darksabre Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Apparently the Kings just owned the second half of the season so maybe this is less of a surprise. Vancouver have looked shaky at times this season and people have doubted them. Kings have a talented roster and also have Quick in net, who's just a ###### wall. What use would it have done us? Our season was cooked at the deadline. The biggest problem for the Kings all season was scoring goals when it mattered. I can't even remember how many games Quick won by a single goal, but it was a lot. Perhaps most in the league. I honestly didn't expect them to be able to hang in the playoffs without offense, but here they are doing it.
shrader Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Once the pens are eliminated this shite will be reduced by a large margin. The pens coach has lost control of his team and the series. I hope so because I had a real hard time watching that game. I have zero interest in this frontier justice crap. If I wanted to watch that game, I'd go watch Slap Shot. You don't like the clean hit you just received? Just go out and throw back another big clean hit.

If I wanted to watch that game, I'd go watch Slap Shot. You don't like the clean hit you just received? Just go out and throw back another big clean hit. Or score a goal. That's what I loved about those 2006 Sabres and the way they handled Filly. OTOH, there are times when I do think some "frontier justice" is necessary. Such as February 2007 or November 2011.

There's no doubt Quick is the reason their in the playoffs and not fighting for no.1 overall pick but I'm less surprised that their beating the canucks.
Weave Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Once the pens are eliminated this shite will be reduced by a large margin. The pens coach has lost control of his team and the series. I suspect this is correct. Rags will be fairly disciplined I bet and Philly is already showing they prefer to play disciplined and get in your head instead. Boston could be a wildcard. They've got the horses and personalities to go thug. Pretty much every other team in the league doesn't have the personnel to do what Pittsburgh is doing.
Eleven Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 So I'm reading from unreliable sources that Neal has two separate disciplinary hearings tomorrow at 10am, and that Asham has an in-person visit with Shanny scheduled for 11am. Can anyone confirm? EDIT: Confirmed. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=393330

Eleven Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Waiting for some try-to-be-clever "sus-PEN-ded" headline on TSN.ca tomorrow...
Weave Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Waiting for some try-to-be-clever "sus-PEN-ded" headline on TSN.ca tomorrow... I think you just did it for them. I wonder if the 5 game threshold for in person hearings holds true for the playoffs too?
TheChimp Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I'm not sure it even matters. Henrik has been invisible and Johnny Quick is bonkers. LA is playing magnificent hockey and luck is on their side. 41 shots by Vancouver tonight is pretty good offense, just couldn't get the bounce they needed. Quick won this game like he won so many others this year: by staying sharp and hoping his team would come through, and they did. I'm just flat out impressed. That might have been one of the most entertaining 1-0 games I've watched. You don't suppose that Henrik has been invisible because his brother isn't there, do you? Are we really about to downplay the effect those two have when they're together? I seriously give up. :w00t:

It just seems like a major waste of time. Two events in the same game should not be treated separately. And as for Weave's comment about the five game threshold, I wonder if they're cumulative in this case. That would be the only positive for having separate hearings.

That's exactly what I think is going on. Four games plus two games or something like that. Or maybe the CBA requires separate hearings for separate incidents.

Eleven Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I just hope they have to send him out of the room with the message "could you please tell Mr. Neal to come in". Or hang up the phone and re-dial. It is pretty stupid, isn't it? And just what goes on at these "hearings," anyway? I'd love to know that.

But Vancouver's discipline seems to indicate that they don't think they can win. Instead of working to overcome the loss of Daniel, they seem to have thrown up their hands and called it done. LA is winning because Vancouver is in its own head.
Weave Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 I just hope they have to send him out of the room with the message "could you please tell Mr. Neal to come in". I laughed.
shrader Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Ok, someone please explain this to me. I'm reading that Alfredsson suffered a concusion on saturday (2 days ago) and is a game time decision tonight. How in any way does that follow the league protocol for concussions? Don't they have to be syptom free for a week?

Don't they have to be syptom free for a week? The Doctors recommend a week. This is the time it takes to go through the 6 step protocol with each step being 24 hours apart. The NHL only says the player needs to meet his previous cognitive baseline and be symptom-free both at rest and at full exertion.

So they're not as serious about the concussions as they would like to think. Nice to know.
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 So they're not as serious about the concussions as they would like to think. Nice to know. Or like officiating, they only care for half of a season?

Quite plausible, but I would argue that Daniel being out creates a domino affect on their line combos and their overall chemistry and skill level that they simply are not even close to the same team without him. Now Pittsburgh, yes, they're headcases. Vancouver, I think, is simply a three-legged horse at the Kentucky Derby without both Sedins in there together.
spndnchz Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Michael Leighton on re-entry waivers. Hmmmmm.
shrader Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Michael Leighton on re-entry waivers. Hmmmmm. And will wind up on the Bruins roster shortly? You'd have to think they'd be more comfortable with him riding the pine over Khudobin... if someone lower on the priority order (Pittsburgh) doesn't claim him first.

I was just going to suggest Pittsburgh. That would be hilarious.
