LaFontaineToMogilny Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 A let down game for Foligno, but the Ennis, Foligno, Stafford line continues to look good. I also hope to see the Hodgson, Vanek, Leino line stay together for a few games at least. Not a great game for that line, but Hodgson's best game since the San Jose game and I think those three players can do great things. Keep Vanek going to the goal and I think that line could be awesome.
neverenough Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Hodgson looks so slow out their. He doesnt look like half the center ennis is.
LaFontaineToMogilny Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Hodgson looks so slow out their. He doesnt look like half the center ennis is. I'm not worried about Hodgsons speed, I lose more hair over his inability to recieve a pass in the skates. He's been shakey in his own end the past 6 or so games, looked better today. On that note, I was not very impressed with Ennis' defensive game today and he got burned badly on a couple of his patanted end to end weaving rushes as well. Again though, I'll take it, he's dynamic in the offensive zone and will (hopefully) mature defensivly with more experience.
kishoph Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Staff played alright tonight, he and Ennis were wheeling & dealing early on. He's just the new Tim Connolly that everyone blames every loss on even tho most everyone else played just as bad if not worse than him. This is how I feel as well. There's room for improvement but Stafford is not deserving the enormous amount of hate he's receiving on this board. Since being put back with Ennis he has looked pretty good. Stafford has 13 points (5 goals) in the last 15 games, 2nd on the team for that time period behind Ennis with 14 points (6 goals) in 15 games, and they both went through a 3 game pointless streak when Lindy moved Ennis back to the wing, they have looked very good working together and it seems to rejuvenate Stafford. I have been very critical of Stafford, but I always maintained that if he just put forth the effort he would produce. That line and Miller have kept our slim playoff chances alive, criticizing Stafford at this time is unjust.
rickshaw Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Get off of Hodgson's back. Love to know how old some of the haters are. Sounds like a lot of youngsters. The kid is a rookie!!!!!!!! He's not getting it done, we get that. He's a future and I believe he'll pan out. But he's bagged and it's clear. The team is winning. Thr Canucks miss Hodgson and are under .500 since he left. Kassian has done nothing and will be lucky to dress down the road. This team is done and it's about next year so quit blaming CH. Point the blame to the vets. Not Rookies!!!
Formerly Allan in MD Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Knew the game was lost when Stafford showed up for the shoot-out. He's clueless and worthless. Lindy still doesn't get that just about anyone would be an improvement over him. I'm not sure he's ever put it in the net in the SO but Lindy keeps wheeling him out. Don't blame Stafford at this point; blame the coach.
JJFIVEOH Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 They were 7 players into the shootout. Who else would you have picked? I listened to the post game and listened to all the callers complaining about the Sabres and shootouts. I really don't know how people can seriously lay any blame on a team when it comes to shootouts. For the most part it's a crapshoot.

That is true, but the fact that this team has had so many shoot-outs is testament to how bad the offense has been all season. This team simply is not scoring enough goals in normal play, period.

This team simply is not scoring enough goals in normal play, period. I can't disagree with that at all. They're just not playing the style of offense they were the second half of the season last year. I still can't figure out whether Lindy is making them play more conservative because of the terrible habit they had of turning over pucks during their slide........... or not. They certainly aren't playing the same style of offense they were the second half of the season last year. They're doing a much better job cutting down on oppisition scoring over last year's second half but they gotta find a way to win these one goal games.

That line and Miller have kept our slim playoff chances alive, criticizing Stafford at this time is unjust. Yup. And sure, I'd LOVE to see Stafford convert onmore of the scoring chances he's been getting lately, but the important thing to me, really, is that he's getting and often creating those chances. There was a 20 second or so stretch tonight where Stafford and Ennis were dishing back and forth near the right face off circle, Stafford got two great scoring chances in a row, and I believe Leopold or another defense man got a third from roughly the same spot during the same possession. It was awesome passing. Stafford looks like a different player when playing with Ennis.
deluca67 Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Ruff inserted Hodgson into the shootout in an attempt to boost his confidence and he missed the net left by at least a foot - that was painful to watch I hope this is not true. He should be trying to win the game, not trying to give individual players a boost. Based on his performance as a Sabres, Hodgson should be the absolute last Sabre to get the nod in the shootout.
Jsixspd Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 2-4 (Caps have a game-in-hand), plus we'll lose the tiebreaker, so it's really 3-5. They lost to the Jets Friday night - so they have 78 points vs Buffalo's 76. They're playing the Blackhawks today in Chicago - let's hope they lose. And the Red Wings tomorrow night in Detroit - so there's a chance they could go 0 out of 4 in their next two games. IF the Sabres could pick up two points tomorrow night, things might be tied at 78-78. Of course, if Caps win today, we're kind of boned, as we'd really need to gain 5 points on the Caps in the last 9 games of the season to sew up a playoff spot. I'd say if the Caps win one of these two games today or tomorrow, and the Sabres don't get any points tomorrow night, it's pretty close to "game over, man.... game over. "

Seems like Hodgson fits right in with this team. He already has his group of fans ready to make excuses for him. I wish I could find the post where someone blamed Ennis and Stafford for Hodgson not having any points. Foligno goes on that line and has an immediate impact. And he is a ROOKIE as well. He must be in better condition since he doesn't seemed "bagged."
Eleven Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 I love it when you get all numbery  That was a horribly boring game to watch. The Ennis line was the only watchable line (I have such a crush on Ennis right now). If I didn't get accepted to McGill today, I'd be downright disappointed  Congrats
Jsixspd Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Seems like Hodgson fits right in with this team. He already has his group of fans ready to make excuses for him. LOL Like I wrote in another post, he apparently was hired to make Roy and Stafford look like superstars.
Ross Rhea Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Down by 2 w/ 10 to go. Its not unthinkable people. Buffalo can get it done. Miller is playing the hockey he used to play. As for the Vanek bashing, it is quite apparent the guy is playing injured. Cant slam a guy for that. Buff still has a legit chance. not sure what you mean about this, but last night that game should have been a 2-1 sabres win period.

Kristian Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 If we're going to be in a shootout every game, sit Boyes and recall Kotalik. I'd agree with that, or ship off Hodgson to the Isles for Frans Nielsen, in the off-season.
Gramps Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Despite the shootout loss last night, the Sabres are in a good spot. The Caps are @ Chicago, @Detroit, @Philadelphia and then home to Winnipeg. Tough schedule for sure and the Sabres sched is much easier ... @Tampa, Montreal, @NYR (slumping badly), and Minnesota. Winnipeg has no picnic either with Carolina, @Pitt, @Washington, @Nashville. I like our chances to be in 8th by the end of next week. I know some will say why finish in 8th and get blown out by the Penguins, but isn't 8th better than 9th or 10th ?

G-Daddy Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Even if they squeak into the playoffs, no way they get out of the first round. Time to blow it up starting with regier and riff then the Rochester core. The young avs and panthers showed that we need a new injection of youth and exuberance.

Agree with us not getting out of the first round but look what an injection of youth and exuberance got us earlier in the year when we had the injury problems. We need a mix of youth and experience. The problem is it has to be the right mix put together by the right guy.

Foligno is a rookie, yes but he hasn't played a whole season in th NHL and he wasn't enjoying the West Coast travel like Vancity enjoys. I always laugh when East Coast fans don't see how good their teams have it when it comes to travel. Hodgson has hit the wall and it comes at a bad time. But longterm, I have a feeling I'll be looking up some of the panic posts regarding him.
