Has your opinion of Darcy changed?

So what you're saying is you're disappointed we didn't give Vancouver our garbage for him? That makes sense.

No, what he's saying is that he wishes we could have gotten rid of two slackers while we did this rebuild and still picked up a guy like Hodgson somehow.

Right, so exactly what I said.

I prematurely responded negatively earlier when I heard of Gaustad's trade, and thought, "that's it, just one move?" But after learning about the Kassian/Hodgson trade, watching the NHL network, and hearing 2 different NHL analysis discussing the trade for Hodgson, they feel that it was a great move for the Sabres, and a bad move for the Canucks. The NHL analysis said that Hodgson can be a 2nd line center or a 1b center.

I'd say my opinion has gone up on Regier.

SO DOES EVERYONE but guess what other GMs arent stupid

No, you're assuming it all happened in one deal with the Vancouver Canucks. I'm not, and I'm pretty sure neither was GoDD. But whatever. This place is making me mad.

OK Fellas.....here is your top 9 forward list that will be getting 53 minutes of ice time.

Tell me which one of these guys will make Lucic hesitate from going duck-pin bowling with your Vezina winning, silver medal wearing, elite goaltender.......

Pominville, Roy, Stafford, Vanek, Lieno, Boyes, Ennis, Hodgson, Gerbe

I owe Larry Quinn an appology. The guy had everyone pegged......and after watching 5 years of everyone eating it up and coming back for more because of the collective attention span of an 8 year old boy hopped up on candy and soda.....maybe Quinn deserved every penny he got. Maybe he wasn't such a bad guy after all.

I'm sorry Larry. I hope you are enjoying your semi-retirement on the $15 million profit the fans helped you with.

Darcy has pretty much been hitting it out of the park since Pegula gave him his cojones back. The Regehr and Gaustad trades were pretty much Jedi mind trick-caliber deals, and he managed to pluck a very talented center out of the sky on deadline day today.

The Hodgson trade is a shrewd move because finding a playmaking center is so freaking hard. There are very few teams in Vancouver's situation - where there is a potential star C playing limited minutes behind two certified studs. Darcy found the perfect trading partner today and he deserves a lot of credit. Yes, a lot of physicality was lost today, but Darcy now has 4 picks in the first two rounds to go shopping with this summer. And it will be much easier to find a bruiser than a playmaking center.

As for Leino and Boyes - you can't blame Darcy for that. He did his job in acquiring the best guys available at the time. It's not his fault they ended up chumps.

I have 5 posts here saying the Gaustad trade was solid. Once the details became clear, he did a good job.

How are the top six and Lucic running Miller relevant?

Thanks, I just found and listened to it.

A few things I found interesting (and sorry if these were already brought up). First, Darcy said that Nashville wasn't the first team that offered a first round pick for goose. He went on to say that that team eventually withdrew the offer, however. Also that the Nashville deal was on and off going back to midnight last night until it was finally completed. He said that things were very quiet until about 1:30 this afternoon. That had to be a rough situation, knowing that you're an hour and a half away from giving fans a legitimate reason to call for your head. It had to be tough not to take a lesser offer at that point.

The one thing that I was hoping to hear him talk about was how the Kassian-Hodgson trade started. I'm wondering who made the first contact, whether it was Buffalo shopping Kassian or Vancouver looking to deal Hodgson.

Anyone have any info there?

No idea, but it could have started as something not even involving those two. Maybe it started with Gaustad, but they didn't want to give a 1st. Then evolved into Vancouver wanting some grit for the playoffs, Sabres looking for center help, or whatever. It's the kind of thing we'll likely never know for sure, but it would be interesting to talk to GMs and find out how deals actually get done.

I am one of Darcy's harshest critics, but who cares what the top 9 look like for the rest of the season? I can almost guarantee that no matter who the GM is, the top-9 will change in the off-season by 2-3 players.

I think he's saying that just the 'threat' of Kassian on the roster would be enough to make Lucic think twice about taking liberties.

GO SABRES!!!

Well that's a rather unproven conclusion isn't it?

