What would it take to get Parise?

This is my first post and I am sure this has been discussed before, but what would it take to get Zach Parise in a Sabre Uniform next year? I know that the Devils are looking to get some kind of return for Zach, as opposed to just letting him hit the fee agent market. Now with our 2 first round draft picks, it seems we can legitimately be a player in the deal. What else would need to happen to clear cap room?

where would you put him? He is a LW (unless ppl say he can play center)...

LW on the Sabres:

Vanek

Ennis

Leino

Gerbe

Foligno

I like Parise but unless you are trading a LW (vanek) than I do not think the sabres have a spot for him... unless you shuffle things and trade Roy move Ennis to center and put the lines as such...

Parise - Hodgson - Stafford

Vanek - Ennis - Pommers

Gerbe - ?(Catenacci? or Stoll perhaps) - Kaleta

Foligno - McCormick - Tropp

In the end I think that it is not feasible to get, nor plausible the sabres are interested in getting Parise this summer unless they make a move prior. Also I have no idea if the math works on this or not. I am sorry I am to tired and sore to check.

Just move Vanek to center.

Ennis was drafted to play center.

McCormick gets dropped. I'd say we all hate roy because he is our "1st line center".......

I think if he was our 3rd line center..... he would be the best in the league. (3rd Line Center)

It's too late to get anything significant for Parise. They can trade his "rights", that's not worth a 1st or 2nd.

Cap wise the Sabres are not in good shape. They don't have a lot of assets that will be easy to move in the off-season to create space. They would have to either bury some players like hey did Kotalik or a major deal would have to be made.

Parise is going to get a lot of attention and have a lot of teams ready to through money at him. You are probably looking at a monster front loaded contract. The Sabres can certainly afford it, the problem is fitting it under the cap.

Cap room won't be an issue. Even if they are close they can bury contracts in Rochester or hopefully move some $$$ via trade. As far as getting exclusive negotiating rights, i.e. Ehrhoff from the Isles, I'm sure the Sabres HAVE enough to obtain the rights but would you be willing to give up one or more first round picks without knowing if he even wants to be a Sabre?

Considering Stafford and Parise are such swell pals I bet management would have it on good authority before making a move. If there were a trade compensation bidding war for his rights I think a 1st might be worth it.

There could be an interesting game played with conditional picks. For example, a first if you sign him, a second if you don't. The Devils might go for that if it's coming down to the wire (i.e., he's going to walk for nothing shortly), but they wouldn't do it early on, as a team could try then trade his rights for more than the second. They'd have to balance the strength of the "if signed" offer with the chances that a team could sign him (what's their cap situation like, what's their financial situation like, would Parise like to play there, etc.)

First of all, I'm confused. If he's a free agent we don't have to give NJ anything. Second of all, just because we have a lot of wingers doesn't mean you can't go out and get better ones. Parise is one of the most offensively gifted wingers in the NHL and there's no reason why we shouldn't make a run for him. Ennis is a natural center anyway.

They're talking about giving NYJ a pick, prolly a fourth rounder, for the rights to talk to him after the season is over and before July 1

Correct. They will have to move out 2 of their pricier guys (ie $3MM - $4MM guys) to create cap space. Parise will cost $7MM per year or more.

I do not see Parise leaving the Devils and if he did, his price would be outrageous either to trade for or sign.

Now if the Sabres do want an elite winger, I could see them getting in the Rick Nash sweepstakes around the draft considering we have 2 1st round and 2 2nd round picks to play with.

It's going to cost a hell of a lot more to trade for Rick Nash than it would to trade for Parise's rights, and Nash's contract is 7.8 mil per year so how exactly is that better than signing Parise for roughly the same amount, if not less?

And, for the record, I've brought this up in my blogs and in recent posts on here -- I would certainly give up a first round pick for Parise's rights if management feels they create the cap space necessary to sign him. I don't think "convincing" him to come to Buffalo would be a big issue. The one issue I foresee is that Stafford could weigh in on the issue to help bring Parise here, but he could very well be the $4 million chunk being moved to make room.

Parise can play centre. But even if he cant he still should be our top target.

Top six forward with grit is our biggest need.

I'll take a top one forward with grit and TPegs has the juice to fit him under the cap.

Juggle the roster around him. Roy obviously and you can find another $3million easy enough

And yes you trade for his rights - a fourth that becomes a second if we sign him.

Well, I'm just speculating, I have no idea if Jersey actually plans to sign Parise or not. According to capgeek they have plenty of cap space to do so, but I think the problem is with ownership. But if they are really not expecting to re-sign Parise, then it could become a bit of a bidding war for his rights. I would give them a third rounder that becomes Nashville's first rounder if we sign him. Hard to turn down that kind of offer if you know you can't re-sign him yourself.

Not sure if Parise fits the bill with respect to having "grit" but I don't care. His skill would be a welcomed addition.

You guys do remember that Boyes and Jochen Hecht, last name always screws me up, contracts end at the end of the season giving us 7.5 mil in extra room. Not to mention the cap room jump at season's end.

SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,412,856; BONUSES: $1,047,500

CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $1,587,144

Ennis and Parise could switch theoretically.

Plus we would really have no true #1 line.

We'd have 2 #1 lines

A #2 equivelent if Leino plays like he's supposed to

And a 3rd line of grinders and a playmaker of sorts

But I had to assume the Salary cap was at 69,000,000

Yes, Boyes and Hecht come off the books-- but Myers 5 mil extension goes into effect, and Ennis is due for a raise. That effectively uses the space cleared by boyes and hecht departure.
