gomper Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Nice back check on a pinching Beauchemin to prevent a rebound chance in the 3rd....heady play
X. Benedict Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 all the power skating i have taken made me cringe at that stride he uses It is not a beautiful stride at all. But he's got great balance and looks like he could easily clean jerk and ###### his own weight overhead on skates. Looks like the filter doesn't equally appreciate Olympic Weightlifting events beginning with S.

nfreeman Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I thought he looked pretty good last night. Good hands and good hockey IQ. He was in on multiple chances and created multiple chances, including a couple of quick passes from behind the net into the slot to his linemates. And for all the bellyaching posted yesterday about moving Ennis to wing, I liked how Hodger and Ennis interacted. Moreover, I thought the top 3 lines all looked pretty dangerous.
LabattBlue Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 FWIW http://blogs.theprov...s-before-trade/ Vigneault spoke with Hodgson the weekend before. Meddling dad is worrisome. Hopefully at some point Cody tells him to back off, and takes charge of his own life.

Hodgson is really strong on the puck low. That extra second Hodgson can hang on is going to lead to a ton of scoring chances. Ennis is a great compliment with his outside speed and puck-handling. Hard to defend. That line looked great.

As one of the guys who "bellyached" about moving Ennis back to wing I'll say that I agree, those two did look good together. But I suspect he and Leino would look good together as well. I'm just a bit concerned for our lack of a 3rd center. I don't think it is a good idea to put Leino in a 3rd line center spot. Still, Hodgson def looked good with Ennis last night. Worth continuing to look at.

Now, it may be disappointing for an expensive UFA to end up centering the #3 line with Kaleta as his winger, but that's a different discussion.

Now, it may be disappointing for an expensive UFA to end up centering the #3 line with Kaleta as his winger, but that's a different discussion. That's certainly part of it. He's an offensive tool that isn't going to be properly utilized on a line primarily tasked with checking. I think Roy has enough talent to get good offensive chances and squeeze points out of Gerbe and Kaleta. I doubt Leino can do that.
rickshaw Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Give Hodgson some time. If he gets a chance to unleash his slapper, look out. It's a rocket. He's very good along the wall. One of those guys where the puck seems to fall onto his stick. He's an excellent passer. Sees the ice very well. He's not Mogilny for speed, but he's quick in short spurts. Jumps on loose change very quickly. He doesn't moan or complain, he just works. He's gonna be a real good pro. This trade is gonna be good for both teams I believe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDnzTTwrLGo

I haven't heard from my friends in Vancouver which is a pretty good sign that they aren't delighted by this move yet. Actually I think in time they will really like Kassian.
rickshaw Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 My take is, the trade could help Vancouver win it all this year. That really is what matters here. But down the road, I can see Hodgson being a better player with more impact on the scoring side of things. Buffalo will have to find some other big boys to fill out their team. The Canucks needed someone like Kassian. He is skilled enough to run along side the Sedins when things get testy and can move up and down the lineup. He should keep other teams honest, more so than Cody would. The Canucks are a far better team than last year's squad and we all saw how close they got.

Last year they were #1 in the NHL in both offense and defense. This year they are #4 and #5 -- still pretty GD strong, but not quite as good as last year. Also, Kesler seems to be coming on, but he isn't having a huge year like he had last year.
LGR4GM Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I said it before but i will say it again, Hodgson's movement and play off the puck was impressive. He always seems to end up in open ice and his head is on a swivel
Derrico Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I thought Cody played alright last night. I had the Ducks feed and it's always different watching on tv (especially at midnight) but he didn't look as good to me as I've read other posters / Paul Hamilton say. Then again, when everyone was hammering Myers for struggles a month or so ago I thought he was playing good hockey. So there's my 2 cents. Besides it was his first game, I'll be interested to see how he does a week from now.

Didn't Kesler miss some time at the start of the year due to injury?
wonderbread Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Didn't Kesler miss some time at the start of the year due to injury? The Canucks site has him listed as playing in 59 games so far so he probably missed a few.

Once his linemates understand the inside/out game they can play with him, that's going to pay dividends. I don't expect a lot of pretty open ice moves....he's just not that kind of skater.
Doohicksie Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I thought Leino-Gerbe-Kaleta looked good though -- do you disagree? I will say Gerbe-Kaleta look great together. Can't really remember too much Leino last night (although in general my opinion of him is improving).

I think he's going to be a good one, but as for last night, I just didn't see that. I saw saw pucks bounce off his stick a couple of times which has been similar to far too many of our current players. The semi-breakaway was what jumped to mind. The two on one where he got the shot off looked labelled for the top corner but it wasn't really a hard shot. He also didn't look that fast out there. I donno, I just really didn't notice him much. I can't wait to watch for him tonight though

Cody will be moving into those soft, vacated areas and pot some goals.

Tyrannustyrannus Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Anyone else notice he looks just like Liev Schreiber? and Liev Schreiber played Sabertooth in Wolverine... and Sabretooth is our mascot... it was meant to be.
hockeyhound Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Well you have to look at some interviews of Kassian where Lindy told him to curb his game into using more of his skill. I think that he was being told to use his skill more then his toughness. If he was in boston, he would be being told to knock everyone's heads off and shoot the puck when you get a chance. IMHO. Kassian lead all Vancouver forwards in hits the other night.
