rbochan Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 taken from the wikipedia page of one mike komisarek: 'On April 3, 2012 at a game in Buffalo, NY, Komisarek angered Sabres forward Marcus Foligno, for which he and the Leafs were made to look silly.'
FolignosJock Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Except a home run derby is basically how the game is played anyway. Pitcher throws, batter tries to hit. The Shootout is not something that actually happens during the course of a normal hockey game. its a lot more real than a homerun derby... breakaways happen just not so blatantly... the pitcher does not try to lob homerun balls to batters.
spndnchz Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Sooo, me and the OL had a little intermission interlude between the 2nd & 3rd periods. Convincing her we "need" to repeat this every game might take some doing... Now that's taking one for the team.
LastPommerFan Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 its a lot more real than a homerun derby... breakaways happen just not so blatantly... the pitcher does not try to lob homerun balls to batters. I was assuming the pitcher would still be pitching. Not the batting coach. In that case, you are correct.
spndnchz Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 FWIW, Sulzer now has more points than Kassian and Gragnani combined.

apuszczalowski Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 its a lot more real than a homerun derby... breakaways happen just not so blatantly... the pitcher does not try to lob homerun balls to batters. Other teams pitcher stays in (just like the teams goalie coach wouldn't come out for the shootout to try and stop his own teams player) Breakaways may happen, but so do homeruns in baseball, and in most games atleast once or twice. Would it help many approve of the shootout if the opposing team was allowed to keep a player out on defence? Or how about they bring 2 players out to faceoff and play one on one with goaltenders? Might A better comparison be to compare it to a Basketball game ending games with a 3-point shootout or taking foul shots, or the NFL deciding by having a FG kicking contest? As for baseball, imagine if the extra innings rule made them remove one player from the field for every extra inning they had to go to? 10th inning, 2 outfielders, 11th goes down to 3 infielders, all the way to the 17th where its just the pitcher and catcher on the field?
LGR4GM Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I think they'll be okay with chz's kittens. ;) hehehe :w00t: My favorite part of Komisarek grinding Foligno's head into the ice was what Foligno did after the goal... pushed Komi off stood up and raised his hands to the sky!
spndnchz Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 After Foligno's hit last, Gunnarsson had a separated shoulder Done for the year.
apuszczalowski Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 hehehe :w00t: My favorite part of Komisarek grinding Foligno's head into the ice was what Foligno did after the goal... pushed Komi off stood up and raised his hands to the sky! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9tUF3NkZ4Y That video is something I would want looped over and over again Thats was also probably the 3rd time in the game that I can remember where a Leafs players just sat on a Sabres and held them down while the play continued on. How is that not an interference call? Watching that video and hearing Leafs fans crying about how it should have been blown dead because no one could see the puck on camera (therefore obviously no one anywhere knew where the puck was) that it should have been whistled dead and a faceoff. I have heard some argue too that they can cover it in the crease without a penalty shot aslong as its not under their hand, yet the ref appeared to see exactly where the puck was, you can even see him preparing to blow the whistle a few times by putting the whistle to his mouth then taking it back. One thing is for sure, he knew where the puck wasn't, and that was underneath the goalie so play was allowed to continue

Then he holds Leopold's stick. Leopold pulls his stick lose and crams it through. Hit pause at the 1:57 mark. You can see the puck loose under Lombardi #15 left leg.
apuszczalowski Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 After Foligno's hit last, Gunnarsson had a separated shoulder Done for the year. Apparently, according to some Leafs fans, it was a cheap shot hit from behind, or an intent to injure where he tried to hit him in the head
tiredsounds Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Apparently, according to some Leafs fans, it was a cheap shot hit from behind, or an intent to injure where he tried to hit him in the head oh please. hit was textbook. shoulder to shoulder. tank nation should be happy marcus did them a favour!
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Apparently, according to some Leafs fans, it was a cheap shot hit from behind, or an intent to injure where he tried to hit him in the head I saw that. Totally whacked way of thinking north of the border I guess? oh please. hit was textbook. shoulder to shoulder. tank nation should be happy marcus did them a favour! Exactly!
Doohicksie Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Convincing her we "need" to repeat this every game might take some doing... Considering what she told me last time she was here, I can see what you mean. (I kid! I kid!) I've been asking this question since its inception. Imagine a tied baseball game where there's 1 extra inning and then a homerun derby. Actually, softball extra innings are interesting. Each pitch represents an at-bat. If it's a strike, the batter is out. If it's a ball, he takes a base. A foul ball is an out, and if he gets a hit, naturally it's a hit. It plays out much more quickly than regular extra innings. FWIW, Sulzer now has more points than Kassian and Gragnani combined. :w00t: Darcy has apparently achieved genius status. In all seriousness, though, I think I've figured out the downside of the trade. CoHo just doesn't have breakaway speed on the ice, either offensively or defensively. There is no "burst" there, and it seems that most players can skate faster than he can.

Notice before Leo scores, he's wrestling to get his stick out of the goalie's glove, who's hanging on for dear life.
Eleven Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Avatar changes never show up for me for some reason, so I can't say anything. Same here I guess--it looks the same to me.
shrader Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 oh please. hit was textbook. shoulder to shoulder. tank nation should be happy marcus did them a favour! He even coasted into it. The helmet flying off is what is tricking most people into calling it dirty. As for that video, I really don't even care too much about the crease battle. The best part is the whole interaction on the faceoff. Komisarek and the other Leaf player (too lazy to figure out who it was) were constantly trying to make Foligno flinch and he never moved. Komisarek looked like an 8 year old bully trying to scare a kid with fake punches.
