting tired of all the whining this playoffs. It's like no-one has ever watched a playoff hockey game before. I still blame the Rangers
Iron Crotch Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Serious defensive break-down by Detroit. 3 defenders went with Marty Erat leaving two Preds standing alone in front of the net. Easy goal. 2-1 Preds.
Eleven Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Torres has always played right on the edge. Left his feet to make the hit. I'm sure Shamahan will look into this one. A search of the board reveals that you are the first to use this hilarious, and which should have been completely obvious but which was missed by all, nickname. Full marks. Serious defensive break-down by Detroit. 3 defenders went with Marty Erat leaving two Preds standing alone in front of the net. Easy goal. 2-1 Preds. Dammit, every time I switch to a game, there's something else going on in the other game. This is why I should stay at the bars with multiple TVs throughout the playoffs. Including during the day. You know, just in case.

Eleven Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I'm pretty sure that even I wasn't even close to being the first to use it. Not sure why it came up that way. It just came up that way. Sorry, Swamp. Next time I'm in NT, I'll drink one for you. As for you, bunomatic, I now award you NO points, may God have mercy on your soul, etc.
Iron Crotch Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Preds win 3-1 and take a 3-1 series lead. Have a chance to finish it out here in Nashville on Friday.

Not you, weave, but I really am getting tired of all the whining this playoffs. It's like no-one has ever watched a playoff hockey game before. I still blame the Rangers The issue is that it is time for things to change. The bigger and faster players get, the bigger the injuries. I'd rather watch a game with more skill and less hitting. I've watched enough Women's hockey to realize that the game can be very beautiful when players aren't trying to hurt each other. Ban contact to the head. Outright. Make players accountable for their actions. The longevity of a players career should not take a back seat to appeasing fans who want physicality that borders on unnecessary. You could remove body checking in its entirety from the game and I'd still watch it. It doesn't really play that much of a role in the overall gameplay anyway.

Eleven Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Update: Hossa either is in hospital or in the hospital, depending on your English preference; either way, hope he's ok. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=393480
Punch Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I know Cleary wants to move the puck up ice quickly, but FFS, why try to cross in front of your goaltender in that tight of a space. Weird play, but still pretty careless. Great awareness by Legwand.

There's a lot to be said for a lot of that. I had no problem being excited by the men's hockey in the Olympics in 2010 or any other year, and that tournament has none of this nonsense.

Weave Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Ya know, guys leave there feet in every game to make a hit. I was expecting much worse. It really wasn't that big of a deal. Not you, weave, but I really am getting tired of all the whining this playoffs. It's like no-one has ever watched a playoff hockey game before. I still blame the Rangers Don't make it right. And it don;t get much worse than taken off the ice on a backboard and stretcher. I like fighting. I like violence. I do not like the headshots. They need to be gone. Torres makes that hit with his feet on the ice and I'd want to buy him a beer. He leaps and takes out one of the leagues stars with a shot to his melon and I don;t need to see him play anymore. Preds win 3-1 and take a 3-1 series lead. Have a chance to finish it out here in Nashville on Friday. Well that 1st round pick just got two choices higher. D'oh !!
darksabre Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 There's a lot to be said for a lot of that. I had no problem being excited by the men's hockey in the Olympics in 2010 or any other year, and that tournament has none of this nonsense. Exactly. College hockey is about as entertaining as it gets and hits to the head are penalized there and fighting is banned outright. There isn't any less passion or grit. But there's people out there that want their cake and to eat it too. They want guys to throw big hits and walk on the edge but then don't like when players get hurt by it. You can have one or the other. Healthy players with long, successful careers, or big hits and broken bodies. This walking the line between the two that the NHL is trying to do just doesn't make any sense. It's ignorant.

The guys on T.S.N. are saying its exactly one year to the day that Torres layed out Seabrooke with a cheap shot to the head behind the net when Torres played for Vancouver. I guess this dates special for Raffe.
TheChimp Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I would miss the hitting. My solution would be better body and head protection. Better gear.

darksabre Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I would miss the hitting. My solution would be better body and head protection. Better gear. It's really improved about as far as it can go. At some point you have to make the players accountable. Arguing for better protection is just deflecting the blame.

Can't believe no penalty on the play, but if there was ANY consistency in the disciplinary policy at all, then Torres' first round should be over. The issue is that it is time for things to change. I'll second (or third?) d4rk's post. I don't want checking gone, I just want "I'm gonna take that dude out and get on SportsCenter" highlight reel high-speed freight-train collisions gone.
shrader Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Was that a typo or was that sarcasm that I missed? Typo, thanks for the catch. That Carkner suspension is the prime example of the inconsistency.
Bmwolf21 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Typo, thanks for the catch. That Carkner suspension is the prime example of the inconsistency. No prob. I was starting to wonder if he went back and changed his mind. You know - like the whole "if Alfie plays the suspension might be reduced" theory in reverse.
shrader Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I'll second (or third?) d4rk's post. I don't want checking gone, I just want "I'm gonna take that dude out and get on SportsCenter" highlight reel high-speed freight-train collisions gone. I hate the "you're trying to take hitting out of the game" defense. No one wants that. What they need to do is bring the most basic amount of respect back into the game. Guys like Raffi Torres don't give a damn about anyone else out there. I for one don't want to watch a game where guys are trying to cripple each other. All that keeps popping into my head is the whole "are you not entertained" speech from Gladiator. That's exactly what this is turning into.
TheChimp Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 It's really improved about as far as it can go. At some point you have to make the players accountable. Arguing for better protection is just deflecting the blame. Yeah, you're right. I'm wrong.
