BetterDays06 Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 I knew Myers would have a hearing today.. Damnitttt. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=622014
spndnchz Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Myers faces the possibility of supplemental discipline for the hit he delivered against Gomez. If I remember this hit right Gomez backed right into Myers on this one. Myers was only about a foot away when Gomez turns. I don't think Gomez ever saw him.
SDS Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 How can Myers have a hearing when Myers never hits anyone?
korab rules Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 What a freaking load of crap - that hit happens damn near every game and he never lifts a finger. Kaleta got slammed into the boards from behind on a much worse hit a couple games ago and no review - a sabre does it to someone, and Shanny immediately reviews it. I always hated that DB - he's no better than that DB Campbell - he just has a better resume.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Can we give Brad Boyes stilts and a blonde wig and send him to take the suspension instead?
wonderbread Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Can we give Brad Boyes stilts and a blonde wig and send him to take the suspension instead? Nice.
carpandean Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Probably still would have been interference had Gomez turned up ice like you would expect instead of turning back to face puck, but it wouldn't have been bording. Tough call on that one. Hope it's short, if anything.
Sabre Dance Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Shoot, if Myers put Gomez out of the game (which he didn't), he'd be doing the Canadiens a favor. Gomez has been a slug for the last year. Whomever Montreal would bring in/up to replace him would be miles better....
DR HOLLIDAY Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Can we give Brad Boyes stilts and a blonde wig and send him to take the suspension instead? Can Brad type, he could just stay on as Shanny's secretary.......Is it possible to whiff on a Memo?
bunomatic Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Shanny really looks up to Myers. He just wants his John Henry.

As for the hit, it would definitely be suspension-worthy IMHO if Gomez hadn't turned his back to Myers at the last second. I'll guess that the late turn by Gomez, along with what I think is a clean record for Myers, will preclude a suspension.

I'll guess that the late turn by Gomez, along with what I think is a clean record for Myers, will preclude a suspension. There are two things that could get him here. 1. The high follow through with the arms 2. They could make the claim that it looked like he was out for blood after taking the stick to the face on the initial hit seconds earlier
waldo Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 How can Myers have a hearing when Myers never hits anyone? good point... maybe Shan just wants a date
wallybarthman Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 As long as he gets the same as Lucic I think it's fair (null)
Claude_Verret Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 There are two things that could get him here. 1. The high follow through with the arms 2. They could make the claim that it looked like he was out for blood after taking the stick to the face on the initial hit seconds earlier Yes, this will not reflect well as he was clearly pissed /frustrated after just taking a stick to the squash.

They could make the claim that it looked like he was out for blood after taking the stick to the face on the initial hit seconds earlier I think the "follow through" is arguably an effort to minimize contact; Myers props himself up on the boards, letting Gomez under him. At least that's what I'd argue. And there's a late turn. But I have no problem with what korab said, either. I'm perceiving a double standard in this league. The teams that are reputedly "tougher" seem to get away with a lot more than the teams that are reputedly "softer." If it's Hartnell, it's just a Flyer being a Flyer, you know, but if it's some guy from a "finesse" team, well, we'd better look into it.

They could make the claim that it looked like he was out for blood after taking the stick to the face on the initial hit seconds earlier On point 1, they have never once blamed Chara for that. The bar for giants has been set a bit higher than for normal sized players, so I don't think that gets him to the suspension. IF he gets suspended, I'd expect point 2 factors in heavily. My guess is that he doesn't get suspended as Gomez was turning at the time and didn't end up severely injured.

I wish I was joking when I say that, but I'm not.
LastPommerFan Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 My guess is a fine, they don't want to disrupt the storyline that is the sabres resurgence. I nice fine will let them send a message without affecting the product on the ice. IMO the hit was suspension worthy. he sees gomez's numbers the entire time and still follows through. He may have expected him to turn, but not turning toward the hit is different than turning away from it.

Gomez has been a slug for the last year. Whomever Montreal would bring in/up to replace him would be miles better.... Are we sure the hearing is for discipline? He may be going to receive an award from the Canadians and their fans for doing them a favour. Myers should have just tried to decapitate Gomez, or say he didn't mean to do it, that seemed to work in the past.............

If I remember this hit right Gomez backed right into Myers on this one. Myers was only about a foot away when Gomez turns. I don't think Gomez ever saw him. not a telephone hearing either. sh!t. There are two things that could get him here. 1. The high follow through with the arms 2. They could make the claim that it looked like he was out for blood after taking the stick to the face on the initial hit seconds earlier #2 was clearly a causal factor to the run he took. i think that may get him a game or 2. again, sh!t.
Eleven Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Aud, where are you learning that it's an in-person hearing? That's bad news.
That Aud Smell Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 Aud, where are you learning that it's an in-person hearing? That's bad news. my bad. i inferred that it was an in-person hearing based on the press release that i saw (which didn't say either way). in the past, i thought that the press release would qualify the announcement with telephonic hearing, if that is what they're having. but, given the timing (i.e., today), i now take it that he's having the hearing by phone.

Or Shanny's hopping on the QEW.
