bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 grags for sulzer from Van
frissonic Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 This day just keeps getting better and better. Not that we're going to win the cup this year, but this is some big trading for a team that isn't going very deep, if at all, in the playoffs. Wednesday cannot get here fast enough.
nrod424 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I really need to start watching some west coast games. whats the deal with sulzer?
LabattBlue Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 The German connection continues. Next on the scroll...Gogulla and Schutz back for 12-13!
frissonic Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 28-29 year old German ... bounced from Nashville, Florida, most recently Vancouver. Played a lot in German some German league. Not sure on numbers. Just regurgitating what I heard on GR.
korab rules Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Straight up swap of failed prospects. We were going to lose MAG to FA anyway. Building the perfect team one blond haired blued eyed piece at a time. Is Pomminstein getting nervous yet?
thesportsbuff Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I don't think this is a separate trade from the Kassian/Hodgson one. Hodgson's value as a young center exceeds Kassian, so MAG for this guy evens out.
LabattBlue Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Sulzer is a UFA at the end of the season. 20 game tryout for a contract for next season? Don't know where he fits with McNabb pounding on the door, Pysyk and Leduc(I think) turning pro next season, and Scheistel and friends already on the farm.

Don't know where he fits with McNabb pounding on the door, Pysyk and Leduc(I think) turning pro next season, and Scheistel and friends already on the farm. He doesn't, for all the names you already mentioned. Sounds like Vancouver didn't want to give up Hodgson for JUST Kassian, so we threw in MAG and they tossed in a 7th D-man.
LTS Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 We, as Sabres fans, should never discount the value of having enough defensive depth in the organization. But he is a UFA.. perhaps he'll like hanging out with Ehrhoff.
Iron Crotch Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 He doesn't, for all the names you already mentioned. Sounds like Vancouver didn't want to give up Hodgson for JUST Kassian, so we threw in MAG and they tossed in a 7th D-man. MAG played for Vigneault in juniors supposedly. IMHO, this is linked to the Kassian trade (i.e. we gave up two prospects for one better prospect) and make sense in terms of freeing up space for guys like McNabb, Pysyk, and others. I kind of liked Sulzer in Nashville, although he won't do much to make you notice him.

It looks to me like that was a throw in to even up the value on the Kassian for Hodgson. He's a career AHL'er who is no longer in prospect phase. Looks like it was a 'throw me an expiring contract' type move in the scheme of things.

Eleven Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 From some Vancouver fans' perspectives, Grags was the key to the deal! http://www.canuckscorner.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9157
fiftyone Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I could see Gragnani being a good player for the Canucks. However, I'm more than willing to take a loss on the defenseman swap in order to make the Hogdson/Kassian deal work.
LabattBlue Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 From some Vancouver fans' perspectives, Grags was the key to the deal! http://www.canucksco....php?f=2&t=9157 They can believe whatever they want. Fact is that on a team that has been in a free fall for two months, Gragnani is a guy who after a 1/2 season trial, hasn't been able to sniff the ice. I guess they are wowed by his +/- and his fantastic passing skills.
obstructedorangeseats Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 From some Vancouver fans' perspectives, Grags was the key to the deal! http://www.canucksco....php?f=2&t=9157 That is a good read. From the way they're reading the trade, you'd think Gragnani was our top defensive prospect and has been eating ice time. If their GM is anything like their fans, I'm not entirely surprised that Darcy pulled this deal off.
Samson's Flow Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I would have preferred a 6th round pick or something. Without looking at it could it have been that VAN was at the roster/contract limit much like we were so they needed to lose a player in order to get Grags? A 6 would be better but may not have done it in terms of roster #'s
