What would it take to get Parise?

Whilst he would be a good addition, i am not sure it is that wise a move. Having Vanek and Parise at left wing and Stafford and Pominville at right gives us a lot of imbalance, if we did go for it, people would need to be moved and our offence pretty much restructured (which is maybe not the worst thing in the world, but still a big deal)

I think we're getting Parise. I just do. He doesn't want to go to a big market. He's friends with Stafford. Let's hope.

Agree 100 %, I had the same feeling after reading up on Cody. My friend is a devils fan, and I told him to mark my words.

If we send Ellis back to the AHL and don't resign Boyes/Hecht

We would have $4,261,644 in cap space based off of this years cap

If it jumps around $4,000,000 we would have 8.2 million which if we sign Parise around 7.1 would sill leave us with 1.1mil in wiggle room.

Did you account for the huge jump in cap hit for Myers which begins next season?

The bottom line is getting Parise to want to be here will be the biggest obstacle. Everything else can be worked out.

This has to be the reason Stafford is still here.

I want an hour long special on the NBC Sports Network, ending with Parise say, "I'm taking my talents to Woodlawn Beach."

I'd be happy without Parise to be honest, I can see more valuable FAs/players out there. Infact I'm not sure about any of the high priced ones, players like Koivu might be a welcome addition, a one year contract for a veteran leader.

If a team walks up to me and would ask me, if Vanek is available...I would talk to them...

But I doubt that they are going to trade Thomas, so Parise will not end up in Buffalo...

I'll take four 7 million dollar a year players and fill out my roster with 500k to 1 million dollar players.

What if Stafford doesn't want to be here?

Parise is 5-11 195lbs. Unless we ditch Ennis AND Gerbe I don't want him. Any more and we'd be a team of oompa loompas.

I still think Doan or Iginla are more achievable (I don't know their contract status).

This team needs to get better, Roy needs to go, Adam should be put back at center, Bring up Phil Varone next year. Man is playing some great hockey in rochester.

Make sure I spelled Varone right for mom lurking around.

Does Varone have an NHL contract? I thought he was only just recently signed to a fulltime AHL contract after his AHL tryout contract expired.

RW {CAL} Iginla (1 year left after this year) 34 yrs old 7mil cap hit

RW/LW {UFA} Doan (UFA at season's end) 35 yrs old 4.55 is present contract

LW/RW {LAK} Dustin Brown ( 2 years left after this year) 27 yrs old 3.5 mil cap hit

LW/C {UFA} Zach Parise (UFA at season's end) 27 yrs old 6 mil is present contract

LW {UFA} Dustin Penner (UFA at season's end) 29 yrs old 4.25 is present contract(but he's been cold since signing it due to an injury)

Varone signed to a 1 year AHL contract but has been playing extremely well and should be resigned. He had 82 points in the EOHL last year and has 41 points this year in 59 games but 30 of them coming in the past 33 games.

Not wanting Parise because we have small guys already is a bad reason to not want him in my opinion. This team needs more talent in the top-6, period. As much as I love Gerbe's effort, I'd be looking to trade him--I think Ennis is just better so I'd keep him. I doubt we could get Iginla since I don't see him getting traded, and if he does, Calgary is probably only moving him to a team closer to the Cup than we are. Doan would be great if he doesn't re-sign in Phoenix, and if Dustin Brown is actually going to get traded in the offseason I'd love a run at him.

Bottom line for me is Parise is far and away the most talented player available in free agency, and I want him. Size and grit can be added in separate deals.

The only issue I have with the bolded part is number of roster spaces. We are going to have to move alot more than our UFA's and Gerbe if this team is going to get more talented in the top 6 plus grittier/bigger in separate moves.

I am all for making enough moves to allow this to happen, but the pessimist in me doesn't see that many moves this offseason.

Indeed, wanting it and actually getting it are two different things. I don't expect half of our top 6 to be turned over this year (although if it happened I think we might instantly be contenders depending on exactly what was done). My general feeling is still that we're this offseason +1 away from being true contenders, and that is largely predicated on my doubts that what we need to happen will or even can be done in 1 offseason with the pieces we have to do it.

First of all, I'm confused. If he's a free agent we don't have to give NJ anything. Second of all, just because we have a lot of wingers doesn't mean you can't go out and get better ones. Parise is one of the most offensively gifted wingers in the NHL and there's no reason why we shouldn't make a run for him. Ennis is a natural center anyway.

When you're close to the cap and the wingers you have are tough to move due to inflated contracts, it pretty much means exactly that.

They'd have to move either Stafford and Roy, or Vanek or Leino to open up capspace for Parise.

If we get Parise, we are going to have a top 6 that must include:

Parise (obviously)

Vanek (he is the face of the offence, i would be shocked if we traded him, plus he has a huge contract for his production)

Stafford (i presume if we get parise, one of his conditions would be stafford stays)

Coho (we just traded a huge asset for him....)

Leino (good luck getting rid of that contract)

Pominville (captain of the team, plays all situations)

Where does Ennis fit in? I guess we move him to centre and put Leino on the third line? What a waste of 4.5mil....

Aside from the fact there are 3 LW and only 1 C in that mix, it also means we are 'stuck' with that line up for a while. The only real way around that problem would be to trade one of Vanek or Pominville, as i think for one reason or another, the others are not moving. So i think, in summary, if Parise comes here, Vanek goes. They play the same position and the cap hit would be roughly the same.

Good point, I'd want rid of Stafford tho but that leaves us stacked at LW and for average C's but weak on RW.

Yes But with Parise you are getting a player in his prime, as well as that veteran leadership long term. I do see however, how because of the position he plays how he doesn't really fit on our roster. I am an idiot because I thought he played center for NJ. But, the guy is a gamer, a playmaker and seems to not have as many scoring droughts as Vanek does, so maybe even swap would be better.
