LastPommerFan Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Upon review, I think this suspension is fair. I also think the event left shanny with no choice. The keys here are Gomez's concussion and the fact that the GM meetings are currently underway. Giving someone a concussion in hockey is tantamount to ###### the interns in politics. You can do almost anything else, by they'll get you for that. And with the GMs focused on concussions, Shanny's hand was forced. I am aware that Lucic gave miller a concussion. I think we all agree Shanny dropped the ball on that one. IMO he got this one right.

shrader Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I like to think Myers skated up to his keeper and said, "That was for you Millsy." But I don't think that's how it went down. Wasn't Myers still in Kelowna when that happened? Oh, and does anyone know if Hitler has reacted to this suspension yet?
LastPommerFan Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Wasn't Myers still in Kelowna when that happened? Oh, and does anyone know if Hitler has reacted to this suspension yet? Premature eGodwination?

LGR4GM Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Mum mum mum mah Mum mum mum mah I wanna suspend a guy from Texas please Let him get hit, but not let him hit, precious Lucic stay with me (I love it) Status and perceived toughness guide my moods with Sabs to start And after Kaleta's been hooked I'll F*** the team for which he starts Oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhhh, oh-oh-e-oh-oh-oh I'll get him hot, show him what I've got Oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhhh, oh-oh-e-oh-oh-oh, I'll get him hot, show him what I've got [Chorus:] Can't read my, Can't read my No you can't like my penisface (Gary's got me like nobody) Can't read my Can't read my No you can't like my penisface (Colin's got me like nobody)
LTS Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 he got three games because gomez was injured as a result of the hit. he returned to the game but felt bad afterwards and is supposedly undergoing tests today in montreal. if gomez hadn't been injured i doubt myers would've been given 3 games. my problem with the ruling and the issue that i've had from the start of the season is that there is still no concrete standard for determining punishments. the nhl needs to draft a solid list of criteria that makes a hit a suspendible one. taking into account all factors, (injury, intent, etc) and sticking to it, no matter what players are involved. He has that list.. he needs to actually use it. F. Gomez getting checked out.. his "injury" see below in a moment for why that's a crock... Ridiculous. When a Flyer boards a Sabre in the back, nothing happens...... So you'd mean this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4irv6C5WK_E :50 in you get the slow motion replay of Bourdon slamming Gerbe's head into the glass. That's right, no review, no fine, no suspension. Gerbe was out of the game at the moment and missed a few more along the way recovering from a concussion. The argument, as I see it, is not that Myers was suspended for 3 games but that so many others have gone without even a whiff of review for actions that are probably even worse than what Myers did. This was similar to last year in the playoffs when Richards escaped trouble while slamming Sabres forwards headfirst into the boards TWICE! And yes.. just announced.. McNabb is replacing Myers.
shrader Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Richards boarded Connolly while Colin Campbell was on the watch. You pretty much had to Bertuzzi a guy to get suspended by him. Nothing prior to this year can be held against this new Shanahan regime. That said, you can find plenty of stuff this year if you look.

While Gomez doesn't have that common sense so Myers needed to be suspended.
DumbPuck Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 This whole thing disgusts me a bit. It is getting a bit absurd. Yes, Myers deserves to be suspended. But so does the flyer who boarded Gerbe. So does the 'Cane (I think) who boarded Gaustad in that first meeting earlier in the season. So does Lucic for the hit on Miller. It is getting ridiculous and now Kaletta can't even breathe on another team's player without being penalized. The dude has no game anymore now that he's neutered. So frustrating.

I agree you can't hold him accountable for past transgressions. You can hold the NHL accountable for failing to address the situation properly through a second regime. We all wanted Campbell gone and it appears it doesn't get any better with a former player in that spot either. But Gerbe glanced back to see where the Flyers were so it was OK for him to get boarded. While Gomez doesn't have that common sense so Myers needed to be suspended. Exactly.. clearly that's the key. :) On the bright side, we get McNabb back in the lineup right? It could be worse.

And also, you do realize that Campbell was also a former player, right?

Peppy22 Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I think itll be 2... 3 if shanahan hates the sabres and wants him out for the important game against tampa just saying ;)
spndnchz Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Guess the suspension. Good read? Funny? Interesting. http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2011/12/07/game-show-time-guess-the-suspension/
Guest Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Guess the suspension. Good read? Funny? Interesting. http://blogs.thescor...the-suspension/ Apparently us Sabres fans aren't the only ones who think Lucic and the Bruins get obvious favoritism.
LastPommerFan Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I wonder if Looch would be less physical and imposing if he actually got suspended for some of these hits.
nobody Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I wonder if Looch would be less physical and imposing if he actually got suspended for some of these hits. But if the league started suspending Lucic then they would also have to start suspending Chara - can't have that happen!
Guest Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I've never seen this video of Lucic sucker punching Meyer. I don't know if I can have anymore disrespect or hate for Lucic, but this is one of the cheapest, cowardly acts I have seen and no suspension was handed out for this pussified act. Why can't Lucic man up and take on a real heavyweight. The pansy backed down twice when Laraque tried to fight him. Love how Bruins players always throw punches when they have someone down on the ice. Definitely the dirtiest team in the league. They make the Flyers look like angels. http://youtu.be/8cCnaxHx9bk
shrader Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Ahhh I remember that one. Lucic has 7 inches on Meyer but somehow Freddy was "clearly targeting his head" all while staying on his feet. That's the classic case where Jack Edwards says something completely assinine and then Brickley quickly tries to distance himself from that statement.
Eleven Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Guess the suspension. Good read? Funny? Interesting. http://blogs.thescor...the-suspension/ That is fantastic. nfreeman, Occam's razor is calling. Either Jeremy Jacobs has pictures of Shanahan acting out his David Frost side, or something happens to make the league look the other way with certain teams and especially certain players. I'm going with the latter, and I still don't think it's a conspiracy.