As if Kassian would have been a deterrent. Guys like Lucic, legitimate badasses, aren't afraid. Of anybody. For any reason. They do what they want because they have no fear of retribution. Would a guy like Kassian deter somebody like Marchand from being an idiot? Maybe, maybe not. But Lucic? Unlikely to say the least.

It just gets beyond tiresome how you turn everything into the same exact complaints and conspiracy theories. I still have no idea why you find it so entertaining to come here for no reason other than to agitate people. And let's face it, that's all you're doing here. You were going to say these same exact things regardless of what they did today.

What...my "conspiracy theory" on how Vancouver has no respect for Buffalo's ability to develop or efficiently use power forwards after they got a hold of Pyatt and went "holy s#!t those guys have no clue!"

Ask Webster about the $$ he had to give to the SPCA because I said Bernier would get a big deal.

Then there was Torres

Then Mancari

Now Kassian

It's no longer a conspiracy theory when it has been happening in plain sight for years.

I thought Gleason and Harrington had the right take. Darcy went in needing to get bigger and more physical and came out smaller and softer. Who would have guessed,

A conspiracy of what? The Sabres handing over two players who now hold roster spots on the Coyotes, and another that is still a career AHLer?

I vote Gerbe. :D

But no, it really is funny how darcy makes everybody wait so long, to the point where they doubt any movement, that when he gets rid of a slacking overpaid soft centerman and a pretty highly touted (until today, it appears) prospect and keeps a ton of dead weight everybody wants to canonize him. I'm excited about Hodgson until Lindy gets his clutches on him.

I will ask this again. How much do you want a GM to do at once?

You'd be mad if he didn't make any moves. So he makes a few good moves. Now you're mad he wasn't able to make enough moves.

Talk about a lack of comprehension and respect for the realities of NHL player management.

I keep getting "Wait til the trade deadline 2011"........"Wait til July 1 2011"......"Wait til the trade deadline 2012"......."Wait til July 1 2012"....etc., etc., etc....meanwhile Darcy and Lindy get another extension....and the core feels safe.....and I go sleepy-time.

Meanwhile the philosophy of this group has remained the same....so much so that the Sabres had one of the biggest team failures in recent NHL history.

I understand this is a fun-time. If people didn't make me out to be some boogey-man, maybe some others could actually read what I am saying. Maybe we need a voice chat for me to make my point clear because people seem to think I am satan.

Which is the bigger need? Lack of heart and leaders, or lack of natural centers? Why, after spending $27 million on Lieno should I assume this offseason will be any better?

DeLuca is smart enough to let everyone have their fun today.....it's like watching the Rodney King riots on TV.

I hate it when you disagree with me and decide it's because I don't understand complexities of the game or management. I am pretty sure we could have gotten rid of Derek Roy AND Drew Stafford and called this what alot of us wanted to call it, a real rebuild. Darcy didn't get rid of who I or many other wanted gone, so yeah, it's disappointing. But I'm not mad about getting Hodgson, not at all. I'm mad that you and some others seem to want to tear me and my posts apart when I'm not attacking anyone personally and have refrauined from doing so since I started posting again. THAT does make me mad, yeah.

Hold roster spots on a team in bankruptcy, yet manage to lead their division and are 10-0-1 ???

We're reading what you're saying. But what you're saying is unreasonable. It's as simple as that.

The difference between me and you is that I'm not letting my desire to see players shed from this roster, and heart, soul and talent injected into it, blind me from understanding the realities of how the NHL functions.

We both want the same things. And today the Sabres took another step towards achieving those things. You just refuse to accept that there are other factors in play besides Darcy. And I'm disappointed that you don't. You've made fun of posters who have proposed crazy NHL 11 trades, but you're acting like making every change we want right now is an easy feat.

Talk to me when they're in the Cup Finals. Until then they're nobodies.

That's the beauty of it. Instead of discussing what actually transpired on it's own merits, we can debate the merits of things that didn't happen instead. And it's particularly convenient when you can conflate the two. That leaves room for a whole range of facts that can't ever be refuted.

You're acting like the rest of us don't want Stafford and Roy gone and aren't disappointed that Darcy didn't move them today. We are. But calling this whole thing a bust because it didn't happen is ridiculous. We've got quite a while before the puck drops on the 2012-13 season.
