On the new mobile, so not sure how this will work.

I thought he'd get 2. For whatever reason, 3 seems over the top.

It also seems -- seems -- to be an individualized message to a towering youngster: Hey kid. You're a big man who is going to get bigger. You can't line up guys like that and run them from behind. Someone might die.

Of course, that's fundamentally inconsistent with how Chara is treated.

*Sigh*

But, hey -- Mario Williams!!!

Don't remind me. I don't wanna get my hopes up.

he got three games because gomez was injured as a result of the hit. he returned to the game but felt bad afterwards and is supposedly undergoing tests today in montreal. if gomez hadn't been injured i doubt myers would've been given 3 games. my problem with the ruling and the issue that i've had from the start of the season is that there is still no concrete standard for determining punishments. the nhl needs to draft a solid list of criteria that makes a hit a suspendible one. taking into account all factors, (injury, intent, etc) and sticking to it, no matter what players are involved.

Interesting. Where did you hear this? I still think that 3 games is a little harsh even if Gomez is hurt. If he really is concussed then X is probably right.

Which means that Moe-ray-all should get fined themselves for not caring about the safety of their own player. They sent him back into that game 3 minutes of game time after he came out of the game. There is no ###### way that he was evaluated at the time of the hit.

So the last Sabres game against the leagues sweetheart team, the Bruins, Kaleta gets hit from behind (can't remember which scumbag Bruins douchebag it was) and is injured. He missed the entire third period and the next game. No penalty was called, let alone any review or hearing. This league continues to be the model for inconsistency.

Don't forget Phaneuf's 5 minute boarding penalty on Kassian that didn't even earn a phone call from the league. I'm more pissed about this now than when I first heard about it. It's absolutely ridiculous how bad this league is.

Can anybody find another player that was suspended 3 games for a 1st offense? Anyone?

And the fact he was injured should have absolutely nothing to do with it, nor should intent. All that should matter is the hit itself, whether it was illegal or not. If I was speeding but don't cause an accident, could I tell the officer that nobody was hurt so I should get off? It's absurd. Punish the act, not the result, and certainly not the intent which is 100% impossible to determine with certainty. I hate this league sometimes.

Spot on. They should lose a draft pick as discipline for neglecting safety concerns.

Agree with the rest of your post, but in cases where intent is obvious or lack of intent is obvious it should be a mitigating factor. If intent isn't clear, then it shouldn't factor in; but oftentimes it can be determined.

I still remember a few years back when Gilmour came back for his 1st game against the Sabres in '01. He flew across the entire width of the ice to lay Varada out. Clearly intentional and IIRC no suspension was handed out, though there should have been one.

Don't feel bad, the entire city of Montreal probably feels the same.

awesome.

Seriously though Shenanigans is a failure. An Epic failure. The good news is the hockey world takes yet another dump on Buffalo. I need to sign off, this just makes me angry considering the number of twice as egregious boardings that Sabres players have taken with not even a phone call.

I wonder who's paying shanny off....I mean honestly, there's absolutely no justification for this, 1 game, ok sure. 2 games, pushing it. But 3!!!!! I honestly think an investigation should be started on this. There's something going in behind the scenes and its not fair or justified. Shanny......F*ck U!!!!!!

Fair enough, if intent is clear then I could live with it. I think that's probably a minority of cases though.

Wow, that BLOWZ! However, Myers was pissed and drilled the guy unneccesarily. He needs to be smarter and be more under control than that. I hate it, and think it was about two games too many, but what can you do?

it's no secret that the nhl would much rather see the capitals in the playoffs. definitely suspendible, but 3 games for a player with no history is a joke

Just goes to show, that the NHL system for handing out justice is deeply flawed and a complete crap shoot. Myers rolled snake eyes and is getting punished pretty hard for a pretty regular hit.
