DR HOLLIDAY Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Oh, this was, BY FAR, Leino's best game as a Sabre. He looked like the Leino that played against the Sabres in the playoffs last year.
MBSabreFan Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Hodgson looked great in all areas of the game..... Kassain played well, but in no way deserved the first star..... Nice to see Leino and Boyes show up, now to have everyone (Vanek, Pom, etc.) going at the same time.... What was with those two phantom high sticking calls and that horrible interference call on Kaleta..... Sabres played a great road game, even though they were outshot by 10 shots, Miller had a relatively easy go (especially considering it was Vancouver)...... I am a die-hard Buffalo Sabres fan, born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, and I am SO looking forward to cheering on my Sabres against the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre this coming Monday! Let's Go BUFF-A-LO!
kishoph Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 what is with the losing team getting 2 stars against the Sabres lately. I think Kaleta earned a star over 2 guys that were on the losing team.

AGHHHHH! what is with the losing team getting 2 stars against the Sabres lately. I think Kaleta earned a star over 2 guys that were on the losing team. It's like we were talking above about the "hits", they're decided by locals. Locals = homers.

Eleven Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Woke up very early to a very nice box score. I only got to see the first period, but nice!

AGHHHHH! It's like we were talking above about the "hits", they're decided by locals. Locals = homers. I realize that, which is why I don't pay attention to them too much, but I really can't remember the Sabres pickers selecting 2 stars in a losing effort unless 1 was the Goalie, then again, like I said I don't pay attention to them that often so I could be wrong. Also both of these recent games that it happened, the Sabres won by 2 goals in regulation.
JJFIVEOH Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Koziol had a guy call in after the Sharks game complaining about the 3 stars. Koziol said that he's one of the people who casts his votes for the 3 stars at the Sabres games. He agreed that many of the 3 stars in different arenas are influenced by their PR group but Koziol tries to vote with an unbiased viewpoint. I have to agree that for the most part the 3 stars in BFLO are usually pretty legit; other cities not so much.
Marvelo Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 is it just me or is Kassian getting bald at age 21?
wjag Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Vanek with just 12:09 of TOI last night.. One of the lowest totals on the team..
North Buffalo Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Vanek with just 12:09 of TOI last night.. One of the lowest totals on the team.. It looked like Roy was back to his old tricks of turning the puck over and Vanek and Pommenville just looked tired and frustrated with Roy. That being said, the other two lines looked great... Now if the Sabres could only get another center and let go of... er trade Roy. Still a really nice game and I love the Kaleta, Gerbe line with the addition of Leino. Kaleta and Gerbe are really good passers that can score. Both skate hard all day long and Leino seems to be infected by their work ethics. The Hodgson line didn't seem to suffer too much from Stafford going to sleep for part of the game and Stafford at least seemed to play responsibly defensively during the game. Ennis is just all over the game and despite some mistakes, nice hustle. Regher was missed with his physicality, especially against Stafford, but it was nice to see Sulzer wasn't out of place and seemed to play more physical as the game went on. The D was not as polished as previous with the pairing shuffled, but still it worked. The Sabres still ran out of gas at times during the 3rd period. Finally, WTF since when does Grags play physical??? Is that Ruff or the frustration of a young player playing on a team struggling early on? Kassian looked about as expected and played well, still wonder about his consistency.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Would love to see Vaneks stats with and without roy as his center. They just never seem to click.
deluca67 Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 A very entertaining game. Certainly not one of Luongo's best. The first two made Luongo look like he never played the position before. Kassian looked good for the time he got. 2 points and 7 hits in just under 11 minutes, the kid did not look out of place. After Leino and Boyes scored I expected Torres and Corkum to step out on the ice and score for the Sabres. The next 17 games will be a dog fight, 5 teams for one playoff spot. As a hockey fan you couldn't ask for more. Woke up very early to a very nice box score. I only got to see the first period, but nice! Speaking of "box scores", why is ESPN's box scores more comprehensive than the NHL's own website?

Agreed, but that is the only thing ESPN does well in it's hockey coverage. I cancelled my cable sports package because of ESPN sucking on hockey. Just have the NHL package online and MSG. I figure the Sabres need to go 13-4 to get into the playoffs. Any thoughts?

Roy was terrible last night, he could get absolutely nothing going and was a turnover machine. What else is new, right? I fully expect MAG to Revert back into his normal marshmallow like consistency today. I really think it was him just getting up for the Sabres rather than any real new facet to his game.
Doohicksie Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I figure the Sabres need to go 13-4 to get into the playoffs. Any thoughts? I'm not counting. Just win, baby.

I don't think 13-4 is needed at this point. The Sabres and Lighting are the only two teams battling for that eight spot that are winning more than they are losing. Buffalo is 6-4 and Tampa is 7-3 in their last ten. I doubt the Lightning will go 13-4 over that time. Unless one of the other teams get hot it may only take 10 wins. If the Sabres go 13-4 they may actually clinch eight early.
Buffalo Wings Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 They can have the two stars. I'll take the two points. This.
papazoid Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Would love to see Vaneks stats with and without roy as his center. They just never seem to click. put Adams between Vanek & Roy
Sabres Fan in NS Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 My, oh my ... Three great games in a row, the last against a true powerhouse. They may actually pull this thing off. Are the storm clouds parting? ... . Not at all. The TSC has always been about giving an honest and realistic opinion on what's going on in regards to Sabres hockey. My post was a reflection on the Sabres current position. We are still talking about a run to eighth place. If they end up in eighth or not, it doesn't change the fact I have zero faith in Regier and Ruff and their ability to bring a Stanley Cup to Buffalo. Which is the only thing that matters, or at least it should be.
Redemption City Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 The real question is - what happens if they lose Winnipeg? Throw in the towel? The mental toughness of this team worries me. They're so bipolar.
North Buffalo Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 The real question is - what happens if they lose Winnipeg? Throw in the towel? The mental toughness of this team worries me. They're so bipolar. Agreed, wish there was some way minus an illegal or Rx substance to combat that issue. Short term, Roy and Stafford I am convince are the problem. Stafford is playing better, but under the radar and Roy was just horrible last night and Pommers and Vanek didn't appear to want to skate with him. Monday's game will be big either way. 4 point potential swing.
